00:00And he is back in this race, Richard Carapaz, reckoned with another name, he is not done yet,
00:08much more to come from Carapaz, that was a sensational victory, as we look down the road,
00:13see the size of the gap and watch the sprint for second place and Del Toro cruises over the line
00:18to take six seconds. Stage 12 and a rare opportunity for the fast men, the sprinters coming to the
00:27four in the 2025 Giro d'Italia for only the third time, really, a bunch sprint expected,
00:33and that despite the amount of climbing, 1,700 metres of altitude gain before the second half
00:39of the race would flatten out. Watt van Aert on domestic duty, leading out Oluf Coy later on
00:45for the stage win that he was hoping for. Kasper van Ouden and Caden Groves already with a stage
00:51win to their names. Isaac Del Toro in the pink jersey for a third day, the man from UAE to
00:57Emirates leading the Giro d'Italia, along with the man in the white jersey, Juan Ayuso. Those two
01:01riders, first and second on GC, hoping that the day would pass uneventfully. The flag dropping
01:07and a break getting up the road almost immediately. Team Polti visit Malta with Andrea Pietrabon,
01:13Joshua Epis from Arkea B&B Hotels and Manoeli Tarozzi, the three riders from VF group Bardiani.
01:21Those three riders then went through the first categorised climb of the day, with Tarozzi picking
01:26up nine points in the King of the Mountains competition, as three different teams controlled
01:30the break and kicked them on a very tight leash. Heading to the first sprint of the day,
01:36it was Andrea Pietrabon that out-sprinted Epis to take the maximum 12 points. And then the
01:41next point was the next category three climb, the climb to Borsella. And once again, it was
01:47Manoeli Tarozzi who went off in search of the maximum points. The time gap, just one minute
01:52and 30 seconds to the peloton. Tarozzi then added a further nine points and that was it
01:57for the categorised climbs of the day. On wet roads, the peloton descending and holding
02:02the gap at around about one minute and 19 seconds. Then heading towards the final sprint of the
02:09day, Epis managed to turn the table on Andrea Pietrabon and take the final sprint. A puncture
02:15for Juan Ayuso in the white jersey, who got back on fairly quickly. But the peloton came
02:22in very close then, holding the three riders at the front of the race at around about 10
02:26seconds as they approached the Red Bull Kilometre at Brascello. It was Andrea Pietrabon who just
02:33about held off the chase. Kim Heideck of Ineos Grenadiers swept up the second place and the
02:39Malia Rosa himself, Isaac del Toro, picked up a time bonus for third place. Then they
02:45hit the 26 kilometre circuit, taking the bell. With 10 kilometres to go then, the GC teams,
02:53along with the sprinters' trains, all over the front as the pace got ever higher towards
02:57the run-in and a critical left-hand turn. It was Wout van Aertz who had Olaf Koei on his
03:03wheel as they headed for that final turn. An immense lead-out from Wout van Aertz, who has done
03:08this so often in his career.
03:09He's in around about 10th place alongside Matteo Moschetti and still van Aertz on the front.
03:13What a lead-out this is. Koei on his wheel. Still van Aertz, 200 metres to go and Koei is almost
03:20dropped off the wheel of van Aertz. Now then, van Ouden opens up his sprint. It's Caden Gross
03:24down the middle, Mads Pedersen. Can Koei come off the wheel of van Ouden? Van Ouden to the line.
03:29Van Ouden doubles up as Koei though. Koei at the very last.
03:33Olaf Koei adds his name to the list of sprinters to taste victory in the 108th edition. A precise
03:42and brilliant sprint and an immense lead-out from Wout van Aertz. Good teamwork from Visma
03:47Lisebike once again and Olaf Koei, relieved and delighted for a second career stage victory
03:52at the Giro.
03:53It was a win ahead of Kasper van Ouden in second place and a good sprint from Ben Turner of
04:00Ineos Grenadiers to finish in third. Isaac del Toro adding a few seconds to his advantage
04:05over Juana Iuso in the general classification.
04:11Mads Pedersen losing a bit of ground in the Malia Ciclamino as Olaf Koei picked up 50 points
04:19at the finish line for his victory and a day in which Lorenzo Fortunato could hold on to
04:24his big lead in the King of the Mountains competition. Isaac del Toro continuing in white
04:30for another day, 33 seconds ahead of Juana Iuso in second.
