00:00Football fans are now a step closer to being able to watch Justin Jefferson and Patrick Mahomes play in a competitive flag football game.
00:08On Tuesday, NFL owners approved a resolution allowing NFL players to participate in flag football at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
00:16Here's what you need to know.
00:18The 32 teams will let one of their players play on each country's team, according to the resolution.
00:23Flag football will be played at the 2028 games for the first time, and it's a little different than standard NFL setup and rules.
00:30Each team will have 10 players total, and 5 players from each team can take the field at a time.
00:35The field is also smaller than a regulation NFL field, coming in at 70 by 25 yards, including 10 yards per end zone.
00:43Teams will start at their own 5-yard line and have 4 downs to make it halfway down the field, which effectively acts as a first down line.
00:50The team will have 4 more downs to score a touchdown if they make it to half.
00:55And of course, a down ends when a flag is removed from a player, or they step out of bounds, or a pass is incomplete.

01:16Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson spoke at the announcement of the resolution.
01:21You know, just think about the chances of, you know, playing in the Olympics and, you know, getting a gold medal is a dream.
01:31Chief star Patrick Mahomes has also expressed interest in competing, but of course he will face stiff competition from other quarterbacks who undoubtedly will be interested in representing the country.
01:41For some of the more athletic quarterbacks when I get out there, I could be a coach.
01:45If you get a gold medal, I could be a coach.
01:47The U.S. already has a flag football team that will compete in the 2024 Flag Football World Championship in August.
01:53The team will certainly be facing competition from NFL stars to make it to the Olympic team.
