The U.S. and Philippine coast guards have held their first joint drills in strategic waters off the Philippines' coast. A U.S. Navy cutter and surveillance plane also participated in the drills, along with Manila's navy and air force. The drills come as China and the Philippines have clashed over disputed features in the South China Sea on multiple occasions in recent months.
