00:00South Sudan has been cited as the potential destination of eight convicted immigrants the United States wants to deport from its territory.
00:07An action which a U.S. federal judge said on Wednesday was unlawful, as the immigrants were given no opportunity to object to their deportation, putting them in danger.
00:17Recent months have seen South Sudan itself descend into a state of further escalation and conflict.
00:25And people in this region will not expect that the United States would actually be sending potential aliens that they deem to be unfit to send the United States to South Sudan from a place that's relatively peaceful, that's the United States, to a place that clearly may not exactly be safe for those who are being deported.
00:53And this may constitute a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
01:01In recent months, South Sudan has experienced a political rivalry between its president and a former vice president that has led the country to being on the brink of a new civil war.
01:11At a time when South Sudan has descended into a conflict spiral that has claimed many lives and displaced tens of thousands, I think that action is not only hypocritical, but extremely dangerous.
01:29And it sets an extremely dangerous president when it comes to international peace and security, but also when it comes to respecting the rights of refugees, not just in the United States, but all over the world.
01:43For now, the U.S. government has refused to disclose the destination of the plane with the deported immigrants on board.
01:51If South Sudan is the confirmed destination of the plane, this would mean that people from Vietnam, Mexico and elsewhere are being sent to a nation they have no link to.
02:00In recent months, the Trump administration has increasingly put pressure on South Sudan to take in its deportees.
