00:00Case between the federal government of Nigeria and the detained leader of the indigenous
00:04people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu apparently took a new technical twist on Thursday after one
00:10of the lawyers of the detained Biafra leader, Paul Erekoro, San, presented and played three
00:16videos which the federal high court sitting in Abuja later admitted in evidence, the videos
00:22of former Nigeria chief of army staff, retired general Theophilus Danjuma, saying, security
00:28operatives in the West Africa country specifically the armed forces are working together with
00:34the armed bandits to kill Nigerians, stressing that, if Nigerians depend on the armed forces
00:40to curb insecurity, they will all die one by one, also that of governor Hope Muzodunma
00:45of Imho state saying politicians are behind killings in the state, lastly and the most
00:51interesting video played at the court to counter the testimony or statement made by the DSS
00:56prosecutor witness over Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB founding eastern security network, ESN allegedly
01:03created by group of youths in the southeastern geopolitical zone of Nigeria often referred
01:09to as Biafra land to fight in self-defense against Fulani armed bandits or terrorists
01:14that were advancing and killing people in the eastern states during the era of president
01:19Mohamedu Buhari, was that of the director general of the department of state services,
01:25the DSS, Adeola Ajayi, who is apparently the government chief complainer in the case,
01:31and the DSSDG in the video recorded and published by symphony news media in February 2025, narrated
01:38how youths of Azare community in Katagum local government area and Tafawa Balewa community
01:44of Tafawa Balewa local government area in Bauchi state, when the DSSDG was the state
01:50director of state security services, SS, resorted to self-help and killed all Boko
01:56Haram terrorists that came to attack them without depending on the security operatives,
02:01according to the DSSDG, when Boko Haram terrorists invaded Azare community, they started shooting
02:07and killing people, then, the youths went after the Boko Haram terrorists and killed
02:13all of them even when one of the Boko Haram terrorists named Khalid climbed a tree and
02:18started firing gunshots from the tree towards the people who were on the lower ground, the
02:23Azare people resisted and went after him and subsequently killed him.
02:28Although the federal government prosecution witness identified as BBB who is a DSS operative
02:34stated that the ESN is an illegal organization because there is no approval of government
02:39given to the people of southeast to establish such a self-help group to defend their land
02:44against terrorists unlike a MoTeC and security network in the southwest states that was
02:49approved and permitted by the government, also claiming, his boss, the DSSDG in the
02:55video was asking communities to build the first line of defense by thus working with
03:00security operatives, but, a careful and detailed study of the DSSDG speech in the video shows
03:07that the FG witness, BBB probably talked off points, totally off key from the original
03:13intent and intention of Mr. Adeola Ajay, the DSSDG teachings and advice in the video,
03:20who had said the Azare community people acted in quick response to an emergency situation,
03:26and the storyline indicated that the people of Azare prepared themselves in advance likely
03:31purchasing and acquiring firearms equivalent to AK-47 rifles to be able to face and kill
03:37all the Boko Haram terrorists that invaded the community as narrated by the DSSDG, and
03:43if true, the DSSDG, the chief complainer must also be ordered to appear before the
03:48court as a defender in the case to present a certified true copy of government approval
03:53given to Azare people to defend themselves, or prove beyond reasonable doubts how the
03:58people of Azare community were able to kill, merely with the bare hands all the Boko Haram
04:04terrorists that invaded their community with high precision weapons of mass destructions,
04:10In addition, the DSSDG in the video probably advocated for the need for all individuals
04:15in Nigeria to have a gun, because, he gave an example of a visit to the United States
04:21of America, USA, when his host in the US heard a police siren sound, he quickly brought out
04:27his gun and said, if the criminal chased after by the US police ran into his apartment, he
