Join me on an evening walk to Chelsea Park through Sheffield's beautiful Nether Edge and Brincliffe districts. My favourite thing to do on an evening at this time of year is long walks to Sheffield's many gorgeous green spaces. Chelsea Park is my new favourite obsession and one of the city's truest hidden gems.

00:00Evening Sheffield, it's Alistair from the Sheffield Star and this is very informal. I wonder if you'd
00:04like to come with me on a short walk through beautiful Nether Edge. I don't know about you
00:09but my favourite thing to do these days in the spring and summer in Sheffield is take walks
00:13through Bryncliffe and Nether Edge, an absolutely stunning neighbourhood. I love the way the sun
00:18plays on the trees, there's absolutely beautiful buildings everywhere you go and I've recently
00:22found what could be my new favourite park in the city. I wonder if you'd like to come with
00:26me on a walk through this absolutely stunning neighbourhood. It's an absolute treat that
00:29Sheffield has that is just open for everyone to look around and take in for themselves
00:34and I do this as often as I can. I'd like you to join with me so we're going to go for a quick walk. Come with me.
00:56It doesn't really get any better than this to be honest in my opinion. It'd be rude to focus on
01:06any one house in particular but you can't beat just walking around this area and looking at all
01:10the really historic houses you have in these parts. It's like they were all built by Sheffield
01:15industrialists of a previous year who were all competing to outdo one another architecturally.
01:19You could stop and examine any one of them. I wish I knew more of the history but
01:24every building in this neighbourhood is just absolutely stunning. I just love getting lost in it.
01:3220 mile per hour zone by the way. You know I wish I knew more about flowers. So one thing about
01:36walking around Nether Edge is you find lots of lots of like gardens in bloom. All sorts of things that
01:41are out in the spring. I like to stop and smell them. A bit like a giraffe I suppose. It's a bit silly
01:46I suppose when you see it but I wish I knew more about them. I normally take pictures of them and send them to
01:50my mum because she knows everything about flowers and she's able to identify them but
01:54that it's just overpowering. Like you can smell them wherever you go.
02:10I mean love Sheffield for its trees. Come near the edge it's where all the trees are.
02:15Just gorgeous. Oh wow look at that. Cool.
02:24Well uh it is Sheffield and we don't shy away from a tall hill or a steep hill in Sheffield but
02:29about halfway up Lindhurst Road it's really going to start burning so be prepared for that.
02:35There's just some kind of bird I've been listening to that I don't think I've ever heard before.
02:39Kind of a common thing in old nether edge for me. I don't know my bird calls very well. Whenever I
02:46take my headphones off and go for a walk around here you end up hearing something I've never really
02:49heard before. So add that to the list. I need to know more about plants, flowers, trees and birds.
02:57I know quite a bit about mushrooms so it's you know not not entirely useless.
03:08Oh god.
03:11Uh huh.
03:27I think that's the college. Yeah that's Sheffield College down there.
03:39Wow. All right we're right there people. So we're at the top of Quarry Lane which is amazing for
03:45several reasons. First of all you find yourself with just the most amazing view. I don't know if
03:53this is Brinkley, if I need to look at my maps a bit more. I need to research more about this whole area.
04:06Just the right time of day as well.
04:23And like I just said I thought this was someone's private drive when I first came here so when I saw
04:36all this I really started to think I'd maybe come the wrong way I need to turn back around and come back
04:53up again but no. Step through here and you find yourself in Chelsea Park.
05:06Ah.
05:07Ah.
05:19Ah.
05:21Ah.
05:27Ah.
05:29Ah.
05:31Ah.
05:32Ah.
05:33It's just the most stupendous place. I thought I visited nearly every park in Sheffield and
05:41then I'd just find another one that just blows my socks off. It's just so serene and quiet
05:47and deep and peace and private and it's just so lush. It's everything I love about Sheffield,
05:52all in one spot. But then it just keeps getting better because, I mean, there's Chelsea Park
05:58like I say, and you can step out onto the top of the road here, which with a quick look across the
06:03road, and then you immediately find yourself in Brinkliffe Edge Woods instead. And that's its
06:09own tree. It's amazing here. I mean, what other city do you have where you can just step from one park
06:17into the other, cross the road, and find yourself on like a really deep, thick, luscious wood just
06:22like this one. Where else do you get this? This is amazing.
06:29Right, we're going to finish this off by going to my favourite bench of the year so far.
06:54You know what? We're just in time for sunset as well.
07:24Not sponsored, but my favourite thing after a long walk is a can of Chocomel, which is
07:40chocolate milk. It's just wonderful.
07:41So, yeah, thank you for joining me. I don't know why I made this video. I've just been
07:53going for lots of walks around NetherEdge and Brinkliffe lately. It is my favourite thing
07:57to do. It's like the only thing more unique than the houses are the trees. The only thing
08:05more unique and gorgeous than the houses are the trees themselves. You know what I'm saying?
08:09It's fun and it's free and if you just take your headphones off and enjoy it, you can just
08:15hear the birds chirp and watch the sunset and get a good workout in because it's pretty tough
08:19on your legs. Come on down to Chelsea Park, come on down to Brinkliffe, come on down to
08:24NetherEdge. It's just stunning and it's everything I love about Sheffield all in one rather cushy
08:31neighbourhood.
