00:05:24I want to thank God for giving me another opportunity to come out here and podcast doing
00:05:29a thing.
00:05:30I love connecting, speaking, talking, teaching, working with so many different people all
00:05:37over the globe.
00:05:39And I want to say thank you so much.

00:05:42Please subscribe.
00:05:43Thank you so much.
00:05:44I see you all coming in.
00:05:45Thank you so much.
00:05:46I want to say thank you so much.
00:05:48Let's just keep this energy going, keep this energy flowing.
00:05:51And we hear this five restoration track 18 late start heavy load.
00:05:57We're going to get into this.
00:06:00It is the 22nd.
00:06:01I also want to make sure I put that stamp out there because there's so many different
00:06:06shows and we need to stay on track here.
00:06:08So it's the 22nd of May.
00:06:10Thank you all for coming on in.
00:06:12And I want to give a very special thank you to Facebook family.
00:06:16Thank you as well.
00:06:18Thank you all for liking and watching.
00:06:21Y'all definitely did it last night.
00:06:24So let's get into what we spoke about last night on reading between the lines.
00:06:30It was a it was an interesting show.
00:06:33We had a little fun last night.
00:06:35I sipped on some sangria, sangria grande, and it was 11.5%.
00:06:41So I only poured one glass and I definitely was feeling it.
00:06:45But the synopsis of yesterday's show was just.
00:06:50It was out there.
00:06:52We helped Lionel Mariah.
00:06:55There were from Kansas City, Missouri.
00:06:58And they had a big spending problem over $75,000 worth of debt.
00:07:05And they are not really intimate anymore was a lot of a lot of dynamics going on within
00:07:11their situation.
00:07:12Both had great jobs, but they have a spending problem.
00:07:15Myself and Birdman 313, we dissected that scenario the best way we possibly could to
00:07:21be able to give our insight on that as well.
00:07:24So if you want to find out about what happened with Lionel and Mariah with their $75,000
00:07:30worth of debt, barely speaking, they got mortgages, cars, all types of stuff.
00:07:36And the only thing that they knew how to do was wind down like we did on wind down Wednesday.
00:07:41They basically drink at night.
00:07:42So you want to find out about that scenario and that show.
00:07:47Watch that replay from yesterday and special thank you to Birdman 313 for jumping in and
00:07:53helping me dissect that scenario that we had last night.
00:07:59Now we are here tonight and we're going to do it again like we do each and every night.
00:08:03So stick around because we are speaking about late start heavy load.
00:08:08So you want to find out what that's about.
00:08:10Stick around as we get to dissect that.
00:08:12And I have my special guest, Ms. SOS coming in tonight to help me out with that.
00:08:17But we're going to get into this here.
00:08:19Song of the Day, I'm a Hustler, the remix by Cassidy featuring Mary J. Blige.
00:08:26You know, that's my girl that was released in 2005 off of his album, I'm a Hustler.
00:08:31Now I'm not going to turn this into a talk about Mary, but I definitely want to say that
00:08:36my girl did her thing at that Knicks game.
00:08:41I saw it.
00:08:42I don't know if anybody saw it, if you're a Mary fan, but definitely doing her thing.
00:08:47Keep doing it.
00:08:49Keep the fans happy and keep us going because we love to see Mary doing her thing.
00:08:54So this Song of the Day, I'm a Hustler, we're speaking about Cassidy here.
00:08:59This is his record and I'm going to say I love this song.
00:09:04You know why I love it because Mary's on it, but I just love the theme of it.
00:09:09I love the inspiration behind it.
00:09:11I love how it's a gift to the single parent mothers out there, but I'm going to change
00:09:18it to the single parents in general because I know that there's fathers out there who
00:09:24hustle and do what they have to do to make it work for their children as well.
00:09:28And sometimes the fathers don't get, I'm not going to say respect, but it's just something
00:09:35missing sometimes.
00:09:36I know that the mothers are very important because it starts with the mother and without
00:09:40the mother, you know, without women, we obviously wouldn't be here.
00:09:44But the same aspect without men, we wouldn't be here as well either.
00:09:47So I'm speaking about the fathers who are out there actually doing the right thing,
00:09:51being a part of their children's lives.
00:09:53And for the mothers out there who encourage that, that's a lot to be said about that.
00:09:58I know that you two may not be together.
00:10:01It didn't work out, can't work out, not in this space, not on another timeline.
00:10:06It just, we already know what it is.
00:10:09But when you encourage the relationship between your children and their father, because you
00:10:16know that that relationship is important and as long as the father is showing up and doing
00:10:23the right thing, that's amazing.
00:10:27Not a lot of women can do that.
00:10:29Not a lot of women do that.
00:10:31So shout out to all of the single parents out there.
00:10:35You are the true superheroes.
00:10:37I'm talking about the ones that just sacrifice so much just to make sure that their children
00:10:42have a better life than they had.
00:10:44I never wanted my children to experience a divided household and be raised by, you know,
00:10:50two different households.
00:10:52But unfortunately I wasn't able to break that generational curse in enough time.
00:10:59And that came to how I interacted with my relationships, how I conducted myself in relationships
00:11:07in general.
00:11:08I wasn't able to break that in time enough for my children to experience, you know, a
00:11:15solid household.
00:11:18And you know, more is caught than more is taught.
00:11:21I say that a thousand times, more is caught than more is taught.
00:11:24Your children are going to pick up a heck of a lot more than what you think just by
00:11:27watching you.
00:11:28You don't have to sit there and tell them, like for my children, I don't have to tell
00:11:32them how to cuss somebody out because they learn from the best.
00:11:36I'm sure that their vocabulary when it comes to letting somebody have it, it is on point
00:11:41to the T. Now, am I proud about that?
00:11:44Absolutely not.
00:11:45But at least I know that they won't have a problem when it comes to that.
00:11:49But not that we want to, you know, condone that, but more is caught than more is taught.
00:11:55So having said that, I'm thankful that, you know, maybe I didn't, you know, attack the
00:12:03first aspect when it comes to having a solid household, but through my journey, through
00:12:10the trials, through the issues that I've been through, I have been able to break many generational
00:12:15cycles when it comes to spirituality, when it comes to mental health, when it comes to
00:12:22physical and financial wellbeing.
00:12:26Because a lot of those things and a lot of households, we don't speak about it enough.