04:33would use the gun to kill the criminal suspect, and the not all, the DSSDG in the video also
04:39recalled and referenced the words of Nigeria former head of state, retired general Ibrahim
04:45Bademasi Babengida that if insecurity must end in Nigeria, Nigerians must be ready to
04:51resort to self-help like the people of Azare community did, details of the court proceedings
04:57on Thursday as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN and republished by Vanguard
05:03Newspaper are presented verbatim below. Justice James Omotosho admitted the flash drive containing
05:09the three separate video recordings as Exhibit PWP and a certificate of compliance as Exhibit
05:15PWP1 in the ongoing terrorism trial of Kanu, the leader of the prescribed indigenous people
05:21of Biafra, IPOB. The documents were admitted in evidence after Paul Ericoro, SAN, counsel
05:29for Kanu, tended them from the bar and were not opposed by the federal government's lawyer,
05:34Adigbo Egberawomolo, SAN. The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the three video
05:40recordings were played in the open court and the FG's witness, an operative of the DSS,
05:46identified as BBB, was cross-examined by Ericoro. Earlier, the lawyer reminded the witness that
05:53during the cross-examination the previous day, reference was made to remarks by Danjuma
05:59and the DSS DG and he responded in affirmative. Do you know your DG and if you see him, will
06:05you recognize him, Ericoro asked. Yes, I will my lord, BBB responded, and the lawyer sought
06:13the leave of the court for the video to be played. In one of the videos, the DSS DG was
06:19addressing a gathering of people where he suggested that communities should endeavor
06:23to create a first line of defense against bandits and other invaders. In the video,
06:29Haje cited examples of two communities, Hazare and Tafawabalewa in Bauchi state, that were
06:35able to kill and dislodge Boko Haram insurgents through collective effort when he was serving
06:40as state director. The DG said it was practically impossible for security agencies to protect
06:46every society in the country. The DSS boss was heard say, the practical approach to mobilizing
06:53people is to get everyone involved. It is impossible for the security agencies to deploy
06:59to every part of the country. What we need to do is to make communities set up first
07:04line of defense. We have to allow some levels of armament for the communities to rise and
07:10defend themselves first, but under the guidance and approval of security agencies. The time
07:16to start it is now, when asked by Erokoro whether the DG DSS was not asking for communities
07:22to defend themselves, the witness emphasized that the DG stressed that such communities
07:27must come for guidance and approval from security agencies. In another video, former defense
07:34minister, General Danjuma, was shown making a remark in an event. Danjuma was heard, in
07:41the video, saying members of the armed forces were not neutral in the ongoing killings across
07:46the country. The ex-general said in the video, the peace in this state is under threat. There
07:52is an attempt for ethnic cleansing in this state and all the riverine states of Nigeria.
07:58We must resist it, we must rise up, the armed forces are not neutral, they collude with
08:03armed bandits that killed Nigerians, they facilitate their movement. They cover them,
08:09if you are depending, on the armed forces to protect you, you will all die one by one.
08:16When asked by Erokoro who the speaker in the video was, the witness confirmed that
08:20he was Danjuma. Erokoro then asked the witness if he heard Danjuma calling on people to defend
08:26themselves and that the security agencies were not neutral and BBB responded in affirmative.
08:32BBB, however, rejected Erokoro's request to give his, BBB's, opinion on the implication
08:39of what Danjuma said. I am not here to interpret his statement, the maker of the video should
08:45be the one to interpret it himself, he said. When the lawyer asked him if he was aware
08:51DSS arrested Danjuma for making the statement, the witness said, I am not aware my organization
08:57arrested him. The third video showed Governor Uzoduma complaining about the killings of
09:03some All Progressives Congress, APC, S leaders in his state and blamed it on the politicians.
09:10The governor said in the video, wicked politicians are sponsoring the killings in Orlu. The U.S.
09:16The APC leaders were killed but not one PDP leader has been killed or attacked for once.
