00:00I wouldn't have even thought that like cyber security could have made an issue with the 10 year
00:03with it being two different pictures that's kind of crazy to me. Welcome to WatchMojo and today
00:07we're counting down our picks for the most believable conspiracy theories from the depths
00:11of reddit. No! No Yoda! No Yoda! No Yoda!
00:19Number 20. The Suspicious Rise of Coding.
00:22I hope you don't screw like your type. Over the last decade, the popularity and promotion of coding
00:34have shot through the roof. Children as young as five years old studied the subject in school in
00:38hopes of improving their chances of employment as adults. Nine and his classmates also compete in
00:43coding competitions and earn colored belts for their achievements similar to martial arts students.
00:48However, if everyone's a coder, is it even a lucrative profession anymore?
00:53That's where the conspiracy comes in. As the supply of coders far exceeds the demand for the same,
00:58unemployment rises and salaries dip. Uninhibited growth in the workforce means big tech gets to
01:04engage more labor for less and keep the profits going. Knowing the grip capitalism has on the
01:09world, it doesn't seem ludicrous that this might have been the big plan all along.
01:13Coding careers are expected to grow 13% through 2026. It's also becoming so popular,
01:19many students are taking classes online, like Lambda School.
01:23Number 19. Banksy Revealed.
01:25Most normal art is built to last like hundreds of years. It's cast in bronze or it's oil on canvas,
01:33but street art has a short lifespan, so it needed documenting.
01:37The elusive street artist who has taken the world by storm with his revolutionary graffiti
01:42continues to evade identification to this day. One theory suggests that the co-creator of
01:47Gorillaz, illustrator Jamie Hewlett, is Banksy.
01:49If you can't get what you want, then come with me.
01:57An investigation into the business side of the artist's work by a forensic expert reveals Hewlett
02:01as the ultimate owner of several Banksy-related entities. However, what makes things interesting
02:06is how Hewlett's PR agent Joanna Brooks reacted. She stated firmly to Metro, the publisher that broke
02:12the story, that quote, Jamie Hewlett is not the artist Banksy. Either Brooks was particularly
02:17careless about the typo in her client's name replacing the E with an I, or it was a deliberate
02:22misspelling, which fed the rumors further. We'll go with the latter.
02:26You don't mind if I pass along your details to the police?
02:31No. What details have you got?
02:34I know your real name. I know your real name.
02:36Do you?
02:37Number 18. Frozen was a cover-up.
02:39Your sister? She returned from the mountain weak and cold. She said that you froze her heart.
02:46This theory dates back to the 70s when Cryonics fanatic Bob Nelson reportedly claimed Walt Disney
02:51was looking into Cryonics. As is common with urban legends, the story took on a life of its own
02:56even when it was revealed that the celebrated animator had been cremated. In fact, the whole
03:01reason Walt's daughter Diane set up the Walt Disney Family Museum was to end the gross speculation.
03:07Let it go, let it go, when I'll rise like the break I'm done. Let it go, let it go, that perfect girl is gone.
03:20When that didn't work, Disney released Frozen to drown out the Cryonics story once and for all,
03:25or that's what netizens believe. Now, when you search for Disney Frozen online, it's the studio's
03:31blockbuster hit that shows up, not a disturbing sci-fantasy. Intended or not, the result was ideal.
03:38Is Great Uncle Walt frozen underneath the Pirates of the Caribbean rock?
03:41He is not. We don't have him in an ice cube tray in the freezer. And no, not frozen.
03:46Was that the funeral? Remember it well? No, not frozen.
03:49Number 17. Aliens in the Ocean
03:51It's just like the mushroom planet. It looks exactly like a mushroom.
03:57The majority of the Earth's surface is covered by oceans, and they are largely unexplored. The
04:02constant discovery of new sea creatures is proof that we'll never truly know what lies down there.
04:07It's not outrageous to think then that extraterrestrial life, or at least alien technology,
04:12may be hidden away underwater. Strange phenomena like the Baltic Sea Anomaly, which revealed an
04:17unusual object in the seabed, offer compelling evidence in favor of this theory, too.
04:21The anomaly lies in international waters, and other nations' authorities around the Baltic Sea
04:28have shown an interest in the object.
04:30Similarly, American Congressman Tim Burchett's claim that a mysterious vessel is navigating the
04:35seas at a tremendous speed has raised eyebrows among alien enthusiasts.
04:38NASA's rare involvement with deep-sea exploration as compared to their prolific space missions
04:43only helps conspiracies thrive.
04:54Number 16. Museums don't display the real deal.
04:58Her head is much too large in proportion for the rest of the figure.
05:02So this is a late 19th century fake.
05:04Some Redditors argue that historically significant documents and iconic paintings like the Mona
05:09Lisa are not actually displayed in museums, at least not always. Instead, we see copies so
05:15the integrity of the originals can be preserved. In a sense, this is true. The United States
05:20Declaration of Independence, seen in the National Archives in Washington, D.C., is a signed copy.