00:12:33And that's why I'm here to continue to show up each and every night, not just for my legacy,
00:12:39but to help inspire and teach and develop others and to help cultivate this wonderful
00:12:45situation that we have going on here today.
00:12:49So for those of you out there who may be experiencing some of the same issues that
00:12:56I speak about here on the 411 Podcast, I've been there too.
00:13:02That's the reason why I'm here.
00:13:05Don't give up, keep hustling, keep grinding and keep doing whatever you need to do to
00:13:10stay afloat in this game, which we call life.
00:13:14And I'm going to give you some of the lyrics from this because I was in a good situation
00:13:21when this song came out.
00:13:23In 2005, I was probably at the height of my career, making a lot of money.
00:13:29But it's records like this that remind me of where I came from.
00:13:34It's records like this that reminded me when I saw my mother being a single parent, struggling,
00:13:42hustling, trying to make it work.
00:13:45So Mary says to all the single parent mothers just trying to survive, doing what you got
00:13:49to do, working nine to five, because we hustle seven days out the week because we hustle
00:13:57just to stay on our feet.
00:13:59And then there's another line that says, we got to put food on the table.
00:14:04We got to keep our family strong.
00:14:07I love this record.
00:14:09And I just want to say, if you're out there hustling, doing what you got to do, working
00:14:14on you, working on your spiritual aspect, working on your physical aspect, working on
00:14:19that mental aspect, working on that financial aspect, keep hustling, keep doing what you
00:14:24need to do to make it work for you.
00:14:27Because everything starts with self and once you get you under control, then you're able
00:14:31to help others.
00:14:32You're able to help your family, you're able to help the closest ones to you.
00:14:36So keep hustling, keep strong, keep doing what you have to do to make it work.
00:14:43Yeah, we here, we here, we up.
00:14:49I want to say thank you all so much for coming in.
00:14:53Track 18, late start, heavy load, disc five restoration.
00:14:58I'm going to go ahead and bring my special guests up.
00:15:01See what Miss SOS has going on here tonight.
00:15:10What's going on?
00:15:11How are you?
00:15:12Hey, sweet lips, I'm hanging in there.
00:15:16I'm good.
00:15:17I'm good.
00:15:18How's your day today?
00:15:19Oh God, it was hectic, but I survived.
00:15:25We here, we made it.
00:15:27Exactly.
00:15:28I was going to say, I'm not going to lie, I am tired, but I always like hanging out
00:15:41with you.
00:15:42So it's worth it.
00:15:43That's what's up.
00:15:44I appreciate that.
00:15:45I will tell you that Monday, I had one of those days, I was so mentally drained.
00:15:52I don't know what was going on, but yeah, I feel you, I know.
00:15:57So we're going to try to make this as painless as possible, hopefully with some laughter
00:16:05to keep the energy light.
00:16:08Exactly.
00:16:09Yeah.
00:16:10But it's all good though.
00:16:12Welcome on in to Coaching Sessions Thursday.
00:16:16Yeah.
00:16:17So let's get on into it.
00:16:20So we're going to go to Newark, New Jersey, shout out to New Jersey, although I will tell
00:16:25you that I'm not a fan of New Jersey right about now.
00:16:28It has been cold.
00:16:30I'm keeping it real.
00:16:32It's like 45, 50 degrees.
00:16:37I had to dig back into my winter collection and I put on thermals today.
00:16:45Now I was just enjoying a couple of days ago with a t-shirt on, getting kissed by the sun.
00:16:54And then now we back to this BS right here.
00:16:57I was looking in the mirror like, ooh, you got that sun kiss.
00:17:01I like that.
00:17:02And then now we back to this BS, rain, cold, not feeling it, not liking it.
00:17:07What's the temperature where you at?
00:17:10Oh, probably in the 80s.
00:17:14Here it is about to be June in a couple of days and we dealing with 50s and rain and
00:17:1860s and crazy.
00:17:23It's the way of the world, sweet lips.
00:17:25It's the way of the world.
00:17:26What can I say?
00:17:27I can say, I don't like it.
00:17:30All right, so let's head on over to Newark, New Jersey.
00:17:38We helping out Mr. Roland.
00:17:42He's in his 50s and he's a custodian and an Uber driver.
00:17:48So after raising two kids as a single dad, Roland is finally trying to get his life back,
00:17:55but with no savings, back taxes and car repairs piling up.
00:17:59He's wondering if it's too late to break the cycle and he's tired, but he's not ready to
00:18:05give up.
00:18:07So I'll read that again.
00:18:08After raising two kids as a single dad, Roland is finally trying to get his life back, but
00:18:16with no savings, back taxes and car repairs piling up.
00:18:21He's wondering if it's too late to break the cycle.
00:18:23He's tired, but not ready to give up.
00:18:27So what do you think about Mr. Roland?
00:18:34I thought long and hard on this one because I, I feel Mr. Roland, although I don't have
00:18:42that situation, but I can definitely understand.
00:18:46It's never too late for anything, honestly.
00:18:50For any, I mean, he's 50, so really that's not old, you know?
00:18:55Although he's probably tired, but no, first off, he will definitely have to admit that
00:19:05he knows that he's in a situation and he's going to have to do something about that situation.
00:19:13So my thinking is that he would probably search for, I don't know, maybe a counselor
00:19:26or what do you go to when you're in a financial situation?
00:19:34You would go to someone maybe who can help you to get started on a plan or something
00:19:41to work with you and your finances to see where you are and make a plan to pay certain
00:19:51amounts or something like that.
00:19:53I don't really know.
00:19:54I'm just kind of, I mean, that's what I would do, but you know.
00:20:01So I would say the first thing is probably to seek help and have someone to explain what
00:20:11can be done and he's just going to have to, I don't know, I mean, he's just going to have
00:20:22to do what he can if he doesn't want to be in that situation.
00:20:25I'm sure that he'll find something to help or to solve this problem to get him on the
00:20:35path of getting out of debt.
00:20:38Yeah, yeah.
00:20:40Yeah, that definitely makes sense.
00:20:42I love how you says that it's never too late.
00:20:46That's key.
00:20:47So many people think because they're older that they can't change and we can always change.
00:20:56Every single day that we wake up, we have the opportunity to think differently and do
00:21:00something different.
