00:00Every time I do glam, I just put a lot of lotion on one of my legs only, and then I rub them together.
00:11Normally when Mark does my hair, he puts my bangs up in this tiny little garlic knot right on my forehead.
00:23We're not doing that today because it looks insane.
00:25The first thing I did when I got to Cannes on Saturday was I went and surprised Jennifer Lawrence at her after-party for her movie.
00:36Was she thrilled to see you?
00:38No.
00:39She was like, stop following me.
00:43That's why I'm here.
00:48This is Georgie, eyes down, my makeup artist.
00:52I love my life.
00:53And my soulmate.
00:57And this is Marky Mark Townsend.
01:01My hair designer.
01:05Cool.
01:07Mark has been doing my hair for how long, Mark?
01:0912 years.
01:10And Georgie and I have been working together for like six years.
01:13I'm a mega fan.
01:14I only work with people that are obsessed with me.
01:19I only hire people that stalk me, that are just like outside my hotel all the time.
01:28Outside my house all the time.
01:29Georgie's always outside my house.
01:31Oh, and this is Kate.
01:32Who's halfway dressed for the premiere.
01:35When did you put that on?
01:37In the bathroom just now.
01:38You look fabulous.
01:39Yeah, so fresh.
01:41I've never been to Cannes, right?
01:44I don't believe you have.
01:44Hello?
01:45I've never been here with you.
01:46I've never been here with you.
01:47Okay.
01:47Then I've never been here.
01:48Because I'm always with them.
01:50But I'm excited.
01:51It's fun to have a movie here that I produced.
01:53Well, it would suck if people didn't like it.
01:57But that happens.
01:59And you move on.
02:01Quickly.
02:02Georgie.
02:03You want me to change robes?
02:05That would be lovely.
02:06Be right back.
02:08Please.
02:12So many times with Dakota we go from like a more second day texture.
02:16Kind of a lived in texture.
02:18But today we want to do something really, really sleek.
02:20A little more polished.
02:21So we're going to go very straight, very, very shiny.
02:24And show off all of that gorgeous hair.
02:26Because it's all hers.
02:27So today we kind of wanted to, we were tapping into the editorial we did recently.
02:32Where it was really light, really fresh.
02:36Really kind of a pinched cheek moment.
02:38And it's so beautiful and sunny here.
02:39So we wanted to kind of, you know, it's sunny, it's Cannes.
02:42So we're going to be sunny and fresh.
02:44I still need this car.
02:45I was having my moment on camera.
02:47She was.
02:48Last night's dinner was good.
02:53Nicole Kidman gave a really wonderful speech.
02:56And she looked like she wasn't nervous at all.
02:59Which is amazing because I get so nervous speaking on stage.
03:04Do you?
03:04Mm-hmm.
03:05I have crazy stage fright.
03:07What about when you're filming a film?
03:11No.
03:11Not at all.
03:13It's like a cartoon.
03:14Like my knees wobble.
03:16Oh, yeah.
03:17What did you say about the makeup, Georgie?
03:19We said that it's going to be gorgeous.
03:23And there's going to be, we're kind of departing from what we normally do.
03:27And we tried something new the other day on an editorial and it worked.
03:33Mm-hmm.
03:34And this way.
03:34So we're going to whack it on a red carpet and see what happens.
03:38Oh, that's scary.
03:39Should it be not?
03:40But we're going to do what we did just with more mascara because you just need mascara in life.
03:45It does change when she puts something else on.
03:49The clothes kind of do it for her.
03:51So I don't always have to.
03:52But we do, I mean, we might darken a lip or we'll pop an eyeliner on or extend the brow more or something like that.
04:00Mm-hmm.
04:00Or more mascara because there's always room for more mascara.
04:07Fashion has actually kind of always been a personal thing for me.
04:11I refused to let anyone dress me when I was a kid.
04:17And I put together some of the most outrageous looks.
04:23You ready for this?
04:24I hope you are.
04:28I'm wearing a mesh vest that has bows and baubles sewn into it.
04:35And then I was just kind of always into clothes.
04:38I was always going into my mom's closet, trying on her gowns from premieres and things.
04:43When I did Black Mass, the movie that Scott Cooper directed with Johnny Depp, I wore these jeans that were tailored to my body.
04:52They were a vintage pair of Levi's, but we tailored them.
04:56They were amazing.
04:56And that was pretty cool because it was a period film.
05:01So all the clothes were like late 60s.
05:04I think tonight in Cannes, it might very well be another moment.
05:11I'm so in love with this dress.
05:13I can't believe I get to wear that dress.
05:15I guess the thing that makes me choose a dress for a carpet, I have to feel good in it.
05:24Like this one is quite heavy as well.
05:28But it's really worth it.
05:29I think Dakota often looks best in super simple dresses because she's so beautiful.
05:36Her body's so beautiful.
05:38It doesn't like require a lot of distraction.
05:41It's Gucci.
05:42It's all beaded and it's two layers of fringe.
05:46So there's a little bit, you know, like the way it reads, there's like a little bit of architecture
05:50because there's like three levels.
05:52Underneath this, it's sequins.
05:54You see there's like baby pink paillettes under and then these like fringes that some
06:00of them are silk and some of them are beaded.
06:02So there's a lot of depth.
06:03And I really like sparkles here because I think the reason Cannes red carpet looks good
06:08is because it's natural light at the beach.
06:10Like the light's really sparkly and like real, where often it's flat light and you're on a
06:17step and repeat and it's just like harsh flash.
06:20Here it makes everything glitter, like especially.
06:23So if you use sparkles, it really goes there, which is fun.
06:27Dakota wore a fringe Gucci dress in Venice a few years ago.
06:30That was like one of the best.
06:32We love that dress.
06:33I want people to say, wow.
06:36You know, I mean, there's a whole audience when she gets out of the car.
06:40I want to hear that French sound where they go.
06:42Whoa.
06:44Because it's not an American wow, actually.
06:47They're like, whoa.
06:47I remember I was one time at the red carpet and Brad Pitt got out of my car and there
06:53was like this thunderous, like, I want that.
06:57Let's go.
07:08I have these gorgy diamonds.
07:16They are, it seems like they're leaves, I guess.
07:23And then this one is like a big teardrop.
07:26I'm not telling a story.
07:28I'm just wearing a dress.
07:30It's beautiful.
07:32I feel lucky that I get to wear it.
07:35And whatever story you want to make up in your mind, that's the right one.
07:41That's okay.
07:42Pain is beauty.
07:43Am I right?
07:46Beauty is pain.
07:48Pain is beauty.
07:49That's my version.
07:51I'm an actress.
07:55We're about to go to the premiere.
07:57I'm late, per usual.
07:58And I feel very, very excited.
08:05I'm really proud of tea time.
08:07Thank you, Vogue, for being here with me tonight.
