Sydney’s north shore and T8 rail lines affected by water on tracks

A number of roads and rail lines are closed across metropolitan Sydney due to flooding. Meanwhile authorities say a spill at Sydney's Warragamba Dam is now less likely, after overnight rain over the catchment came in below the higher forecasts.

00:00Well, after some really intense rainfall overnight across Sydney, particularly in the city's

00:07western suburbs, the weather is beginning to ease, but Sydneysiders are still being

00:12urged to be on alert and to be careful in the wild weather that we're experiencing

00:18across the city today.

00:20That includes taking all precautions on the road, slowing down, putting your lights on,

00:25but also just keeping on top of any emergency alerts, particularly for people that live

00:31along the city's catchments.

00:33Now, there could be some minor to moderate flooding just along those major rivers across

00:40the city, along low-lying roads and bridges, so Sydneysiders are being urged not to drive

00:46through floodwaters.

00:48Now, Warragamba Dam is at 96% capacity at the moment, but Premier Chris Minns has told ABC

00:55Radio this morning that residents along the Hawkesbury shouldn't be concerned about major

01:00flooding or evacuations, but not to rule it out.

01:03This is a weather situation, so things can change fairly rapidly.

01:09There has been some disruptions to the rail line, which I'm sure is not pleasant news

01:14to Sydneysiders.

01:15This week on the T1 North shoreline, there's some flooding on the track between Central and

01:20Town Hall, so services are delayed there.

01:22Commuters are being urged to use the metro if they do use that line.

01:27There's also some flooding on the T8 airport and south line, some flooding between Torella

01:34and Reesby, and there's some limited replacement buses there.

01:39But commuters are just being urged to stay off the rail network, make alternative plans,

01:44waterways, or stay inside out of this wild weather.