00:21:01So I love that aspect that you said it's never too late.
00:21:06However, I will say that even though it's never too late, that doesn't mean that it's not
00:21:12going to be a challenge and it's not going to be hard.
00:21:15So I think as you time ticks, because time isn't forever, well, it is, but we aren't here
00:21:23forever, so you have to work harder.
00:21:31And so if you're in your 20s and you're listening, congratulations because you're in the
00:21:35right spot. If you're in your 30s, OK, you might have a little setback by the time you get in
00:21:41your 40s. All right.
00:21:43We starting to play with the nice now 50s.
00:21:47That's a scary moment.
00:21:49Now, as a financial coach, I have to keep it real.
00:21:52When you're 50s and you're playing games, that means your 60s are going to be a hell of a lot
00:21:58harder. So for me, I'm in my 40s and it's called a decade of sacrifice.
00:22:03You don't have to spend at least 10 years of hustling like like we spoke about earlier, making this
00:22:09thing work so that by the time you get in your 60s.
00:22:14You can be all right, so.
00:22:18Yeah, he has some work, like you said.
00:22:22But the first part.
00:22:24Like you said, admitting that he's in a situation.
00:22:28Some people want to admit that they have a problem.
00:22:32That was that was powerful when you said that, admit that he's in a situation.
00:22:37I like that. And when we know that we when we when we can get out of our own way of thinking
00:22:47that we know it all. And say, OK, I can't do this on my own, maybe I might need to seek some
00:22:53help, maybe I need to reach out to somebody, maybe I might need to ask questions, go to a library,
00:22:59pick up a book, listen to a podcast, do something to try to seek something other than what I
00:23:06think I have between, you know, my two ears.
00:23:10So seek some help some kind of way.
00:23:15Yeah, and definitely because in this day and age, I mean, 2025, you can virtually I mean,
00:23:25it's like like you said, a podcast.
00:23:28I mean, there's so many podcasts out there that you can just, you know, go on Spotify or
00:23:35whatever social media platform you use.
00:23:38And I mean, people are out there.
00:23:40You know, the information's out there.
00:23:42You just have to do a little research and see who you feel comfortable with.
00:23:48I know that's right.
00:23:49I don't want to, I don't want to.
00:23:54There's definitely, I'm sorry, there's just a there is a level of comfort, I think, that people
00:24:00people need, not that they need to be pacified or anything, but sometimes you just have to find
00:24:08somebody who you're able to connect with so that the communication is raw.
00:24:16And when I say raw, I mean, it's authentic that you're not holding anything back.
00:24:22Now, see, that's good.
00:24:24Raw and honest feedback because you don't want it.
00:24:30I spoke about this a couple of nights ago.
00:24:32You don't want anybody who's just going to sugarcoat things.
00:24:35You don't want anybody who is going to sell you a dream.
00:24:43Like this is reality, this is what we have to deal with.
00:24:46And yeah, I would say congratulations as a single father raising two kids.
00:24:56That's not easy.
00:24:57We don't know what the backstory is.
00:24:58We don't know why, but we know it's not easy.
00:25:03And you're in Newark, New Jersey, so that ain't easy either.
00:25:09So congratulations for getting through that.
00:25:16I don't know how old they are.
00:25:19No savings.
00:25:20I wouldn't get down and out about no savings because there's a lot of people who have no savings.
00:25:25Most Americans don't have over $2,000 in their bank account to cover an emergency.
00:25:31So that doesn't mean that we can't build one.
00:25:34We can build an emergency savings fund.
00:25:39The back taxes.
00:25:42Seek professional help, like you said.
00:25:45They have the tax forgiveness, not tax forgiveness, but the repayment plans.
00:25:49I don't know the ins and outs when it comes to the taxes.
00:25:52All I know is that when it comes to them, whatever they want, I pay them.
00:25:55I keep them away on no parts of them.
00:26:00You owe. Excuse me.
00:26:01I got you immediately because I want no parts of that.
00:26:05You don't want to get into any back tax situation.
00:26:08So that's something.
00:26:12The car repair is piling up.
00:26:16That's a problem.
00:26:19And there's two things that I was always told as a kid, teenager, whatever, growing up.
00:26:26You want to take care of two things, your house and your car,
00:26:30because you need some place to stay.
00:26:32Everybody needs to have some place to stay.
00:26:35But you don't have to take care of that car because you got to go and get that money
00:26:39to take care of the house.
00:26:41So you always want to make sure that your transportation is on point.
00:26:43So investing in better transportation is, I would say,
00:26:51that's probably one of the first things as well on a list to do.
00:26:56You're probably saying now, how can he do that when he clearly is struggling as it is?
00:27:07Yeah.
00:27:09I don't know.
00:27:10I mean, because, OK, now let's just use me for example.
00:27:16I moved all the way to this place that I live in to take care of my grandson.
00:27:24He's my first grandson.
00:27:28I don't have a car.
00:27:30I had to get rid of my car before I came here.
00:27:33However, there is a car for me to borrow.
00:27:39So I'm responsible for the insurance, which is not much at all, the upkeep and the gas.
00:27:48Now, I was fortunate enough that I can do that.
00:27:52So I'm just kind of hypothetically speaking or thinking maybe
00:28:03he knows someone who has a car.
00:28:08A lot of people have used cars that are just kind of maybe sitting around.
00:28:13And they want the car to be used so that it doesn't go bad.
00:28:21And so maybe he can work out something with someone,
00:28:28I mean, providing that he even finds someone like that.
00:28:32And the reason why I'm using this as a scenario
00:28:35is because I was a military wife for 20 years.
00:28:39And whenever we traveled, when we were exiting whatever state we were in,
00:28:46there are loads of people who have used cars.
00:28:49And they'll say, hey, we know that you guys are packing out and your car's gone,
00:28:54but we'll rent the car to you for like $10 or $15 a day.
00:28:59Just put gas in it and keep it up or whatever.
00:29:02So that happens a lot in the military.
00:29:05So I think that's why I use that example that maybe he can find someone.
00:29:13But again, he's also trying to get his finances together.
00:29:25It's not that he's going to use that person's car forever.
00:29:29But he does need some kind of transportation.
00:29:32Yeah, that's a good point.
00:29:36Thank you for bringing it up.
00:29:37First of all, I didn't know that.
