00:00What is up, YouTube? I'm Royal, I'm rank 1 Wild Rift, and today we're taking a look at the newest jungle champion, Nocturne.
00:09Nocturne is a jungle assassin, and in this video I'm gonna show you exactly how to traumatize the enemy carries
00:16with the newest champion, Nocturne. We're gonna be going over his abilities, how to use them most effectively,
00:22gonna go quickly over his build and what I think his best build will be on release,
00:27and of course we're gonna be taking a look at some gameplay.
00:31His abilities are actually quite simple, so let's quickly look over them.
00:35His passive makes his next auto attack in every few seconds do more damage, and it's also an AoE auto attack,
00:43which is pretty unique and interesting. This helps a lot with his clear speed, so he can AoE the monsters,
00:49but also it gives him more burst when he goes in with his ultimate.
00:53Also, every time you AoE attack, you get it up more often, so you wanna be AoE attacking a lot, so you can get your passive off more often.
01:00Your first ability throws some shadow that does AoE damage, and if an enemy gets damaged with it,
01:07while they're walking, the shadow will follow them, and Nocturne gains movement speed inside the shadow.
01:13Your second ability passively gives you attack speed every time you put a point on it,
01:17and it also gives you a spell shield, similar to Edge of Night or Sivir's third ability.
01:23Your third ability, you target an enemy, and as long as you stay within the tether range,
01:28similar to Karma's second ability, and if the enemies don't manage to break the tether, they will get feared.
01:34Nocturne's signature ability, of course his ultimate, he taps it once, the whole map goes dark,
01:41and the enemies cannot see the map, they can't see anything around them,
01:45and then with your second part of the ultimate, you can dash to an enemy dealing massive damage.
01:50This is an insane assassination ability, that allows you to get into the enemy carry,
01:55without their team being able to coordinate to protect them, because their screen is black.
02:01Nocturne doesn't really have any fenced combos, without your ultimate, you'll use your first ability
02:05for the movement speed to chase down enemies, get the third ability tether, and chase them down.
02:10With your ultimate, you're gonna ult first, get on top of the target, use your first ability to chase them down,
02:15use your third ability for them to get feared, and just auto attack them to death.
02:20So Nocturne can be played with two primary builds, he's very similar to Talon or Lee Sin,
02:25there are other AD jungle assassins, if you go the slightly more bruiser build with Trinity Force,
02:30you're gonna have higher clear speed, which is a build that I recommend going.
02:34It's not full assassin build, but it does give you a lot better clear speed,
02:39which allows you to get your power spikes faster, and it's gonna be better at 1v1 duels as well.
02:45But if you wanna focus more on being an assassin, you can go for Duskblade or even Collector,
02:52if it's an okay situation to build more crit items.
02:56I have two different gameplays for you guys, so let's get right into it.
03:00As per usual, we're in the Chinese PBE server, where we have early access to the champions.
03:06Yes, it is me playing, it's not someone else's gameplay.
03:09And also, we have 0 ping, because we're playing against the Diamond ELO Chinese bots,
03:15that are for some reason way better than my average Grandmaster teammates.
03:20Oh, Kha'Zix actually invading us level 1, I think Nocturne has a very strong level 1.
03:24Oh, he smited early, okay, he's just trolling.
03:27Thank you for the leash, I guess.
03:29So let me give you my thoughts on Nocturne as we do the first clear,
03:33on how strong or weak he is, because I know that a lot of you come to these videos
03:38just to hear out my thoughts, is this a champion I'm gonna have to ban,
03:41or is this champion doo-doo and I don't need to worry about it,
03:44and I only need to ban it if my teammates wanna pick it.
03:47So, my final thoughts on Nocturne are that he's good, but not overwhelmingly good.
03:53This might be one of the few times that Riot has kind of gotten a new champion right.
03:59So, his strengths can be extremely overwhelming.
04:02If you're an ADC, or if you're a mid laner, or a support,
04:05if you're playing a squishy champion in general,
04:07you pretty much cannot go in the side lanes.
04:09You can't go anywhere where Nocturne can possibly ult you.
04:13So, he's gonna be an extremely good champion against weaker players
04:18that don't have a good understanding of not getting caught out in positioning.
04:24Also, Nocturne requires a lot of team coordination, which just doesn't exist in solo queue.
04:28So, I do believe that he'll be pretty strong in solo queue,
04:32especially versus weaker players, but overall as a champion,
04:35I don't think he's that overwhelming, I don't think he's OP,
04:38and I think he does have quite a bit of counterplay.
04:41As long as your team can synergize together, and just group up together,
04:45and when he ults, you just immediately focus him down,
04:47because of how squishy this champion is.
04:50His only defensive capability is his spell shield,
04:53and it's honestly just not that strong.
04:56Now that we've gotten our first clear and we've gotten our ultimate,
04:59I immediately check if there's any possible ganks we can do.
05:02We can, so we're just gonna immediately base and go for the top side scuttle, maybe.
05:05But now that we've unlocked our ultimate, we do want to look to gank aggressively.
05:09Nocturne's one of the best gankers in the game.
05:12Oh, Kha'Zix is going in the bot side.
05:15That means I have free access to both scuttle crabs.
05:19He's actually doing a somewhat successful gank in the bot lane, from what I can tell.
05:25He's not gonna be able to get a kill.
05:27Oh, we can maybe pick him off here.
05:29We have our ultimate, and we are level up.
05:31We're almost in range.
05:32There we go.
05:33He immediately flashes away.
