00:03:48What do you boys think about going turkey hunting this year
00:03:51I
00:03:54Think really my mom wants to
00:03:57Me to ask you would you come down our house?
00:04:01There's some kind of wild man down there in the woods about the quake
00:04:05now boy, I
00:04:07Want you to go back down there and tell your mama thing the thing in the world to be afraid of
00:04:11I'll come down there tomorrow and check it out
00:04:17Go ahead
00:04:20Yes, sir
00:04:27You know, that's the third time that old lady sent that kid up here to tell me there's a big old hairy monster down there
00:04:32My feel I guess I'll have to get down there tomorrow and see about it
00:04:49You
00:05:19I
00:05:43Was seven years old when I first heard him scream it scared me then and it scares me now
00:05:49I
00:06:19I
00:06:49I
00:07:19I
00:07:42This is Falk, Arkansas, I
00:07:45Grew up here
00:07:46the population is about
00:07:49350 when I was a boy
00:07:51It still is
00:07:54Falk is way down in the southwest corner where Arkansas joins, Texas and Louisiana
00:08:01If you've ever driven from Shreveport to Texarkana you passed right through fop
00:08:07Even if you don't remember seeing it
00:08:11Aside from homes
00:08:13Falk has several stores a couple of gas stations a post office and school
00:08:19garage and motel and
00:08:22two cafes where the men folk stop by for coffee and
00:08:26Conversation on the fish they've caught or the duck quail squirrel or deer they've hunted
00:08:33Fishing and hunting take up a lot of almost everybody's time
00:08:37Maybe smoky crab tree who lives way back down on the edge of the bottoms will tell about a
00:08:42Mink or beaver he or his son Travis caught
00:08:46Smokey raises beef cattle and traps part-time and works as a pipeline welder when the good jobs come along
00:09:01He's a good welder
00:09:03He's a good welder
00:09:05He's a good welder
00:09:07He's a good welder
00:09:09He's a good welder
00:09:11He's a good welder
00:09:13He's a good welder
00:09:15Travis walks and paddles for miles every morning running his trap lines before school starts
00:09:32Most of the people who live around Falk are farmers or ranchers
00:09:37This country is rich and fertile with plenty of grass and water
00:09:42Our land is veined with a great network of branches creeks river and lakes
00:09:48Falk is a a right pleasant place to live
00:09:54Until the sun goes down
00:10:11That
00:10:16Day in the store Willie Smith didn't believe me when I told him about a wild hairy creature in the woods
00:10:23He believes me now
00:10:30And he ran on
00:10:32He's jumped over the fence just seemed like he just sort of pushed it down with his left hand just stepped over
00:10:38It was wounded and was holding that right chest
00:10:40It had that right hand on his chest all the time that it was in sight
00:10:44Maybe if it hadn't been hurt pretty badly why it might have run on all four legs
00:10:49I don't know but it wasn't it was running on two legs at all times
00:10:54That was about all I saw of the thing
00:10:59Something came through here last night kill my two prize show
00:11:03Found one of them lying right here deep gashes and cuts in your tongue was hanging out looked like something
00:11:09It's strangling. I keep them down off down here and by the creek in this pen and
00:11:15Whatever it was got in the pen lifted both them 200 pound hogs over the fence
00:11:20I couldn't find no place where they've been dragged under it. I
00:11:23Couldn't find no tracks. I figured whatever it was came and left traveling up and down that Creek
00:11:29Not knowing what he'd kill them hogs
00:11:31I just threw him away. I carried him way off out there in the bushes. So the smell wouldn't get back up the house there
00:11:39Next day got up and looked out there and thought it kind of funny not seen any buzzards circling or anything
00:11:46So came down here and both hogs were gone
00:11:51That thing whatever it was must have come back and the grass wasn't even disturbed where the hogs was
00:11:57What kind of thing can pick up 200-pound hogs and walk off with them?