00:29:39I didn't know two things, that you lived that life for 20 years.
00:29:44I didn't know that.
00:29:45That's the first.
00:29:47Second aspect is I didn't know about the renting of the cars.
00:29:54A light bulb just went off because that's in military towns.
00:29:58There's constantly in and out, in and out, in and out.
00:30:00So it's kind of hard to keep up with that like that.
00:30:04And then what do you do?
00:30:05You buy a car.
00:30:06And then now, all of a sudden, you've got to be shipped somewhere else.
00:30:09And then now, you have to sell it.
00:30:10And you have to deal with the nonsense and the BS.
00:30:12And you can't take the car with you.
00:30:14So that's interesting.
00:30:18Yeah.
00:30:20I mean, we can take our cars with us.
00:30:22But once all the household stuff is packed up, the car goes with it.
00:30:29So then we fly to our destination.
00:30:32And then we have to wait for our car.
00:30:35But usually, when people are exiting the island
00:30:38and they still maybe have a week or so with the island,
00:30:42that's because I was living on Guam.
00:30:44But wherever they're living, normally, there's
00:30:49somebody in their community that will have a car.
00:30:56And that's what they do.
00:30:58They just tell you, you can use it for however long you want.
00:31:04This is what we ask.
00:31:06And there's insurance and all of that.
00:31:07But I mean, it's nothing astronomical.
00:31:10It's just to help you to get around.
00:31:12Because it's difficult coming in and going out with nothing.
00:31:19Now, as I'm looking at this, and we're sitting here going
00:31:23through this, he's an Uber driver.
00:31:28That will probably be the reason why he may have some car repairs.
00:31:33And they're piling up.
00:31:35Now, there's one thing that I, as a financial coach,
00:31:40I do not recommend.
00:31:41First of all, without being a financial coach,
00:31:43because I would never do it myself.
00:31:45Whenever someone wants to make money,
00:31:47the first thing that they think about is Uber.
00:31:49Think about Uber.
00:31:51They think about door dashing.
00:31:52They think about all of these things because it's easy money.
00:31:55But you don't realize, if you don't,
00:31:57that there's wear and tear on your car.
00:32:01And now when that messes up, now what you going to do?
00:32:06Now you're messing up your main transportation source
00:32:11that you need to get the money in the first place,
00:32:14your main source of income.
00:32:15And then now you're Ubering on the side.
00:32:18Yes, you're making money, but there's
00:32:20wear and tear on your car.
00:32:21And then what's going to outweigh?
00:32:23Because most of the time, I don't know,
00:32:27but that money that you make is not
00:32:31going to cover the expenses because we're not putting money
00:32:35aside for the rainy day.
00:32:39Yeah, exactly.
00:32:40We're just living in a present moment.
00:32:41And yes, we have extra money coming in, and it's great.
00:32:44But there's wear and tear on that car.
00:32:46Eventually, you're going to need to get it serviced.
00:32:50So that could be one of his problems.
00:32:53So maybe the solution is maybe we just
00:32:55find another side hustle other than Ubering.
00:33:00Yeah, because Ubering is definitely
00:33:02a hustle kind of a job, though.
00:33:05You want to know why I couldn't do it?
00:33:09Because I don't want nobody in my car.
00:33:12I couldn't do that.
00:33:13What about you?
00:33:14Would you be able to do that?
00:33:17No, because I'm an ex-smoker, and I
00:33:20can't stand to smell people who have smoke on them.
00:33:25So if someone smoked a cigarette maybe, I'm sure,
00:33:30five minutes before, you would be able to smell.
00:33:32But what if it's an hour ago?
00:33:34You still can pick that up?
00:33:38Oh, yeah, when you're a non-smoker,
00:33:40because it's all over you.
00:33:41It's in your clothes.
00:33:42It's in everything.
00:33:45You wouldn't want them in your car, huh?
00:33:48No, no.
00:33:52If I can say, when I was married and I was living
00:33:56in Dumfries, Virginia, Woodbridge, Virginia,
00:34:00maybe most people know Woodbridge.
00:34:03So it's like maybe a 40-minute drive into DC.
00:34:11So they have those lines.
00:34:14Well, they call it the slug line.
00:34:15I don't know what they call it in Jersey.
00:34:18But it's where people line up to go to different places.
00:34:23So my ex, he would be going to the George Washington
00:34:27University, because that's where he
00:34:29worked with the kids who were going into the Navy
00:34:36as officers or whatever out of college.
00:34:40So anyway, different people would pull up,
00:34:45and you would be in that particular line already.
00:34:49And I told him, I said, if someone rolls their car down
00:34:55and it smells like cigarettes, we're not getting in there.
00:35:00Because in the wintertime, the windows are rolled up
00:35:05and the heater's on.
00:35:07That is the most god-awful smell in the world.
00:35:11And I have bronchitis.
00:35:12Oh, yeah.
00:35:14So no, the answer is just no.
00:35:18Now, it's so funny, because as a kid,
00:35:21I remember coming back, taking 295 or not 295, 95.
00:35:27Sorry, I got the roads mixed up.
00:35:29And I always seen the sign for Dumfries,
00:35:33as you just basically told me what it is.
00:35:37But you know what I thought it was as a kid?
00:35:42What?
00:35:43I can imagine.
00:35:44Absolutely.
00:35:45Dumfries.
00:35:46I'm like, what the hell is this place?
00:35:48I want to go to Dumfries.
00:35:49Do they sell fries?
00:35:50That's what I used to think as a kid.
00:35:52Yeah, it's right next to Woodbridge.
00:35:58And then you go to Stanton or, I don't know, not Stanton.
00:36:05Stafford?
00:36:05Is it Stafford?
00:36:06I don't know.
00:36:07I've been away from Virginia for a while.
00:36:09Virginia for a while.
00:36:10But anyway, so yeah, Dumfries, Virginia.
00:36:16Interesting.
00:36:17Learn something new every day.
00:36:18See, it's never too old.
00:36:20Never too old to learn something new.
00:36:23All right, so I think we cracked it here.
00:36:26I think that maybe his problems is this Ubering.
00:36:30I would stop it with the car, Ubering people around,
00:36:35try to get that under control.
00:36:36And if the car is not worth it, try
00:36:39to find some help, a professional,
00:36:43with those back taxes.
