00:03pledge to boost cooperation and security and the economy,

00:08Botswana has called for Brussels to lead more strategic investments in the country.

00:13Speaking to Euronews, Botswana's foreign minister, Peniel Butale,

00:17said his country is open for business.

00:20Botswana has been enjoying excellent relations with the EU

00:24and we believe that there is room for us and Europe and Belgium

00:31to reimagine these relations and ensure that we improve our trade

00:39and ensure that Botswana and Europe benefit mutually from this relationship.

00:46Butale's call for more trade and investment with the EU

00:50comes amid a 37% trade tariff imposed by the Trump administration on Botswana,

00:56one of the hardest-hit nations in Africa.

00:59The country's economy, which is reliant on diamond exports,

01:02contracted last year by 3.1% due to weak global demand.

01:08Once regarded as one of the world's fastest-growing economies,

01:11Botswana is, however, optimistic after a forecast

01:15suggests an expected 3.3% growth this year.

01:19Confronted by the Trump administration's trade tariffs,

01:23the world's leading producer of diamonds

01:25wants to deepen bilateral trade and strategic partnership

01:29with the European Union.
