00:00It's been one month since the terror attack in Pahlgaam
00:02and the aftershocks are still shaking Kashmir's tourism industry.
00:05You can see yourself, we are on Dal Lake.
00:08Shikare is open, houseboats are open.
00:11Just a month ago, Kashmir was celebrating its tourism boom.
00:14The Union Territory Government proudly showcased a new Kashmir.
00:17Safe, prosperous and buzzing with millions of tourists.
00:20But today, those vibrant scenes feel like distant memories.
00:23Dal Lake, once alive with shikaras, full of visitors, is silent and deserted.
00:28It's been a waste of 3,000,000 days.
00:33Now, the government wants us to help us only.
00:37We can save our daily lives.
00:40And those who work here, they can save their daily lives.
00:43Many young Kashmiris had poor, their savings,
00:46and even taken heavy bank loans, betting on tourism's growth.
00:49Hotels were built, gardens leased, taxis bought,
00:52and now their futures hang by a thread.
00:54The boats, the taxis, all are sitting here, sir.
00:59So, the world is full of hope.
01:03Everyone is waiting for tourists.
01:06Local tourism bodies have desperately reached out to Umar Abdullah's government,
01:09trying to find solutions.
01:10But the cries for a solid tourism revival roadmap remain unanswered.
01:14Many complain.
01:15The center, meanwhile, is focusing on security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
01:20Frustrated and worried, Kashmiri tourism stakeholders have taken matters into their own hands in a way.
01:25They are organizing roadshows and campaigns to change the perception that Kashmir is unsafe.
01:30They have one clear message for Prime Minister Modi.
01:32Tell the nation that Kashmir is safe.
01:35A direct assurance from the center, they say, could turn things around for them.
01:38From the silent Dishat Garden to the quiet Dal Lake,
01:41Kashmir today waits anxiously for tourists, for support, for normalcy.
01:45I'm Manish Adhikari.
01:47First things fast.