00:36:44That is key because, listen, they'll come in there
00:36:47and they'll take money out of your bank account.
00:36:49So you want to fix them.
00:36:50There's so many different aspects here,
00:36:52so many different dynamics that I
00:36:55know we're saying, admit this, that you did this,
00:36:57and you have a problem, and seek some professional help.
00:37:02Yeah, there's a lot going on here.
00:37:04Number one, you're an Uber driver
00:37:05and your car is having a problem.
00:37:07Now, you get in a car and somebody needs to go to an airport
00:37:11and it breaks down.
00:37:13No good.
00:37:14That person is not going to be happy
00:37:16and that's not going to be a good situation,
00:37:17and you probably will not get any good reviews.
00:37:20So I would probably find another side hustle.
00:37:24I'm going to take it to the top because there's so much.
00:37:26Another side hustle, cut out the Uber drivering.
00:37:32Drivering, driving.
00:37:34I knew what you meant.
00:37:36I knew what you meant.
00:37:38Focus on that savings.
00:37:40I know it's hard.
00:37:41I know it's easier said than done.
00:37:42And so many people are like, what are you talking about?
00:37:44But focus on that emergency savings
00:37:46and you'll thank me later.
00:37:48Start with at least $1,000.
00:37:50And if you can't with that, with the situation,
00:37:53try to slug away $20, $25, $50 a pay cycle
00:38:01until you can get up to that.
00:38:04Fix those back taxes because they will come in and wreak
00:38:07havoc.
00:38:12Yeah.
00:38:13Seek that professional help, whether it's the tax
00:38:18forgiveness, debt consolidation.
00:38:22I don't think a financial, I mean,
00:38:24I do know that financial coaching is good,
00:38:28but this is when you are on track, you don't owe.
00:38:34Yeah, so you need to focus on that three-letter word.
00:38:40Did I say that right?
00:38:42They have three letters in their name.
00:38:43You need to focus on them.
00:38:44Get them out of the way.
00:38:46I don't even want to say them.
00:38:49They take care of you immediately.
00:38:52So I think that that's what we have for Mr. Roland.
00:38:56Yeah.
00:38:57I do want to clarify something.
00:38:59I think I was, what I said was OK,
00:39:03but I was thinking that he didn't have a car,
00:39:08but he was just having issues with his car.
00:39:13And that's why I said the thing about maybe he
00:39:17could find somebody out there who could lend him a car
00:39:23because I was thinking he didn't have any transportation at all.
00:39:28But he does have transportation.
00:39:30It's just that the bills are racking up
00:39:33because his car is taking wear and tear.
00:39:39Yeah.
00:39:39And he's got to have repairs and things like that.
00:39:42Yeah, so that is very important.
00:39:48But I want to say, when I was living in Charlottesville,
00:39:52Virginia, which I just moved from in 2024,
00:39:57I was there for 12 years.
00:39:59That's the only place in my whole life
00:40:04that I've ever lived in one place for 12 years.
00:40:10My whole life, I mean, I'm 64 now.
00:40:13And it just blew my mind that I was there for 12 years.
00:40:16But what I wanted to say is the kind of life that I have,
00:40:23you might be able to call me a nomad person.
00:40:29And I did have a car.
00:40:31And then there was a time when I didn't have a car.
00:40:35And then I got a car again.
00:40:37But for me, because of how I live my life,
00:40:44I lived in a college town.
00:40:45So it was very easy to get around.
00:40:50And also, I have a lot of points
00:40:57racked up with Amtrak.
00:40:59Because I just hop on the bus 10 minutes away, go to Amtrak,
00:41:05go to DC, hang out, stay.
00:41:08Because all of my relatives are there anyway.
00:41:11And then come home.
00:41:13And I use the bus.
00:41:14I use the bus a lot.
00:41:16But Charlottesville is not really that big anyway.
00:41:19So for me, that style of life worked.
00:41:23You know what I mean?
00:41:25But for everybody, it's not going to work.
00:41:27But for me, it's like, oh, well, shit.
00:41:29I don't have a car.
00:41:30But you know, well, the bus is there.
00:41:33Look, I don't have a problem taking the bus.
00:41:36I mean, whatever.
00:41:37Like I said, I was a military wife for 20 years.
00:41:40So I don't think it's anything that I haven't done.
00:41:43Well, I've never stayed in a hostel before.
00:41:48But that's going to be on my list, though.
00:41:49I am going to stay in a hostel at least once just to try.
00:41:53But anyway, I'm just talking about the transportation part.
00:41:58Well, yeah, I'm going to chime in on that hostel.
00:42:00One thing I have to say to that is, more power to you.
00:42:04Because you know I ain't doing it.
00:42:05That's the first thing.
00:42:07Second thing, let's talk about the car situation.
00:42:12So I will tell you that don't be embarrassed
00:42:17by the car situation.
00:42:19Because cars have been very important in my lifetime.
00:42:24Because as a kid, we had the worst car on a block.
00:42:30The worst car on a block.
00:42:32Like you could hear us coming before you saw us.
00:42:36And I want you to picture Ace Ventura.
00:42:39Do you remember the car he had, Ace Ventura?
00:42:41Those were the types of cars that we had growing up.
00:42:45Now, so when I started to get cars, I was very,
00:42:50I'm trying to think of the right word.
00:42:55Help me out here.
00:42:56What word?
00:42:58It's not a complex, is it?
00:43:00I had a situation where I had to have a nice car.
00:43:06So I got myself into situations where I was, what I drove
00:43:10was more important than anything.
00:43:13And I got myself into situations where
00:43:15I had to get two cars repossessed.
00:43:18It was actually a me possession.
00:43:20I told him to come get it because I
00:43:21ain't paying you no more.
00:43:23It's one thing when they come and steal it from you
00:43:25when you're at work or you're whatever.
00:43:27But there's a such thing called the me possession
00:43:29when you basically know that absolutely not, I'm not doing
00:43:31this, come and get it.
00:43:32Now, I'm not giving anybody any advice of how to do this.
00:43:35But what I did was I knew that this was coming,
00:43:37so I stopped paying them.
00:43:38And that money that I was going to pay them every month,
00:43:41I socked that aside and I went and got me another car.
00:43:43So then when they did come and pick it up,
00:43:45guess what?
00:43:45It wasn't an issue because I already had my wheels.