00:12:09I doubt if you could find a lonelier spookier place in this country than down around Boggy Creek
00:12:17It twists and winds its way across the falc countryside
00:12:22widening and narrowing
00:12:24Sheltering within its thickly wooded banks a multitude of creatures that run fly swim
00:12:31creep and crawl
00:12:34Eventually boggy empties in today's Creek and flows onward into the sulfur River
00:12:41heavy rain and
00:12:43Fall half the year causes our creeks and rivers to flood and and spread over wide sections of densely
00:12:50thicketed and forested bottom land
00:12:55In the sulfur River bottoms the water spreads out for miles across the bottom land a
00:13:02lot of which is so
00:13:03densely thicketed that only a few hunters and trappers have the skill to manage the water
00:13:10Hunters and trappers have the skill to make their way deep into this wild swampy country
00:13:20A lot of people believe the creature prowls back in here most of the time but every now and then
00:13:27Drawn to civilization like a moth to flame
00:13:31It creeps out about dusk
00:13:33These
00:13:39Nighttime visits have set off waves of terror around Falk for over 15 years
00:13:46What in the world is this creature? Where did he come from? And what does he eat our questions?
00:13:53I've heard discussed a thousand times around winter fires and on hot summer evenings
00:14:00When the creature whom the newspapers quickly named the Falk monster was first seen
00:14:06He didn't seem to make any special effort to hide from people
00:14:10At least Fred Crabtree a farmer who hunted a lot had that opinion
00:14:30You
00:14:40Just didn't look like anything I'd ever seen I
00:14:44Thought at first might be some kind of a wild man I couldn't tell all that hair just what it was
00:14:51Change my shells and shotgun
00:14:55squirrel shot
00:14:56to my buckshot
00:15:00Or for my protection anything else I'd have had my rifle I
00:15:05Believe I could have knocked him down easy
00:15:08But I doubt if I would have
00:15:10But I kept thinking it's just a chance
00:15:13Might be a man and if I'd have shot that thing it turned out to be a man
00:15:18I'd have had to live with the rest of my life
00:15:23Although he was never sure
00:15:25Fred got the impression the creature had been washing his feet in the icy water a
00:15:34Few months later
00:15:36James Crabtree was squirrel hunting only a short distance from the spot where Fred Crabtree had seen him
00:15:44I've spent a lot of my life in these woods and there was something strange about that evening that I
00:15:51Couldn't put my finger on it. It was just a feeling I had
00:15:55There didn't seem to be as many birds and little small animals out as usual. In fact, they they seem mighty scarce
00:16:26You
00:16:43It stepped right out in plain sight right right out there in front of me
00:16:47And he was it was some kind of thing that I've never come across
00:16:52well, he stared at me for a little while and
00:16:55He just slipped out of sight. I
00:16:58Never saw him again
00:17:00Neither Fred Crabtree nor his uncle James told anyone about their experience for years. They figured nobody would believe them
00:17:11He always travels the creeks that was one of the first things we figured out
00:17:19This little branch feeds into Boggy Creek
00:17:24The Searcy family lives here
00:17:26Mary Beth Searcy is a teenage student right now her older married sister and her baby are visiting
00:17:32Her father is working in another town and her younger brother is spending the night with a friend
00:17:38So this evening just the two girls their mother and the baby will be alone in this house
00:17:43They have no phone and the nearest neighbor is a mile or so across the woods
00:18:13I
00:18:43I
00:19:13I
00:19:43I
00:20:05Mary Beth
00:20:07Mary Beth, would you please hang something over the window? There's a draft on the baby
00:20:11Yeah, okay just a minute
00:20:41I
00:21:11I
00:21:33Mary Beth, would you please hurry up this drafts gonna give the baby a cold? Okay, okay
00:21:41I
00:22:11I
00:22:33It was a long night of terror
00:22:36In a few minutes Mary Beth was revived and the three women
00:22:40Shaking in fear freezing at every sound in the darkness
00:22:45Waited out the long hours of blackness
00:22:48The baby slept peacefully through it all next morning. They would discover their dead kitten
00:22:57Completely unmarked apparently she had simply been scared to death
00:23:03The
00:23:06Beauty of the bottoms under soft moonlight is transformed into dark menacing danger and the shadows of the night
00:23:14Trigger your imagination into being places where possibly the creature is lurking
00:23:20Because you know, he's out there
00:23:23somewhere
00:23:33I
00:24:03I
00:24:16If like this 13 year old boy you've grown up as a woodsman and hunter
00:24:22You never miss an opportunity to get yourself a deer
00:24:33Yes, there's no doubt about it the dogs are hot on the trail chasing the deer in this direction