05:35I could have maybe followed with my flash,
05:37but since he broke the tether on my third ability,
05:40there was no point.
05:44Okay, I'm trolling. I'm giga trolling.
05:46He still had his third ability up.
05:48I guess that makes sense.
05:49Or he just came off cooldown.
05:50I'm just gonna take it as a gromp.
05:53I'm in a tricky situation here, because I don't have mid prio.
05:56Galio does have ult, though.
05:59I can maybe chase down the Kha'Zix.
06:02There's the Galio ult.
06:04Better than my Grandmaster teammates.
06:06No cap.
06:07Oh, that's not gonna be enough.
06:09Galio? Galio?
06:11Okay, he's smurfing.
06:12Dude, how good is my mid laner?
06:14Nice.
06:15We're gonna base and go for our Yomu's.
06:18I do think crit can be good on Nocturne,
06:21just going back to what I was talking about in the build.
06:23Like, if you wanna go Yomu's, Collector,
06:26Moral Reminder, Infinity Edge, something like that,
06:28that can be a lot, very overwhelming damage.
06:32But I do prefer going the regular assassin build
06:36with a Trinity Force for a better clear speed
06:38and better dueling potential.
06:40Or just going for the more standard
06:44or more assassin standard build with Duskblade, right?
06:48Just completely one-shotting enemies.
06:50That can be really, really powerful on Nocturne as well.
06:53It just depends on how you wanna play him
06:55and what the enemy team comp looks like, right?
06:58I think Bruiser Nocturne can also be okay.
07:01The main problem with Bruiser Nocturne
07:03is that he doesn't really have the same tools
07:06mobility-wise as a champion like Lee Sin,
07:09champion like even Talon, Kha'Zix, right?
07:15That can go slightly more Bruiser with...
07:18Well, Talon with a Black Cleaver and Trinity Force.
07:22Lee Sin obviously can go whatever he wants.
07:24He just doesn't have the same mobility, right?
07:26He's very ultimate-reliant.
07:27He's a very ultimate-reliant champion.
07:30Jinx has overextended, so we can catch her with her ult.
07:32And we're able to keep the tether even through the flash
07:35and this will be another kill.
07:37And this one makes Nocturne so impressive.
07:40If the enemies step up a little too close,
07:43his ganks are just way too good with his ultimate.
07:45You ult and use your third ability
07:47and if you stick right on them,
07:48even if they flash away,
07:49you can react quickly and move towards where they flash,
07:52like on this Jinx.
07:53She wasn't able to escape the tether and she's 100% dead.
07:56Your first ability is incredible for chasing down enemies
07:59and you always have your second ability
08:00to block whichever ability the enemy uses to try and escape.
08:04For Jinx, this is her third ability, right?
08:06I can walk right over her chompers with my spell shield.
08:09So he's a great, great assassin for that initial engage.
08:12It's just after that initial engage
08:14that he becomes really, really weak.
08:16So coordinated teams should be able to stop Nocturne.
08:19I still think he'll be one of the stronger champions
08:21in the game on release.
08:22I just don't think he'll be as overwhelming
08:25as other champions in the past,
08:26like Ryze, for example,
08:28who definitely needs to be nerfed.
08:32Right, he's not going to be this overwhelming.
08:34So we can do a dive.
08:35Oh, I didn't use my spell shield in time.
08:37I'm going to have to flash out.
08:38I can go back in with ulti.
08:40Renekton did not feel like tanking the turret,
08:42but this still works.
08:44I should definitely spell shield his ult.
08:47I will get a few turret plates.
08:49And this is kind of how you want to play Nocturne too.
08:51His playstyle is so simple.
08:52This is one of the most simple yet effective assassins, right?
08:57He's the ultimate, farm, get your ulti,
09:00use your ulti, farm, get your ulti,
09:01use your ulti, right?
09:02Very similar to an Amumu-type champion.
09:05Like Lee Sin and Talon can still do things
09:07without their ultimates.
09:08Kha'Zix can still do things without his ultimate.
09:10Kayn can still do things without his ultimate.
09:12And while it's true for Nocturne too,
09:14his main mobility spell is his ultimate.
09:18So you definitely want to be focusing
09:19on doing plays with your ultimate,
09:21because if you fight without,
09:22you might be in trouble.
09:23In terms of double camping,
09:25now that I'm doing my clear,
09:26this time I can mention,
09:27there's definitely ways to minimax his double camping
09:29that I still haven't figured out.
09:32Because his passive is AOE, right?
09:35And his first ability is AOE too.
09:37So you can probably do quite a bit of double camping
09:39as you clear to make your clear speed as fast as possible.
09:42I do want to contest the dragon
09:43because I didn't have my ulti,
09:44and I don't want to be fighting without my ulti.
09:47Also another thing I want to mention
09:49is the combo with Orianna,
09:51because she's one of the strongest champions right now.
09:53Nocturne and Orianna can be a really scary combo.
09:58Like if Orianna is in range
09:59and she gives the shield to Nocturne,
10:01he ults and goes in,
10:02and you just shockwave,
10:03you just immediately one shot someone.
10:06Obviously he's really good with Galio too,
10:07as we're seeing in this game already.
10:09Oh!
10:10What's my Galio doing?
10:11I was not ready.
10:13I didn't have my ulti up, king.
10:15I will ult and jump in.
10:17Keep in mind that when I use my ulti,
10:19the enemy's vision becomes very limited,
10:22and they don't see the map anymore.
10:24So even if you don't necessarily need it for the mobility,
10:27just using it to block the enemy's vision
10:29makes it really, really easy
10:32to secure kills and confuse the enemy team, right?
10:36Now we're going to base and get our Trinity Force.
10:41And we'll go see if we can clear our jungle
10:43once it comes up.
10:45We again have to wait 40 seconds for our ultimate,
10:47and when we have our ultimate again,
10:48we're immediately going to look for a play.
10:51Could just force down mid-territory.
10:52It's only 100 HP.
10:55My team is forcing it down.
10:56I can maybe loop around on the Ziggs.