09:22I think Theocarp is now full and killings of innocent people must stop in Imho. Uzoduma,
09:28who said it occurred to him that the alleged killers were after APC members, said government
09:33would come hard on them if they failed to refrain from such act. When asked who the
09:38speaker was, the witness said it was Governor Uzoduma. Erokoro then asked BBB whether Uzoduma
09:45s position did not contradict his claim in court that IPOB members were behind killings
09:51in Orlu in Imho. Responding, the witness said DSS position was informed by the outcome of
09:58their investigation. BBB further said that, while Uzoduma failed to mention names of victims
10:04of the killings he referred to, the DSS, investigation was specific on the identity of those killed
10:11by suspected IPOB members, who were enforcing the sit-at-home order directed by Kano. Our
10:17investigation revealed those who were killed by suspected IPOB members and we mentioned
10:23the names, but the governor did not mention any name of people he said were killed, the
10:28witness said. BBB, who was the second prosecution witness, PW2, was also cross-examined by Ekororo
10:36based on his earlier testimony. When asked about the IPOB status, the witness said he
10:42was aware that IPOB had been prescribed by an order of court and that Kano had been a
10:47member of IPOB before and after its proscription. On whether he knew what the NSS protest was
10:54about, the witness said it was about the call by some people for the police's special anti-robbery
10:59squad, SARS, to be scrapped. The witness also said he was aware that some states, including
11:06Lagos and the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, constituted commissions of inquiry
11:12to probe the NSS protest and other related incidents. When he was asked to read the heading
11:17of the report of the panel, the witness said, Lagos state panel of judicial angry on restitution
11:23of victims of NSS protest and other matters. The witness agreed with Ekororo that the report
11:29from the commission set up by Lagos state did not indicate IPOB and that it did not
11:34classify the protest as act of terrorism. Ekororo tended the report issued by the Lagos's
11:41commission of inquiry, which the court admitted in evidence as Exhibit PWO after it was not
11:47opposed by FG's lawyer, Chief Adigbo Egberawomolo. When he was asked if Kano's international
11:53passport had ever been in DSS custody, the witness said he had never seen the passport
11:59before. When asked if he was aware Kano had travelled to different countries before, BBB
12:05said the IPOB leader told him he had travelled to many countries. He said though he did not
12:11know if the name, Biafra, had been prescribed, BBB said he was aware that IPOB had been prescribed.
12:19The witness, who admitted, that the AGF letter was tended through him in court, said he was
12:25aware of all the allegations against Kano mentioned by the AGF in the letter. The witness
12:31disagreed with Ekororo that the letter did not serve any useful purpose. He said he did
12:36not know if Kano had been in detention for the past five years. When asked if he had
12:42the report of the investigation on Kano, BBB responded in affirmative. He, however, said
12:49that the report was not with him in court because the report belongs to the government.
12:54The witness said his involvement in Kano's matter was only the taking of his statement
12:59on the video. When asked if there were any other persons as defendants in the charge
13:04against Kano, BBB said it was only Kano he saw as sole defendant.
13:09Ekororo put the question to BBB that in the earlier video he watched, there was no one
13:15bearing arms as members of ESN. Responding, the witness said, in the video we watched,
13:21I cannot say they carry arms or they did not carry arms. The witness further explained
13:27that the people might be carrying arms underneath them. While responding to question during
13:32re-examination by FG's lawyer, Chief Adiboyegburowomolo, San, on whether the Eastern Security Network
13:40ESN, set up by Kano and a Motecan established by Southwest states had the same features
13:47in their formation, the witness said ESN was an illegal group unlike the Emotecan.
13:53The witness said Emotecan was backed by laws passed by the various houses of assembly of
13:58the six Southwest states while ESN had no law supporting its existence. ESN and Emotecan
14:05are not the same, I know that states in the Southwest passed laws to legalize Emotecan.
14:11But, ESN is not registered, ESN is illegal, Emotecan is recognized by law, the witness
14:19said. Justice Omotosho, then discharged BBB from the witness box. The judge, before adjourning
14:26for the day, gave the prosecution six days within which to call all its witnesses and
14:31conclude its case. He said this would, however, depend on how fast the defense to conduct
14:38their cross-examination. Justice Omotosho also indicated that the defense would be allocated
14:44nine days. He reminded parties that accelerated hearing had been granted in the case so that
14:50the trial could be concluded within reasonable time in the interest of justice. The judge,
14:56following an agreement by lawyers to parties, adjourned until May 28 and May 29, June 6,
15:03June 16, June 18 and June 19 for the prosecution to conduct its case. We have reported that
15:10unknown witness brought by the federal government of Nigeria to federal high court sitting in
15:15Abuja on Tuesday over the case involving Biafra Republic agitator, Nnamdi Kanu has testified
15:21before the court that the indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB leader was the founder of
15:27the Eastern Security Network, ESN, an IPOB-acclaimed vigilante security network established to
15:34fight against terrorists that were advancing from northern part of Nigeria and building