05:24180 years of searching, and I'm three feet away.
05:29Of all the ideas that became the United States, there's a line here that's at the heart of all
05:33the others. So it's possible that other such artifacts could be replicas, too. It isn't too
05:38aggravating when we're in the know, perhaps just a bit of a bummer. However, the real question is,
05:44are museums hiding the real stuff in an elaborate con? And if so, do the originals even exist anymore?
05:50Whether there's merit to such doubts, only time will tell.
05:53Number 15. Egg prices are rising due to greedflation.
05:57More bidders willing to pay more for diminished supply means the price goes up.
06:02And consumer behavior is driving up demand as well, because of anxiety buying.
06:07The ridiculous price hike for poultry products in the United States has been
06:11memed seven ways from Sunday. However, there might be something much more sinister behind this
06:16inflation. We're told that egg prices are going up because the avian flu is driving down supply.
06:20While that is a contributing factor, the Justice Department is looking into whether industry
06:25giants might be restricting supply on purpose. We used to get a case for about $27, and now we're
06:31getting them for about $150. According to the New York Times, back in 2023, some of the largest egg
06:37suppliers in the U.S. paid millions of dollars in damages after being found guilty of orchestrating
06:42an inflation. So it wouldn't be surprising if it turns out Big Egg is milking the bird flu crisis to
06:48rake in the dough. That is greedflation.
06:51For now, though, the U.S. is looking to make up for some of the shortfall by importing eggs from
06:56Turkey, one of the world's biggest exporters.
06:59Number 14. Deep-sea fish sightings spell doom.
07:02A strange occurrence says not only one but two of the rarest creatures from the deep blue sea
07:07wash ashore in the same week in Catalina and Oceanside.
07:10Every time a creature from the depths of the ocean comes up to the surface,
07:13it sets off alarm bells. Legend has it that if deep-sea fish like the oarfish, also called the
07:19doomsday fish, are spotted near the surface, it means disaster isn't far behind. According to reports,
07:25an unusually high number of oarfish were once found beached across Japan, and the devastating
07:292011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami followed. Not so fun fact, they've been popping up more and more
07:35in recent years.
07:36The fish was that big. How big? It took 15 sailors to hold it.
07:42You don't have to be superstitious to acknowledge the gravity of this situation.
07:46Such displacement is most likely due to climate change causing disturbances in marine habitats.
07:50Needless to say, that's not only harmful to life underwater, but also on land.
07:55I won't even touch it.
07:58I'll actually touch it.
07:59Number 13. Too many mattress firms.
08:02I always wanted to go to a mattress store.
08:06Wow! I've never seen so many mattresses.
08:11This is one of those conspiracy theories that have a real-life impact.
08:14It started when Reddit users noticed that there were way too many mattress firm stores in the U.S.
08:19This led to speculation about the company's involvement with money laundering.
08:23It certainly did not help that the conglomerate that bought mattress firm in 2016,
08:27Steinhoff International, was later mired in a fraud scandal.
08:30It's home to your local sleep experts, and what's better than getting everyone the sleep that they need
08:34is the benefits that you get by working with us.
08:37Ultimately, in 2018, 700 mattress firms were closed down in one swift blow.
08:42The company maintained that they weren't cleaning dirty money.
08:45However, a lawsuit they filed against former employees claiming they pocketed kickbacks
08:49from real estate agents for encouraging expansion confirmed that something was indeed fishy.
08:54That case ended in a settlement, but this Reddit theory isn't going anywhere.
08:58There was a different mattress store on every corner right there in the same area,
09:02so I didn't care whether I bought one from one or the other.
09:05Number 12.
09:06The Hawaii false alarm may not have been a mistake.
09:14A lot of people got scared.
09:18Luckily for me, I was stuck through the whole thing.
09:20On January 13, 2018, Hawaiian citizens fell into panic after a missile alert flashed on their phone screens.
09:26Chaos descended on the island state as people feared an attack from North Korea.
09:30Some traumatic minutes later, it was revealed that the notification was a false alarm that was sent through
09:35because of a Hawaii Emergency Management Agency employee's mistake during a drill.
09:40I can't say that I would do anything differently based on what I saw and heard.
09:45I feel very badly for what's happened, the panic.
09:50However, the man, who had allegedly made such errors before,
09:53later claimed he was 100% sure that the emergency was real.
09:56Either way, the mishap convinced conspiracy theorists that the false alarms were trial runs
10:02meant to study the public's reaction to an actual threat.
10:05Japan made a similar blunder a few days later, which further supported the claim.
10:09In the aftermath, people across Hawaii were confronted with this question.
10:13What would you do if this was the real thing?
10:15Number 11.