00:25:03I
00:25:33I
00:26:03I
00:26:05I
00:26:07I
00:26:30Later they found two-inch saplings broken down by the creature in his pain and fury
00:26:35They saw crushed underbrush and bloodstains which in the excitement no one thought to gather a sample
00:26:41But they did not find the creature
00:26:45the terrifying stories of face-to-face encounters with a creature triggered the folk community into action a
00:26:53Big hunt was organized with some of the best hunting dogs in Arkansas and Texas involved
00:26:58They even brought in some famous dogs from Tennessee
00:27:01I got to go along and I still vividly recall how I was trembling with excitement
00:27:07We had heard that earlier some other dogs
00:27:09Refused to trail the creature
00:27:11Cowing in fear and running back at the first whiff of his sour pigpen smell, but we were confident
00:27:17Our dogs would get the job done
00:27:32Boy he's he's out of that
00:27:44This one old Henry
00:28:02While several groups hunted on foot others scouted designated areas on horseback
00:28:19While we made our way along the dirt road he had been crossing the men on horseback swept across the woodlands along the creek areas
00:29:02I
00:29:22About this time our dog struck his trail where he crossed the road
00:29:32You've never seen a more embarrassed and angry group of dog owners
00:29:37Not a one of these famous hunting dogs would trail the creature sent
00:29:43wind
00:29:44Tucked their tails and came running back obviously scared. I
00:29:48Was sure disappointed
00:30:01I
00:30:16Despite the failure of the dogs to trail the creature several groups of hunters kept going far into the night
00:30:22Later we got word that one hunting party had got the creature to scream angrily back at a wounded rabbit call
00:30:29But moved deeper into the forest when they tried to get closer
00:30:52I
00:31:09Not too many of the hunters were interested in plunging into thick woods in pitch darkness knowing he was out there
00:31:17Often I've tried to imagine how the creature must feel
00:31:22Since his very appearance and the sounds he makes frightened us
00:31:26Our immediate reaction was to try to kill him. I
00:31:30Suppose if a strange looking creature from another world showed up, he'd get the same reception
00:31:37Actually at first the creature didn't try to harm anybody
00:31:41But now after being hunted and hurt he suddenly disappeared
00:31:46So far as we know he wasn't seen again for eight years
00:31:51Where did he go?
00:31:53Well, we believe he simply headed back deeper and deeper into the bottoms beyond the reach of men
00:32:01only the alligator and wolf
00:32:03crane and possum and a thousand other wild animals
00:32:07Crane and possum and a thousand other wild creatures
00:32:12Heard his occasional
00:32:14lonely cries
00:32:16Ringing out over his watery domain
00:32:23This is where the story plays a world on which we seldom gaze a page from the book of yesterday's
00:32:32birds and beasts and wind and water
00:32:35Here beneath the bright blue sky
00:32:38No man smoke blinds the eagle's eye and things that crawl or swim or fly
00:32:45feed and breed and live and die
00:33:04The
00:33:13Seasons past
00:33:17Summers into Falls
00:33:19winters into Springs
00:33:22And somewhere in the remote wilderness of the bottoms
00:33:27The creature spent his days
00:33:35Here
00:33:45The Sulphur River flows
00:33:48Rising when the storm cloud blows and this is where the creature goes
00:33:54safe within the world he knows
00:33:57Perhaps he dimly wonders why
00:34:00There is no other such as I
00:34:02Touch to love before I die to listen to my lonely cry
00:34:32I
00:35:03You
00:35:16Now none of us Falk boys would admit it
00:35:19But for a long time knowing the creature might be around had put a damper on our pack trips back into the wilderness
00:35:27But as time passed and stories and conversation about the Falk monster died down
00:35:32Teenage boys again began to go off on long camping trips in the bottoms
00:35:37Travis crab trees the kind of fearless outdoor kid that would have gone anyway, even knowing the creature was around
00:35:44There's nothing Travis likes better than to spend the weekend camping on one of the hilltop islands created by high water
00:35:51deep in the bottom land
00:36:02A
00:36:04Travis crab tree
00:36:08Wait a minute
00:36:13Let's go back in the bottom
00:36:17Back where the fish are biting
00:36:21Where all the world's invited
00:36:26Nobody sees the flowers blue me
00:36:32Hey
00:36:39Hey Travis crab tree
00:36:43Do you see what I see
00:36:47On the gentle winds of morning a
00:36:52Million birds are singing
00:36:56Like the bells of heaven ringing
00:36:59And nobody sees the flowers bloom with me
00:37:08Drop me on a patch of land
00:37:12Never stepped upon my
00:37:16With a crystal water flows deep while the Falcon flies high across the yellow-eyed sky
00:37:24Lord, ain't it great to be free?