15:39camps in some parts of southeast states, although, the unknown witness who was fully masked and
15:44personal details kept secret, introduced himself as a personnel of the Department of State
15:50Services, DSS who was among the detectives that interrogated the detained IPOB leader,
15:57but the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu in a swift reaction said the witness is unknown, denying
16:03ever meeting such a person, the defense lawyer raised a point of observation during cross-examination
16:09that the issue raised by the unknown witness has been deliberated and struck out by the
16:13previous judge. We have reported that one of the witnesses called by the federal government
16:19of Nigeria to testify against the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB,
16:25Nnamdi Kanu, over the alleged act of terrorism, secretly gave his testimony on Tuesday before
16:31the federal high court sitting in Abuja, with the coordinating lawyer to Nnamdi Kanu, Barrister
16:38Aloy Eji Makor, saying, the FG witness was only identified merely by initials and the
16:44person gave his testimony against Nnamdi Kanu behind the screen, following the application
16:50filed by the federal government lawyers as approved by the trial judge to keep the identities
16:55of the FG witnesses secret, this, Aloy Eji Makor tweeted while the court proceeding was
17:01ongoing, that, the federal government only has three senior advocates of Nigeria, San,
17:07that, six San have stood firmly behind the detained Biafra leader. We have reported that
17:13Justice James Omotosho, the new judge that took over the case of the detained Biafra
17:18agitation leader, Nnamdi Kanu has accepted the apology tended by Nnamdi Kanu through
17:24one of his lawyers, Barrister Kanu Agabi, a cross river state born former senator in
17:29the Nigeria National Assembly and two time attorney general of the federation and minister
17:34of justice under the then president Elusagun Obasanjo, over the detained Biafra leaders
17:40outburst or manner he protested sequel to his rejection of the former judge, Justice
17:45Bintanyako, when the case started afresh on Friday with the new judge which Nnamdi Kanu
17:50pleaded not guilty to the seven counts terrorism charges filed against him by the federal government.
17:57We have reported that the detained Biafra republic agitation leader, Nnamdi Kanu has
18:02not been released by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN Justice Kadirakakarekan, Nigeria
18:09National Judicial Council, NJC says in reaction to viral rumors that the indigenous people
18:14of Biafra, IPOB leader has been set free by the CJN on the ground that Nigeria courts
18:21under her leadership have no jurisdiction over the freedom fighters case due to the
18:25way and manner he was forcefully extradited from Kenya to Nigeria in 2021.
18:32We have reported that the detained leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB,
18:37Nnamdi Kanu on Valentine's Day send a message to the lovers, supporters of the Biafra republic
18:43agitation and the general public that he would remain in detention until impartial and unbiased
18:48judge take over the case of alleged terrorism filed against him by the federal government
18:53of Nigeria, narrating how the judiciary has been biased against him since years of his
18:58detention.
19:00We have reported that Justice Bintanyako of Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned
19:04indefinitely after the detained leader of indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi
19:10Kanu as seen in a privileged video footage during February 10, 2025 court session, staged
19:17a resistance protest, insisting while confronting the judge face to face including the prosecuting
19:23council, added Boyegberawomolo that Justice Binta who is an indigene of Katsina state,
19:29same state with former president Mohamedou Buhari is biased, saying, Justice Nyarko who
19:35had held the political position of Katsina state attorney general and commissioner of
19:40justice that her court is not a court of law but a shrine of injustice, accusing the judge
19:45of pope nosing with authorities to pass wrong judgment against him in order to be left off
19:50the hook by the federal government, her son, Abdul Aziz Nyarko and her husband, retired
19:56vice admiral Matalan Nyarko who was once chief of naval staff, deputy chief of defense
20:02staff, pioneer former military governor of Niger state, two times governor of Adomawo
20:07state who were impeached twice by Adomawo state house of assembly for misconduct, one
20:13of the soldiers that fought against Biafra during Nigeria civil war, a current member
20:18of the ruling all progressives congress, APC who is facing corruption charges alongside
20:24his son in a criminal allegation filed before court of law since 2015 by the economic and
20:31financial crimes commission, EFCC over alleged cases of abuse of office, criminal conspiracy,
20:37theft and money laundering, we had October, 2024 reported that the chief judge of federal
20:44high court in Nigeria, justice John Tehemba Soho has rejected the verbal plea by the detained
20:50indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu for the trial judge in the case,
20:57justice Binta Nyarko to withdraw being the judge over the lawsuits, justice Soho stated
21:03that Kanu's case was reassigned to justice Nyarko due to its prolonged nature, dating
21:08back to 2015, given that justice Nyarko had handled the case for the most part, she was
21:14deemed the most suitable judge to see it through to its conclusion, however, the chief judge
21:20directed that if at the next hearing of the case, Kanu still insists on recusing justice
21:25Nyarko, he must file a written motion with the judge, stating all the grounds for requesting
21:30the recusal.