10:16The Hinge algorithm is terrible on purpose.
10:18What started out as a small company that struggled to compete with now billion-dollar giants like Tinder
10:24has grown to become one of the most popular apps in the dating space.
10:29Downloading, deleting, and re-downloading Hinge is a rite of passage in the era of online dating.
10:33Although love is at our fingertips, it's getting harder than ever to forge a real connection.
10:38This is because the system is rigged.
10:40Several users across the world have spoken out about their negative experiences on Hinge.
10:44Every time you say you like someone or you dislike someone, we're kind of learning on the back end
10:48and sort of figuring out like, okay, you like this type of person, you don't like that type of person.
10:52According to some claims, Hinge may be deliberately hiding its most attractive users from you
10:57after luring you in with an initial round of ideal matches.
11:00Likewise, your account is probably hidden too.
11:03Don't worry though, the app's premium subscriptions, which come with profile boosts,
11:07will save the day if you cough up a fee.
11:09Maybe it's designed to be deleted because it's not worth contributing to such an obvious money-making scheme.
11:15We are getting people out on great dates.
11:17And that's why I think you're seeing that people generally today,
11:20they meet online more than anywhere else.
11:22It has become like the most effective tool for people to meet.
11:26Number 10. Modern art auctions are a front.
11:29Does anyone really get modern art?
11:32Like, seriously, who buys a painting when it's just pure white?
11:35And how are these weird non-paintings selling at auctions for millions of dollars?
11:40I love, I absolutely love.
11:43Um, that's just the air conditioner.
11:46Well, one popular theory holds that modern art and art auctions
11:50are just a front for money laundering practices.
11:53Do you see how I echo money with my brush strokes?
11:57Yeah.
11:58Oh, yeah?
11:58Yeah.
11:59Dirty money is used to pay for paintings, whether they're really worth anything or not,
12:03which allows rich criminals to launder their cash in such a way
12:06that the government cannot touch it.
12:08While it would certainly go a long way to explaining how the price of art got so inflated,
12:12People's art sucks!
12:14You're living a lie!
12:16You're living a lie!
12:18Yeah, take it down!
12:19You're living a lie!
12:20Number 9. Walk-Up Piercer
12:22There have been some crazy connections made between movies over the years,
12:25but one of the most strangely compelling is the idea that the 2013 dystopian movie Snowpiercer
12:31is really a sequel to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
12:35Would you wear a shoe on your head?
12:37Proponents of the idea cite numerous similarities,
12:40including that both feature characters traveling through a fantastical structure,
12:44who are then progressively whittled down as they progress through it.
12:48You repair his kindness with violent organism!
12:52The idea is that the train's inventor, Wilford, is actually an older version of Charlie Bucket,
12:58who modeled his frozen dystopious lifeboat on Wonka's self-sustaining candy factory.
13:03It may be pure imagination, but it is fascinating nonetheless.
13:07Don't just stand there! Do something!
13:10Help! Police! Murder!
13:13Number 8. The U.S. Doesn't Offer Free Higher Education Because of the Military
13:17While the U.S. offers free public education up to the end of high school,
13:21universities and higher learning costs, well, an arm and a leg would be an understatement.
13:27Although there have been growing calls for the government to fully fund higher ed,
13:30many see it as unlikely for one simple reason, the U.S. military.
13:35In the U.S., military service is voluntary.
13:38However, it also offers subsidized access to higher education along with service,
13:44giving lower-income families opportunities they wouldn't otherwise be able to afford.
13:48The conspiracy theory states that the government would never fully fund higher education,
13:53because if everyone had free access to college without the added danger of active service,
13:58far fewer people would choose the military.
14:00Are you ready to sign up on GoArmy.America?
14:06Number 7. The First Cosmonauts In Space Never Returned Alive
14:10Yuri Gagarin was the first human to go to space, right?
14:14Well, some have posited that prior to Gagarin's historic flight,
14:18the Soviet Union sent several other cosmonauts to space,
14:21where they either died or were captured by foreign powers upon their return to Earth.
14:25After several decades of propaganda, lies, and official denials,
14:30the truth about one of humanity's greatest achievements can now be told.
14:34Given the Soviet Union's secretive nature, it's easy to believe this theory,
14:39even though there are several big holes in it.
14:41We have photographs where we believe a cosmonaut in training has been airbrushed away.
14:47For one thing, Soviet space records have been made available to the public.
14:51And for another, the USA was keeping a close eye on the USSR during the space race
14:57and definitely would have caught wind of any rocket launches.
15:00Even after several decades, CIA and U.S. State Department documents are still classified on this issue.
15:07Number 6. Area 51 is a decoy
15:10For over half a century, conspiracy theorists around the world have obsessed over Area 51,
15:17a Nevada Air Force base often associated with UFOs and extraterrestrial conspiracies.
15:22It wasn't even publicly acknowledged until 2013.