00:37:29Hey Travis crab tree
00:37:33It's the right life for me
00:37:39Alone in the bottom
00:37:43While the birds and beasts are crying
00:37:47Because the Sun is dying
00:37:52Nobody sees the flowers
00:37:58And nobody sees the flowers blue me
00:38:06And nobody sees the flowers blue me
00:38:25When he's down in the bottoms
00:38:27Travis always stops off for a visit and a cup of coffee with Herb Jones
00:38:31Herb Jones is a man who likes a lot of privacy
00:38:35He's been living alone in these bottoms for the past 20 years
00:38:57Oh
00:38:59Oh
00:39:22Travis always enjoys these visits with herb and never fails to bring him tobacco and other supplies
00:39:29Herb can spin yarns for hours about his experiences with the wild creatures of the bottom land
00:39:35Herb tells Travis to be on the lookout for a big old wild boar with double-curled tusks. He spotted a day or two earlier
00:39:43Herb limps because he once accidentally shot part of his foot away in a boating accident
00:39:48Although he was all alone. He made it out of the bottoms to a doctor
00:39:59I've been living down here by myself for a long time
00:40:04About 14 miles of a boat from my place to the nearest road
00:40:09And it's a pretty good walk to town
00:40:12them crab tree boys
00:40:15Especially at Travis always drop by to see me when they come on fishing
00:40:21They always bring me tobacco and sugar and stuff like that. Even a bottle of wine every once in a while
00:40:30Did you notice my my bottle tree on the way in I use them bottles as floats on my chart lines I
00:40:39Catch a mighty big catfish and buffalo on them lines
00:40:44Here an old crane flies over every day
00:40:50Looks at my place. I
00:40:53Don't know what he's looking for
00:40:56I
00:40:57Want you you get to know the bottom you never like for something to do people
00:41:04Always ask me why I stay down here. I
00:41:08Tell him I stay cause I like it better here. I would anywhere else
00:41:14Looks like they could figure that out for themselves
00:41:20Another thing
00:41:22People always ask me
00:41:25Have I seen the folk monster?
00:41:28Let me tell you something. They ain't no such thing
00:41:33I've been living here in these bottoms were better in 20 years. I
00:41:39Never seen or heard no monster
00:41:48What was that I don't know but let's get out of here
00:41:56I
00:42:16The creature was back once again the lure of civilization had brought him out of the wilderness
00:42:55The folk monster and people would get together around folk to relate the latest rumors on the creature
00:43:02Every dead animal found in the forest was blamed upon him
00:43:07This dog and others found dead might well be his victims
00:43:11Excitement in the community reached a new peak when a farmer named OH Kennedy
00:43:16Discovered these strange three-toed footsteps in Willie Smith's bean field
00:43:21Radio newspaper and television coverage resulted in nationwide publicity
00:43:29Mr. Kennedy, you say you found these tracks late Sunday. Now was that late yesterday afternoon?
00:43:36Yes, sir. Just for sundown my wife and I went out for a ride
00:43:41She's been feeling poorly lately and we decided to stop by the bean field to see if the grounds too wet to plow
00:43:48We call Willie Smith's right away. Mr. Kennedy. Do you do you think this creature could be a Sasquatch?
00:43:57Sasquatch I don't believe I know what that is
00:44:00Well, the Sasquatch was a Indian's word for a legendary giant tribe of very shy people
00:44:06They live mostly in the woods up in the Pacific Northwest
00:44:10well, I
00:44:12Didn't see anybody
00:44:13All I've seen says he strikes well now doesn't the Sasquatch have a normal five toes
00:44:19This thing here has only three toes
00:44:22Yes, and the adult Sasquatch footprint is bigger too is 18 inches long on the average. Could these be gorilla tracks?