21:31We had reported in September 2024 that justice Binta Nyarko of federal high court sitting
21:37in Abuja have withdrawn from the case of detained Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu after the trial
21:43could assume the Biafra leader's personal confrontation with Jumtahi, we had reported
21:47in May 2024 that, in a rare case in the history of legal proceedings in the world, Nnamdi
21:53Kanu, the detained leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB held himself at the
21:59federal high court sitting in Abuja and played the role of a lawyer with full energy and
22:04vibrant command of words with fearless loud voice defended himself with face to face confrontation
22:10with the trial judge, justice Binta Nyarko and the federal government prosecution council,
22:15Adigbo Egber Awomolo.
22:18Kanu is being prosecuted by the federal government on a seven count ordering on terrorism.
24:15The people of Bogoro and some part of Tafabalewa, where the Sayawas are, rose up on one occasion
26:15it is impossible for us to deploy to every community in the country.
26:21It is unimaginable that any security agency has the resources to do it.
26:29So as we live here, we all belong to one community or the other.
26:35What we have to start experimenting is how we can make the community to appear first
26:46if the first line of defense works.
26:48The general will have said it clearly, and for me, there are three takeaways from his
26:53lecture.
26:54By the way, the general and I were guest speakers at one program in our office, so I'm not surprised
27:02that he said dexterity.
27:03He has developed some sort of expertise.
27:07But three things for me, he asked us a question, what is our own culture?
27:16Our culture is communal.
27:19We do things together, festival together, ceremonies together, wedding ceremony, whatever.
27:28So why can't we fight some miscreants, some shalatas among us together?
27:39The community should say, you cannot come here.
27:43This is what Tafabalewa has done.
27:45If you go to that community to attack them, you'll be sorry for yourself.
27:50I challenge anybody to try it.
27:53And this is the way we have to do.
27:56We have to allow some level of armament for the communities, and they can serve as the
28:01first line of defense.
28:05Second takeaway from what the general said, whole society approach is not the first time
28:13we are hearing.
28:14But what I'm saying, the way to do it is when we live here, those of us who have some influence,
28:23the elites in society, discuss with your communities, come to us, get some sort of
28:29approval and guidance, and then we can stop these criminals.
28:35You can imagine, you call sector, let's say sector four or whatever, sector of the army,
28:42to come to this community if there is an attack.
28:46Before they even arrive there, if they attack another community, what happens?
28:51This is what we should take away from here.
28:56And lastly, he said something very instructive.
29:02By the way, I like this man.
29:08He knows who to give time.
29:12Have you seen him around here?
29:18He has advised himself.
29:24So don't run into trouble like the CDS.
29:27Okay, so last thing he said to us, which is quite important, is that we should not make
29:35this another talk show.
29:40And that's why this is my intervention.
29:43That security starts from you.
29:47There's nothing that is new.
29:4818-whatever, 1870s, I can't remember, the French Revolution, in the streets of Paris,
29:54they were beheading people.
29:56We've had hijack of plane, we'll forget quickly.
30:01We've had the World Tier Syndrome, we've had so many, there's so many, there will always
30:08be security problems.
30:10So when I hear people say this is security in Nigeria, as long as human beings exist,
30:15there will be security problems.
30:17The issue is the response.
30:20We have to take that mentality away.
30:22What is the security agencies doing?
30:25What are, who, apart from a tree, knows that they want to come and cut him and remain standing?
30:34Only a tree.
30:36We have to get the communities to rise and defend themselves first.
30:42And the time to start it is now.
30:45When you move out from here, I do that every day.
30:49I come from a village in Igbo land, Igbo state, and I talk to my people.
30:56I know the level of armament they are entitled to.
30:58I know how they organize themselves in quarters, we have four quarters.
31:02I am using my expertise to guide them.
