00:00The people that love our country, in the campaign, I promised the American people that I would build a cut-in-edge missile defense shield to protect our homeland from the threat of foreign missile attack.
00:12And that's what we're doing.
00:14Today, I'm pleased to announce that we have officially selected an architecture for this state-of-the-art system that will deploy next-generation technologies across the land, sea, and space, including space-based sensors and interceptors.
00:28And Canada has called us, and they want to be a part of it, so we'll be talking to them.
00:34They want to have protection also.
00:37So, as usual, we help Canada do the best we can.
00:40This design for the Golden Dome will integrate with our existing defense capabilities and should be fully operational before the end of my term.
00:49So we'll have it done in about three years.
00:52Once fully constructed, the Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles, even if they are launched from other sides of the world, and even if they are launched from space.
01:04And we will have the best system ever built.
01:07As you know, we helped Israel with theirs, and it was very successful.
01:12And now we have technology that's even far advanced from that, but including hypersonic missiles, ballistic missiles, and advanced cruise missiles, all of them will be knocked out of the air.
01:25We will truly be completing the job that President Reagan started 40 years ago, forever ending the missile threat to the American homeland.
01:34And the success rate is very close to 100 percent, which is incredible.
01:38When you think of it, you're shooting bullets out of the air.
01:40I'm also pleased to report that the one big, beautiful bill will include $25 billion for the Golden Dome to help construction get underway.
01:50That's the initial sort of a downposit.
01:54And we have probably, you're talking about, General, we're talking about $175 billion total cost of this when it's completed.
02:04This afternoon, I'm also announcing that I will appoint, very importantly, General Guttlein to lead the ambitious new effort as the direct reporting program manager for the Golden Dome.
02:17A very talented man.
02:18And I'm very honored to have been the one that helped or really created Space Force.
02:23Space Force has turned out to be a tremendous success.
02:26We were third in space, and now we're number one in space by a lot.
02:29It's not even close.
02:32And Mike is a four-star Space Force general, the recipient of the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, one of the most respected people in the world having to do with defense.
02:44You know, we have offense and we have defense.
02:45I'll bet he's good at offense.
02:48And he has an unmatched background in missile warning technology and defense procurement.
02:53General Guttlein also knows that we need to move fast.
02:56No one is more qualified for his job.
02:59And everybody, this was a universal acceptance of General Guttlein.
03:05Everybody that knows him and knows everybody else, they said there's only one man for the job, so I have a feeling we have the right guy.
03:12But now I'd like to invite Secretary Hegseth and the general to please say a few words and describe the system a little bit.
03:19And we appreciate you being here.
03:22The press has really been very fair over the last period of a couple of months.
03:25I don't know what happened to you.
03:27It was so much more exciting the other way.
03:30But you've been very, very fair.
03:31We have very high poll numbers, the highest we've ever had.
03:35And I think we're doing a great job.
03:37We had a tremendous trip to the Middle East, as you know.
03:40It was a really amazing trip.
03:42And now I came home and this is the one I was really looking forward to this day because this is very important for the success and even survival of our country.
03:52It's a pretty evil world out there.
03:54So this is something that goes a long way toward the survival of this great country.
04:01And as I said, we'll be discussing Canada.
04:04They want to hook in and they want to see if they can be a part of it.
04:07That sort of makes sense.
04:09I guess that's what I was talking about from day one.
04:11You know, it just automatically makes sense and it won't be very difficult to do.
04:15But they'll pay their.