00:43:48Now, if you let them just come and outright take it from you
00:43:50and you don't plan, that's a whole nother story.
00:43:53But then on the aspect, you still
00:43:55have to pay that money back.
00:43:57So just be very careful with that, too.
00:44:00But there's nothing wrong with just saying, guess what?
00:44:03I just don't drive.
00:44:04I just don't drive for a little bit
00:44:05while I get myself out of debt, especially if you can walk.
00:44:10Like you said, if you can take transportation,
00:44:12if you can ride a bike, if you can ride a scooter.
00:44:15Listen, when you sit there and worry
00:44:17about what somebody else thinks of you,
00:44:19then that's when you got a problem.
00:44:20But if you don't care about any of that stuff.
00:44:23I don't.
00:44:24And right about now, let me tell you,
00:44:27I can't wait till these self-driving cars kick in
00:44:30because I don't want to drive no more.
00:44:32I want somebody to drive me around.
00:44:35So I'll be signing up for these little cars that
00:44:38will be driving these self-driving cars
00:44:40because I'm ready for it.
00:44:43Push a little button on your cell phone
00:44:45and an automated Uber is sitting right outside your house
00:44:48in less than five minutes.
00:44:50I'm all right with that.
00:44:52Yeah, like the Jetsons.
00:44:54Who knew, right?
00:44:55I'm all right with that.
00:44:57What do you think about that?
00:44:58Would you get into a self-driving car?
00:45:04I probably would.
00:45:06I think I would just wait for a minute
00:45:11and just kind of check it out or whatever.
00:45:14But yeah, I would.
00:45:15I don't, yeah.
00:45:17You're smart.
00:45:18You never be the first person to jump on.
00:45:20You let everybody else test drive it first.
00:45:22Yeah, yeah.
00:45:23Let me see how they, what's going on.
00:45:27Did they end up in the ocean?
00:45:29I don't know.
00:45:32But you know, I did see them when
00:45:34I was in Arizona in January.
00:45:37On a road.
00:45:39No kidding.
00:45:40What did it look like?
00:45:42Well, it's a regular car, but it has
00:45:44like flashing lights on the top of it and on the sides.
00:45:48And they constantly swirl and flash.
00:45:50So when you're driving, you know that that's
00:45:52a self-driving car.
00:45:54And I thought it was interesting when I was driving
00:45:57and it turned.
00:45:58It was in a turning lane and I was going past it.
00:46:01So I said, oh, that's interesting.
00:46:03But when I went for a morning walk one day,
00:46:07it started coming down the street.
00:46:09And my first instinct was to run.
00:46:14Because it reminded me of like a runaway shopping cart.
00:46:18Like you don't want to get hit.
00:46:20Yeah.
00:46:21I got myself in check.
00:46:22I said, that's kind of crazy that you'd be trying to run.
00:46:25Like just chill out.
00:46:26It's a, you know what it is.
00:46:27Because I passed it on the road the other day.
00:46:29But yeah, it's interesting to see it kind of freaks you out
00:46:32a little bit when you see nobody in there
00:46:34and a car just driving down the street.
00:46:37I know, that's really wild.
00:46:40But they're in Arizona and they are moving to California.
00:46:45So my prediction is that once they tackle California,
00:46:49the next state is New York.
00:46:52Now if they can conquer that in New York,
00:46:55it's a complete rollout.
00:46:57Because those people drive like crazy in New York.
00:47:01Don't they though?
00:47:02You know, they did.
00:47:03You know what?
00:47:04There's no difference between New York drivers
00:47:08and people who drive in the Philippines.
00:47:11Wow.
00:47:13And people who drive in the Philippines,
00:47:15they have their own rules.
00:47:17I swear.
00:47:18And I don't want anybody if you're Filipino
00:47:21to get offended.
00:47:24But I had a personal driver
00:47:29because we were diplomats in the Philippines.
00:47:31So I was, you know, sitting in the back
00:47:34and our car was to the far right.
00:47:40Well, there was a car in the far left lane
00:47:44and it just cut all the way over.
00:47:46Like it was just nothing.
00:47:49It just cut all the way over to the right
00:47:51in front of our car.
00:47:53And my driver who's Filipino, he says,
00:47:56ma'am, don't worry.
00:47:58He said, they know how to drive.
00:48:01It's just how people drive here.
00:48:03And I say, yeah, well, you don't have to worry
00:48:05about me driving here.
00:48:07Yeah, I know that's right.
00:48:09I drove a limousine in New York.
00:48:15I was, don't know what I was thinking,
00:48:17but that job lasted for about maybe three to six months.
00:48:22But I was shocked.
00:48:24Stretch limousine.
00:48:25And man, yep.
00:48:29Gee, yeah, no, I wouldn't drive in New York either.
00:48:37My favorite part.
00:48:38Well, you know, people say they won't drive in DC,
00:48:40but I was born in DC.
00:48:43So I know all the circles and, you know, all of that stuff.
00:48:48But, you know, some people are like,
00:48:51oh no, I'm not driving in DC,
00:48:54but I guess maybe because I'm used to it.
00:48:58They got it.
00:48:59You said a lot of circles and stuff there.
00:49:01Oh, circles galore.
00:49:02When whoever designed that place,
00:49:05it wasn't Thomas Jefferson,
00:49:07whoever the president was or at that time.
00:49:11Yeah, everything is a circle there.
00:49:14Wow.
00:49:14You know, so you drive around circles.
00:49:19First of all, I wouldn't like that.
00:49:21And I wanna say that is so mystical
00:49:23that you brought up Thomas Jefferson,
00:49:25because my next question was gonna be,
00:49:27have you ever been to the White House?
00:49:30Yes, I have.
00:49:31And also, you know, Thomas Jefferson,
00:49:34Charlottesville, Virginia is the home of Thomas Jefferson
00:49:38and James Madison, I think.
00:49:40That's the president's, yeah.
00:49:43James Madison is the one that jumped out the window, right?
00:49:47Oh, did he jump out the window?
00:49:49I don't know.
00:49:49Maybe that was Andrew Jackson, I don't know.
00:49:52Yeah, yeah, but no, Thomas Jefferson,
00:49:55you know, he had all the slaves and South,
00:49:59what's his name?
