00:00President Donald Trump is threatening a 50% tax on all imports from the European Union,
00:05as well as a 25% tariff on Apple products, unless iPhones are made in America.
00:11Trump says he wants to charge higher import taxes on goods from the EU,
00:15a long-standing U.S. ally, than from China,
00:18a geopolitical rival that had its tariffs cut to 30% this month,
00:22so Washington and Beijing could hold negotiations.
00:25Trump was upset by the lack of progress in trade talks with the EU,
00:29which has insisted on cutting tariffs to zero,
00:31even as the president has publicly insisted on preserving a baseline 10% tax on most imports.
00:38In response to Trump's tariffs on China,
00:40Apple CEO Tim Cook said earlier this month that most iPhones sold in the U.S.
00:45during the current fiscal quarter would come from India,
00:48with iPads and other devices being imported from Vietnam.
00:52Apple now joins Amazon, Walmart, and other major U.S. companies in the White House's crosshairs
00:57as they try to respond to the uncertainty and inflammatory pressures unleashed by his tariffs.
