00:00Grazie a tutti.
00:30Benvenuto, caro Presidente.
00:42You are the president of a founding member of our union.
00:48Outside, Mr. President, I showed you the table,
00:51how the college looked like in 1976.
00:55And it's a stark difference how much the union has grown
00:59when you enter this room here, in contrast to that.
01:02You are the longest-serving president of the Italian Republic.
01:06But today, we welcome you here not only as a statesman,
01:11but also as a European at heart.
01:16Throughout your life, you have always worked
01:19to put Italy at the center of Europe.
01:22In your very first speech as president, 10 years ago,
01:27you called our union a safe harbor and a frontier of hope.
01:33You said that European countries need our union
01:37to protect and project their sovereignty in the world.
01:42And ever since, you have always called on Europe to be ambitious
01:46and to aim higher.
01:48You have demanded strong action on competitiveness,
01:52in line with the Draghi and Letta reports.
01:54It's exactly the topic that we have discussed today
01:56in our college meeting.
01:59You have reminded us of our responsibility to protect nature
02:04and to leave the world a better place
02:07for our children and grandchildren.
02:10And you have been unwavering in your support for Ukraine.
02:15Two weeks ago, you said,
02:17Nesundorma.
02:19We have heard your call.
02:22And today, we will discuss how we can respond to it.
02:27On a personal note, Mr. President,
02:29I'd like to recall one of our meetings in your hometown of Palermo.
02:36I was struck by how warmly you were welcomed by everyone,
02:41especially the young people.
02:44Young Italians, look up to you
02:45because you've always been a voice of wisdom
02:50and a point of reference.
02:53And I want you to know this is true for all Europeans.
02:55It's an honor and a pleasure to have you here today.
02:58Thank you very much, Mr. President, for coming.
03:01And the floor is yours.