15:24But one Reddit theory suggests that Area 51 is only a decoy for the real location
15:30where the U.S. conducts alien experiments.
15:32I got a top secret for you.
15:35There's no such thing as flying saucers.
15:37The theory goes that even if Area 51 has conducted experiments on UFO technology in the past,
15:43it makes a lot of sense to keep the public's attention focused anywhere
15:47but where the real work is being done currently.
15:49Any magician can tell you that misdirection is a powerful tool.
15:53The truth. What is going on here at Area 51?
15:57What are these black budget projects?
16:00We just fly these birds.
16:02They don't tell us what makes them go.
16:03They engineer them all up in Utah.
16:05Number 5. The 10-Year Challenge was created for facial recognition.
16:10Social media is full of memes designed to get people to post photos of themselves,
16:14but one in particular has been cited as being more than it appears.
16:17O'Neill says sharing how we've aged could be mine to train facial recognition algorithms.
16:23The 10-Year Challenge, in which people post pictures of themselves both currently and 10 years prior,
16:28has been suggested to have been crafted so as to give facial recognition software
16:32a baseline for how people's faces change over the course of a decade.
16:35It's very possible that someone else seeded that challenge
16:39so that they could capture those two images and use it for whatever means.
16:45Although a lot of these photos were already available on social media,
16:48specifying the 10-Year Gap and then placing them side by side
16:52would be a lot easier than data mining millions of people.
16:56I think this is a huge privacy concern that people are unaware of.
16:59Number 4. The FBI Starts Reddit Conspiracy Threads
17:03One of the most meta-reddit theories out there posits that government agencies,
17:08such as the FBI, are actually the ones who start Reddit conspiracy threads.
17:12In this way, the agencies are able to better keep track of what the public knows but can't prove,
17:18or else they use the threads to discredit some theories
17:20by making those that believe in them seem like they're unhinged.
17:23This kind of thing has the appearance of being believable
17:25because of how easy it would be for agencies to use this method
17:28for both information-gathering and disinformation.
17:31I'm with the FBI.
17:34Number 3. The Roswell Incident Was a Soviet Aircraft
17:37In 1947, an unidentified flying object crashed at a ranch in New Mexico.
17:43While the military has subsequently claimed it was a weather balloon,
17:46UFO believers have claimed the object was alien in origin,
17:50and that the military is involved in a cover-up.
17:52Are we truly alone?
17:58Or are we being lied to?
18:01However, what if the conspiracy theorists are right about the cover-up,
18:05but wrong about the UFO's origin?
18:08One idea suggests that the Roswell Incident was actually a Soviet aircraft
18:12that was shot down or crashed on U.S. soil.
18:15Some suggest, conversely, that the Soviets faked a crash to spread panic.
18:18The flying disc that landed at Roswell
18:22had not been sent from outer space,
18:25but had in fact been sent by Stalin.
18:28The cover-up was to stop people from panicking
18:31that America's Cold War nemesis managed to come close
18:33to striking at the heart of the country.
18:35Number 2. Pockets vs. Purses
18:37The pockets on most clothing marketed towards women suck.
18:42They're usually too small to hold anything bigger than a toothpick,
18:45and whenever there is a piece of clothing with good pockets,
18:48it's super exciting.
18:49So, why doesn't the fashion industry make bigger or better pockets
18:53for women's clothes if the demand is there?
18:55One Reddit theory suggests that fashion companies
18:58are purposely keeping these pockets useless to sell more purses.
19:02After all, you don't see a lot of purses made for men,
19:04and they seem to be doing just fine.
19:06So, if people who wear women's clothes didn't need purses anymore,
19:10surely purse sales would plummet, right?
19:12Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel
19:15and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
19:18You have the option to be notified for occasional videos or all of them.
19:22If you're on your phone, make sure you go into your settings
19:24and switch on notifications.
19:28Number 1. UFOs are flown by future humans
19:31As we've seen, plenty of theories abound about aliens and UFOs.
19:36But, one that's been gaining a lot of traction on Reddit
19:39is the idea that the crafts and creatures that some believe exist
19:42and originate from elsewhere in the universe
19:44actually originate from Earth.
19:46From the far future.
19:48It would certainly explain why the popular images of aliens
19:50look so much like we do,
19:52and why so few UFOs have been spotted from space.
19:55They never had to leave Earth's atmosphere.
19:57By traveling back in time,
19:59perhaps these future humans are trying to investigate their past
20:02to solve some future crisis.
20:04Or, to stop it from happening altogether.
20:07Now what's going on there?
20:08History.
20:10What's the most outlandish conspiracy theory you've heard of?
20:12Tell us in the comments down below.
20:14Hey, uh, what was the purpose of life anyway?
20:17Who knows?
20:18Probably some hogwash about the human spirit.
20:21Sounds about right.
