00:00Do we know what actually prompted the sort of furious reaction we saw from Denzel Washington?

00:06Well, from what we can tell from, and this is only the footage that's appeared online,

00:09he was twice tapped by a paparazzi.

00:12Now, it was at a red carpet event.

00:14Denzel Washington didn't react well the first time,

00:16and then upon the second tap decided to come to blows with this particular journalist

00:22who was there on the red carpet to take pictures for the Cannes Film Festival.

00:26Denzel Washington seemed to, and again, there's no audio along with this,

00:28so we're just lip-reading at the moment,

00:30seemed to have then completely lost his patience and said,

00:33hey, hey, one more time, don't put your hands on me again.

00:36So it suggests it's just about the cameras flashing, maybe.

00:39There might be something else in there as well.

00:40It's the physical contact that seems to have been the issue here

00:42because he directly referenced having hands laid upon him while he was on the red carpet.

00:47It may have been a slight overreaction,

00:49and I think a lot of the media is saying today that this seems like an overreaction,

00:53especially when he's at a film festival to promote a movie that he is in.

00:58Yet he seems to have taken umbrage with this particular photographer

01:03which I imagine was probably more enraged into the situation.

01:06On initially viewing the video, I actually thought that they may have been friends,

01:09and there was some sort of a back-and-forth banter going on.

01:12It turns out that this was not the case.

01:14So what prompted it?

01:15Having hands laid upon him seems to be the issue.

01:17And this is, I think, maybe the third time we've seen an altercation

01:20from Denzel Washington with a member of the press over a similar incident.