00:44:28No
00:44:29I don't think it's a gorilla
00:44:30Gorilla has five toes and very seldom moves upright on two legs for very long
00:44:35This thing had to drop down on all fours to travel this far
00:44:39What about a orangutan?
00:44:42This is the same thing people around here reported seeing over the past few years
00:44:47He's reddish brown
00:44:49That's the same color as orangutan. Well, I don't think this could be orangutan the number of the toes are wrong
00:44:58Excuse me. Mr. Kennedy. You spent a lot of time working in this field, right?
00:45:03Did you ever see tracks like this any here before?
00:45:06No, sir
00:45:08Can't say as I have
00:45:10There's a lot of fresh animal tracks around this field all the time of deer and wolf bobcat and all kinds of other tracks
00:45:16But I never seen anything like these before
00:45:19Well, mr. Kennedy, did you ever hear anything out of the ordinary down here?
00:45:25well, I've
00:45:27Heard some pretty peculiar things out here, but I never seen anything unusual out of this before. I
00:45:33Wonder what moves the creature to pick a particular patch of woods and return to it again and again
00:45:40These woods next to the bean field must be one of his favorite haunts
00:45:48More than what I heard I guess it was what I didn't hear that made it kind of spooky
00:45:54Even when that tractors running and you can't hear nothing you get a funny feeling that
00:46:00something's wrong
00:46:02And I I think wasn't sure but I think I'd hear a low growl or a hoot or grunt or something from the back end
00:46:09of trees and
00:46:11And you know, there's something out there's watching you
00:46:13And I do you know, there's some kind of animal hanging around this field. All right
00:46:18And he ain't no animal that from this part of the country
00:46:23He always travels Boggy Creek
00:46:32I
00:47:02I
00:47:32I
00:47:39That's Bessie Smith's children playing at the edge of the woods over there where Kennedy heard the creature
00:48:02If you don't be quiet we'll get a switch
00:48:32Oh
00:49:02Oh
00:49:32Oh
00:49:34Oh
00:49:56That's Charlie Walraven coming down the road
00:49:59This road runs along the north side of the woods
00:50:03Here's long about dark eyes hidden in the town that evening
00:50:07I've seen this thing come out across the road in front of my car. I
00:50:14Just couldn't even believe what I was watching
00:50:21You know, I reckon there's a lot of folks that don't believe anything till they see it for themselves
00:50:27Of course if they like me, maybe they'd be wishing they hadn't seen what to do
00:50:32You know that thing gonna kill somebody one of these days sure as a world
00:50:38On a bright moonlight night like this one
00:50:40You'd figure he'd stay out of sight, but nothing seems to worry him when the urge to prowl comes over him
00:50:48It could have been a fatal mistake if the man who lives here had been home tonight
00:50:52He has a high-powered rifle handy and knows how to use it
00:50:56His daughter Nancy has invited two girlfriends over for a bunking party
00:51:02Our team's much better in Arkansas, huh? You know that Arkansas, huh? I know but they're defensive. Yeah, but look at their offensive
00:51:11Nancy I like the way they cut your hair. I think it's cute. Well Frank liked it long
00:51:16He's been sulking all week. Now. Don't pay any attention to him. He doesn't know anything about it
00:51:24Did y'all hear something
00:51:28That's the winds
00:51:32I
00:51:48Can't see anything. Do you know I don't see anything then it must have been the wind. I
00:51:58Hope
00:52:00Let's all have a coke do y'all want one? Yeah, get me one. Yeah
00:52:21Nancy there's somebody moving around outside this trailer
00:52:24Do you do you think it could be some of the guys if it is I'll kill him I
00:52:30Can't believe it's them
00:52:32They went to that game in Texarkana
00:52:38Listen I
00:52:43Hear something breathing
00:52:54I
00:53:06Can hear it too
00:53:24I
00:53:55I don't hear it anymore. I don't either you still I'm gonna look out. No
00:54:02I
00:54:22Next morning when her parents returned they would find the girl still half hysterical with shock
00:54:28Before the creature finally wandered off he smashed flowerpots and overturned everything in sight
00:54:35These radical changes in his usually cautious behavior may be caused by lonely
00:54:41Frustration for he apparently is the only one of his kind
00:54:45Normally, he never comes out of the woods before dusk and then moves very cautiously
00:54:51Staying within quick return to the shelter of the trees, but tonight he's on the rampage
00:54:58I
00:55:12It wasn't the first time the creature had prowled in the vicinity of Howard Wall Ravens mobile home
00:55:18Which is located only a couple of hundred yards from where Boggy Creek flows across Highway 71
00:55:23We
00:55:25Heard him lots of nights
00:55:27sometimes it sounded like he was right outside the window it was so loud and
