Bega Police station will help streamline the process of solving crime on the Far South Coast.
Transcript
00:00We're now standing in the foyer area of a two-storey police station, a brand new police station, which is nearing completion.
00:07It will be a police station which is state-of-the-art when it comes to being modern, being comfortable and housing the right technology.
00:16We heard the Minister speak to the big change of forensic services being housed in this local area.
00:22Not only the police, but having the capabilities there for them to do the great work that they do to identify evidence, to analyse evidence, and more importantly, the quicker turnaround to identify who the offenders are responsible for some of these former serious crimes.
00:39We've got the Traffic and Highway Patrol here. We've got the technology able to support them.
00:44We've got police prosecution. They've got their local area there.
00:48It connects them a little bit closer to the Bateman and Spade prosecutors if there is additional support that needs to be moved around.
00:55We've got domestic violence officer locations up there, again, that we'll be able to provide greater service and support to the local community.
01:04Certainly going to improve our response that we provide to the local community, and that's what it's all about.
01:10That's why we joined the New South Wales Police Force, to service our local community.
01:14When they walk into the stations, they are going to have the comforts of rooms where they can be interviewed, the appropriate privacy, appropriate locations where they can gather their thoughts as best as they can, and give our local police the evidence that they require to move forward.
01:30And then we talk about emergency management.
01:32I mean, we are standing at a location which is one of the most southern points of not only my region, but the state of New South Wales.
01:40I mean, you only have to go back a number of years, and we talk about one of the worst bushfires that we've experienced in history.
01:47It cut off the south coast from the rest of the state.
01:51There are only a certain number of strip roads that you can get to this location.
01:55What we see now is the most modern police station down this end of town.
01:59So when we talk about keeping connected to whether it's me at the region or whether it's the SEEOC or the SEEOCON, we've got the technology up there where we can do hourly teams meetings.
02:12We can see people that we're talking to.
02:15We can share information visually.
02:18And more most importantly, we can get the support resources we need to, by other means, down to this location when it's required.
02:25So we are in a very happy place when I talk as the New South Wales Police Force.
02:30It's all about enhancing our capability, and this is just a plumb example of that.
02:36I thank the community for their patience.
02:38There has been a delay, and we know that that was to a couple of factors.
02:43Obviously, we had experienced a large amount of rain, and we've got that back again.
02:48But in addition to that, of course, the company who were building this collapsed.
02:54And I also would like to thank Patterson's and Downer for making sure that our wonderful police station here in Vega becomes a reality.
03:05We hope to have our police in this building by the end of the year.
03:10So all going well.
03:12We'll be back again.
03:14Michael and I will be down here again, and we'll see the finished product.
03:16And that's a very exciting proposition in itself.
03:19This new facility will provide outstanding policing for the Vega Valley shire and surrounds.
03:28In addition to our general duties police officers that will be here, we'll also have highway patrol.
03:35We'll have domestic violence, we'll have forensics.
03:40The forensics unit will be second to none.
03:43It's state-of-the-art technology that will be here, and it will increase the speed of which evidence can be processed.
03:51So this will become the southern hub for forensics, for policing in New South Wales.
03:57It's very exciting to see that, and to have that main community right here in Vega.
04:05Well, goody.