00:50:00Sally, I don't even wanna say the name
00:50:03because I lived there so long
00:50:04and you'd think I'd know the lady's name,
00:50:06black lady, that he had all the kids with, but yeah.
00:50:11Wait a minute, wait a minute.
00:50:13I'm sorry, I don't mean to cut you off.
00:50:14Thomas Jefferson had kids with a slave?
00:50:20Yeah.
00:50:21Why don't I know that information?
00:50:22I'm sorry, everybody, if I don't know that information.
00:50:26Oh yeah, he was getting over, he was getting out, yeah.
00:50:30I mean, they all do, right?
00:50:31But yeah.
00:50:32Interesting.
00:50:34Yeah, they have little babies, you know,
00:50:37running around and stuff,
00:50:38but he was what, our third president?
00:50:42Yeah, but yes, I have been to the White House, actually.
00:50:46That was when Clinton was in office,
00:50:49our next door neighbor,
00:50:51when we were living on Bowling Air Force Base in D.C.,
00:50:54he's like, hey, you wanna go to the White House?
00:50:57And I'm like, yeah, let's go to the White House.
00:50:59And we got a chance to go in one of the rooms
00:51:02and it's pretty nice, yeah.
00:51:05But then when 9-11 came, D.C. is not the same anymore.
00:51:12All the wonderful free events
00:51:14that they put on for the public,
00:51:19like the Easter egg hunt at the White House.
00:51:25Yeah, we went to all of that stuff.
00:51:27I mean, Ben and Jerry's ice cream all day long,
00:51:32M&M candies, like just anything that you could think of,
00:51:38you know, marbled eggs.
00:51:40And if you found a egg with the cat's print on it
00:51:46or the dog that they had,
00:51:48or if it just said the White House,
00:51:50it was absolutely fantastic.
00:51:53All of it was free all day until they closed it down,
00:51:58every Easter until 9-11.
00:52:02Wow, that's crazy.
00:52:04And I was on the highway when the airplane came down
00:52:10to hit the Pentagon.
00:52:15That's amazing.
00:52:15Like I saw the airplane and I thought,
00:52:17that's really weird.
00:52:18Like, why would the airplane be over here?
00:52:21And the next thing I knew, there was this big loud boom,
00:52:26a ball of fire, and then smoke everywhere.
00:52:29And I turned the radio and said
00:52:30that it just hit the Pentagon.
00:52:35Yeah, so anyway, we won't go get off the subject,
00:52:40but one thing keeps leading to the other.
00:52:42I know, right?
00:52:43We just sit there and just sat in that school.
00:52:46That's good, you know how it goes.
00:52:48All right, well, ladies and gentlemen,
00:52:51now is the time where we get into
00:52:53our segment of burning questions.
00:52:56If you like tonight's show,
00:52:58if you wanna give us feedback,
00:53:00if you wanna chime in on tonight's burning question,
00:53:02please feel free to text me at 609-200-1098.
00:53:06Again, that number is 609-200-1098.
00:53:10That is the official 411 Podcast
00:53:11reading between one's hotline.
00:53:14And tonight's burning question is,
00:53:17is there still time to rebuild your life
00:53:20when you're starting over in your 50s
00:53:23with debt and disappointment?
00:53:25I'll read that again.
00:53:27Is there still time to rebuild your life
00:53:29when you're starting over in your 50s
00:53:32with debt and disappointment?
00:53:36What do you think, SOS?
00:53:40Like I said before, yes, indeed.
00:53:45But it's gotta be a thing where you really
00:53:49are going to be intentional about it.
00:53:51And like I said, the first part is just admitting.
00:53:56Seek help, find some counseling,
00:53:58just see what's gonna work for you,
00:54:01even if you have to go through a few people.
00:54:03But it is never too late.
00:54:05It's never too late, ever, ever.
00:54:10I agree.
00:54:11Yes, there is still time.
00:54:12If you are breathing, you still have time to get it done.
00:54:18It won't be easy, easy as it would have been
00:54:22if you had started a long time ago.
00:54:24That just means you're gonna have to hustle
00:54:26and you're gonna have to flow a little bit harder
00:54:28than the average bear, but you still can get it done.
00:54:35Yeah, and I just wanna add one more thing.
00:54:40I know that we don't really know everything
00:54:45about this person, but sometimes we have to take into account
00:54:57as far as what they are able to do,
00:55:02because nowadays, much older people are having to learn
00:55:10new things or to do things differently
00:55:13than they would before.
00:55:14So then they have to come out of that mindset.
00:55:17Well, we used to, well, it's no longer we used to.
00:55:20It's like what we're doing right now.
00:55:22So get on board, suck it up.
00:55:28Cause I'm one of those people too,
00:55:30sometimes I'm like, I don't wanna do that shit.
00:55:32But then it's like, well, you don't really have a choice
00:55:35because they don't do things like they did
00:55:39when you were born, people were dinosaurs.
00:55:42I know what you mean.
00:55:45I was born in 61, you know what I mean?
00:55:48Life was fucking great.
00:55:50Well, I get caught up in that too.
00:55:54Okay, for example, I was in the store
00:55:56and this lady was asking me about the sale
00:55:58and I'm like, well, didn't you get the text message?
00:56:00And she's sitting here saying,
00:56:01I don't want to do the text message.
00:56:04And I told her, well, I said,
00:56:06well, you might get left behind.
00:56:08So that was me letting her know
00:56:10that you need to get it together
00:56:11cause I'm sure you text your children or your grandchildren.
00:56:14You can sign up for a text message
00:56:16if you want this discount.
00:56:17That was the one thing.
00:56:19But then I find myself when it comes
00:56:22to how the prices used to be,
00:56:26I got to get with myself and say,
00:56:28no, when you go to Burger King or you go to McDonald's,
00:56:32nowadays a good 15, $20 is only going to get you
00:56:37enough food that you need.
00:56:39Forget about when you were in high school,
00:56:43when I could go up and get something for five or six bucks
00:56:47and hook my friends up as well.
00:56:51That don't work no more.
00:56:52That $20 ain't going to stretch for four people no more.
00:56:55That's only going to focus on you.
00:56:58I have to tell myself that when it comes
00:56:59to the prices of things too.
00:57:02Oh yeah, absolutely.
00:57:05Yeah, you can't get stuck in that.