00:55:32I had my two good dogs
00:55:35I had tied up right there behind the house and they'd always get excited and scared, you know
00:55:40Whenever he'd come around we heard him, but I think I never figured he'd attack them
00:55:45It just looked to me like he grabbed my dog and ripped the hide right off his back
00:55:50Now let me tell you something
00:55:52He killed the finest dog that I ever had but I'm gonna get him one of these days and that's gonna be all she wrote
00:56:04Sometimes the creature sticks to one patch of woods for a long time then
00:56:09Impulsively works his way far up the creeks before being heard from again
00:56:15The creeks
00:56:17He always travels the creeks
00:56:20When he next showed up, it was several miles upstream
00:56:27In the spring this house was rented to two young couples who moved in together to save money
00:56:50They
00:57:06Were Charles Turner
00:57:09his wife Anne and
00:57:11Don Ford who was an Turner's brother and
00:57:16Don's wife Sue
00:57:18Each couple had a small child
00:57:21Don and Charles had just been hired by a big cattle ranch in the Falk area
00:57:26Since both men would be required to work late at night. The girls would be company to each other
00:57:39The two families moved in on Monday Thursday night the first of a series of hair raising incidents occurred
00:57:50I
00:58:20I
00:58:50I
00:59:16What's the matter
00:59:20I
00:59:50I
01:00:20I
01:00:22I
01:00:24I
01:00:52Don't know
01:00:53Let's take the kids and go to the landlord
01:01:23I
01:01:48Had a pretty good look around and I couldn't find the thing
01:01:51Are you sure you don't want to go back to my place to the men get here?
01:01:54No, no, that's okay. If you check and you're sure there's nothing here, then we'll be okay
01:01:59I think I couldn't find a thing but I'll come back in a little while and check on you. Okay. Listen, mr
01:02:05Johnson, we sure do thank you. We appreciate so much. Well, you're welcome. I'll wait here till you get in the house
01:02:21You
01:02:29The next day Friday the Fords and Turners had visitors Don Ford's younger brother Bobby Ford and a cousin 12 year old Corky
01:02:37Hill arrived for the weekend. They'd heard about the great fishing around Falk and were anxious to wet a hook
01:02:46Yeah, yeah, we're gonna bring back the supper
01:02:51I
01:03:21I
01:03:51Bobby who told you the fishing was good here. They're here. Just have faith
01:04:21Bobby come here. Come here
01:04:52What do you want
01:05:13Boy look at the size of that guy's footprint. That ain't no footprint
01:05:18That's funny what's so funny about that? He's only got three toes
01:05:32Well, it's getting kind of late and the fish aren't biting anyway, so I think we ought to go
01:05:38Sure, it's spooky down here
01:05:48I
01:06:18I
01:06:48I
01:07:18I
01:07:48I
01:08:10Think I hear something
01:08:18I
01:08:36Go get Annie and say
01:08:42You know, you know Bobby shorts up
01:08:48Oh my gosh back
01:08:53Heard something
01:09:00Is that him back it's gotta be
01:09:10Corky go get the kids
01:09:18I
01:09:32Say he's coming around the port Bobby put that chair under the door
01:09:48I
01:09:50I
01:10:17Think I heard a car
01:10:20I
01:10:50Don't talk at one time. I told you there's something funny about that footprint. I found I just told you there was
01:10:57Two nights, it's someone that's been around this house. I think
01:11:04Big we ought to go the landlords to get the gun. That would be a great idea
01:11:07Why don't you go down and get the gun? I'll stay here with them
01:11:20I
01:11:50I
01:12:20Don't get the light and we'll go see what this thing is
01:12:35He's out here let's get him down I'll look back here just
01:12:45Hey you are I
01:12:50What's that right there
01:12:54Is that him right there
01:12:57You better say something out there
01:13:00You better say something. Hey, man, I'm gonna shoot shoot him. He's not saying anything. Don't know don't know
01:13:06Do don't
01:13:20Get it, I don't know. Hey, I think you got it. I don't see a thing
01:13:25And you're not over here. I
01:13:28Don't see anything nothing out there either
01:13:33Hey, what let's do let's go get sure
01:13:37Hey
01:13:44We don't know we don't even know if we hit it yeah, he's going after the sheriff
01:13:48Hey, I'm gonna go with you
01:13:52Hurry back
01:14:18Oh
01:14:32Well best I could tell things you're tall and hair a little bit
01:14:37But anything constable not here
01:14:39This piece can't been off all time. No, sir. It hasn't have you looked in under there? No, sir. We haven't looked down there
01:14:48Here's a panther track and a little cub with it under this house, you mean a panthers been living in a house
01:14:54That's what it is. It's a panther track. That wasn't any panther. We shot at constable
01:15:01That's what that track is
01:15:03You keep this shotgun this light and these shells and and then if you need me, will you come back?
01:15:09Okay, sir
01:15:09We sure will and I'm gonna drive up the highway way and look to see if I can see anything
01:15:15Yeah, and I'll pick going up tomorrow sometime
01:15:20Thank you, sir, you're welcome if you need me give me a call. Okay, we sure will
01:15:34Well, we've got flashlights we got the guns now, let's all go to bed just rest I'm with you
01:15:40Come on
01:15:44Don't worry about it
01:16:14I
01:16:44I
01:17:14I
01:17:44I think I think he got it man. I think I saw him fall over. Let's go see
01:18:14Oh
01:18:39Will you go back and take care of the girls
01:18:44I
01:19:15I
01:19:23When Bobby could not be aroused from the state of shock he was in
01:19:26Everyone piled into the car and raced to constable Walraven's house for help
01:19:30Walraven took one look at Bobby arranged a police escort and sent them on to the hospital in Texarkana
01:19:44I
01:20:14I
01:20:44Bobby recovered swiftly and the Fords and Turners moved away. They don't plan on coming back
01:21:03What the creature was after inside the Ford house is perhaps the biggest mystery of all
01:21:14I
01:21:23Was thinking about it today when I decided to drive out to our old home place now run down and abandoned
01:21:30Standing out in this field. It all comes rushing back and an icy
01:21:35Tingle starts down my spine when I recall that
01:21:39terrible
01:21:40lonesome cry
01:21:44I
01:22:00It was so long ago that it seems incredible the creature is still out there
01:22:06Somewhere right this minute maybe even watching me
01:22:15Of
01:22:18Course you may not believe that or any of this story
01:22:23You may think the whole thing is a hoax and that's your privilege
01:22:31But if you're ever driving down in our country along about sundown
01:22:35Keep an eye on the dark woods as you cross the sulfur river bottoms and you may catch a glimpse of a huge hairy creature
01:22:44Watching you from the shadows
01:22:49Yes, he's still here and you know, I'd almost like to hear that terrible cry again
01:22:55Just to be reminded that there is still a bit of wilderness left
01:23:00And there are still mysteries that remain unsolved and strange unexplained noises in the night
01:23:13I
01:23:43This is where the story plays a world on which we seldom gaze
01:23:51page from the book of yesterday's
01:23:54birds and beasts and wind and water
01:23:58Here beneath the bright blue sky
01:24:00No man smoke blinds the eagle's eye
01:24:03And things that crawl or swim or fly
01:24:07feed and breed in live and die
01:24:13You
01:24:43Here the sulfur river flows rising when the storm cloud blows
01:25:10This is where the creature goes
01:25:14safe
01:25:18Perhaps he dimly wonders why is there no other such as I
01:25:26Touch to love before I die
01:25:35Where he searches where he goes this of course nobody knows
01:25:43But once you've heard his lonely cry
01:25:46You can guess the reason why
01:25:49Or whether he's a beast or man
01:25:53What drives him wandering across the land?
01:25:57There's love for others of his plan
01:26:01Loneliness he cannot stand
01:26:06He dimly wonders why
01:26:09Is there no other such as I?
01:26:14Love before I die
01:26:18My mom
01:26:43You