00:57:10Yeah, and just thinking back
00:57:15since we are talking about things from way back
00:57:18when I was in junior high school in DC,
00:57:23I was a bi-coastal kid.
00:57:25So what I mean by that is whatever parent
00:57:29I was living with at the time,
00:57:31that's where I went to school.
00:57:32So my dad was in DC, my mom was in California,
00:57:35so I went back and forth.
00:57:37But anyway, I was living in DC at the time
00:57:39and we went on a skiing trip to Massanutten.
00:57:44And I'm trying to think like it was probably mid 70s.
00:57:52Do you know how much a pack of cigarettes costs?
00:57:54Yeah, I did smoke when I was in junior high school, y'all.
00:57:58I'm going to say a dollar.
00:58:0475 cents.
00:58:0775 cents, can you believe that?
00:58:09No, because I asked somebody recently
00:58:11how much a pack of cigarettes are.
00:58:13And I could be wrong, but is it close to like,
00:58:20this is probably too high.
00:58:22It's not close to $15, is it?
00:58:25It's possible, in 2008, when my youngest son
00:58:32moved to Flushing, New York,
00:58:34and me and my oldest son, we went to visit
00:58:37and he's like, hey, can we stop at a bodega
00:58:40or something to get cigarettes?
00:58:42$8 a pack, that was in 2008.
00:58:46That's possible, it's up there.
00:58:48$8, yeah, yeah, it's possible.
00:58:53That's crazy, because I remember going to the store
00:58:55when I was younger and my aunt would send me,
00:58:58this is when little kids could buy cigarettes.
00:59:01And I used to buy them for her and it was $2.
00:59:06I know, right?
00:59:08And that's, your parents would write you a note
00:59:11and send you down to the corner to get some cigarettes?
00:59:14I'm going to.
00:59:16That's amazing.
00:59:18Ooh, but what about when we used to,
00:59:20well, you probably don't remember this, Laren,
00:59:22but when I used to fly, like years ago,
00:59:25you could smoke on the airplane.
00:59:27Oh, hell no.
00:59:28It was, yes.
00:59:31It was so normal to just sit there and smoke
00:59:34and put in that little teeny ashtray on the arm seat.
00:59:39Everybody was smoking cigarettes.
00:59:40Oh, hell no, yeah.
00:59:43First of all, you got all that radiation
00:59:45and mess going on up there.
00:59:47And then now you've got cigarettes too in secondhand.
00:59:51Well, now you can say that.
00:59:53You can say that in 2025, but that's not where you were.
00:59:58You know, like in the seventies,
01:00:00you smoking at the doctor's office,
01:00:02you smoking in the grocery store.
01:00:06It's amazing, isn't it?
01:00:07Hell, they might as well just let people drink too.
01:00:11Oh, they probably did.
01:00:13Yeah.
01:00:17You've got a way of mustachioness.
01:00:19Oh my goodness.
01:00:21Wow.
01:00:22Yeah, but yeah.
01:00:23I'm an ex-smoker who cannot stand to smell cigarette smoke.
01:00:30That's that.
01:00:31Yeah.
01:00:33And that's a deal breaker for dating too.
01:00:35If you smoke-
01:00:36What about if somebody vapes?
01:00:38Because you can't smell that.
01:00:40If they vape, I guess that's okay.
01:00:44But cigarette smoke, nope, not happening.
01:00:48I just don't like the smell.
01:00:49I don't like the smell of it.
01:00:53Well, what else would you like to add
01:00:55for tonight's segment before we get out of here?
01:00:58Well, if you used to do things the old way
01:01:04and now you're still living
01:01:07and you know that you have to change over to the new way,
01:01:13you may not want to resist so much.
01:01:17And it's hard, it's difficult
01:01:20because sometimes you just don't know what to do.
01:01:23And you don't know how to deal with it.
01:01:26And it's hard, it's difficult
01:01:28because sometimes it just doesn't make sense.
01:01:30But however, that's how the times are these days.
01:01:37So you'll just have to get with the program
01:01:41and I don't know, learn something different.
01:01:45Yeah, that's some good advice there.
01:01:48Your banking, everything.
01:01:49I mean, pretty much everything,
01:01:51even shopping or everything is like online
01:01:57and I'm not an online shopper.
01:01:58I wanna go into the store and touch the clothes
01:02:01and I wanna see if they fit my butt
01:02:03because I don't have a apple bottom or whatever.
01:02:06So, I mean, not saying that
01:02:09because you have an apple bottom,
01:02:12but all jeans don't fit me.
01:02:14I just cannot go and say, oh, let me pick out a pair.
01:02:19I can't do that online stuff.
01:02:22I need to make sure that the pants fit me.
01:02:24Now, yeah, when it comes to clothes,
01:02:27yeah, I feel you on that.
01:02:29But everyday stuff, I want that stuff shipped to me.
01:02:32I don't wanna be in no line for no deodorant, toothpaste,
01:02:36all that, send that right to the house.
01:02:40You're so extra, Laren.
01:02:41I'm just serious.
01:02:42No, I worked in retail for over 25 years.
01:02:47I don't wanna be in a store.
01:02:48I can't stand being in line.
01:02:51I want no parts of it.
01:02:54He said, just send it to the house.
01:02:57Just send it to me.
01:02:58When can I get it?
01:03:02It's all right, though.
01:03:03You know, I always say that about you,
01:03:05so not to take it personal.
01:03:10Yeah, because if I had to say
01:03:13who was spoiled between me and you,
01:03:15I definitely have to say you.
01:03:17I don't know.
01:03:19Yes.
01:03:20No, you're spoiled.
01:03:21So you'd be surprised.
01:03:25Okay, all right, all right.
01:03:29Well, I wanna say thank you so much
01:03:30for helping me out with our scenario
01:03:36with Mr. Roland here in Newark, New Jersey.
01:03:39Thank you for your insight.
01:03:40It's always a wonderful time catching up with you here.
01:03:45Thank you, I appreciate it.
01:03:48And I hope that the viewers or the listeners,
01:03:51is that what you call them, listeners?
01:03:53Is that the right word?
01:03:54I call them listeners.
01:03:55Yeah, hopefully they appreciate what I'm saying,
01:04:00but I'm not an expert on this.
01:04:02I'm just merely giving my opinion
01:04:05or what my common sense might tell me to do.