11:33against champions like Jinx, Nami, Ziggs, right?
11:37Champions that don't have great peel or mobility, right?
11:40The key is mobility,
11:41because even if you do have great peel, right,
11:44like Jinx has her chompers,
11:46Nami has her ultimate,
11:47Ziggs has his second ability,
11:48but since I can spell shield those abilities
11:50when I go in,
11:51it's not enough.
11:52They need something more
11:54to stop me from just going on,
11:56ulting them and one-shotting them.
11:57Like, if you don't have flash up,
11:58they're 100% dead,
11:59and even if they have flash up,
12:00it's not guaranteed.

12:21She has to be next to her Nami at all times
12:24and then to be ready with their abilities
12:26if I ult,
12:27because I can't spell shield all of them, right?

12:31But that's exactly how you want to play Nocturne.
12:33Every time you see a little ADC walk up,
12:36it's a free kill.
12:37So this is why I think Nocturne is going to be
12:39more powerful than what he's supposed to be
12:41in solo queue,
12:42in solo queue,
12:43because of the bad coordination of players.
12:47So for the most part,
12:48I'm thinking he'll probably be in the S tier,
12:50maybe high A tier.
12:53But I don't think he's going to be as strong
12:54as Amumu is right now.
12:56I, to be honest,
12:57I don't even think he's going to be as strong
12:58as Lee Sin is right now.
13:01But against disorganized teams like this,
13:03he can be unbelievably strong.

13:30and then use his ulti to roam,
13:32I think can be a really good tactic.

13:35it's more of an off-meta thing,
13:37but I think he has more potential
13:38than a champion like Talon.

14:57from the Edge of Night,
14:58it just becomes a little too difficult to survive
15:02once you go in.
15:03But having the Edge of Night spell shield,
15:05having your own spell shield as well,
15:09is barely enough for you to be able to survive.

16:04It's not like Twisted Fate's ultimate that gives vision of all the enemies,
16:07but it's already a super OP ability.

16:27If it hits, it's so easy to chase the enemies,
16:30even if they flash away, because once the shadow is on them
16:33and they keep creating more shadow, you can just walk on them and be super fast.
16:38And then obviously you want to follow up with your third ability.
16:41You can use your second ability even before your ultimate.
16:44Obviously, you'll waste a bit of time on it, but...
16:48You just kind of ult and you just spam all your abilities and no attack.
16:51That's kind of the combo, right?
16:53It's not too complicated.
16:55I'm not sure if I need anti-shield this game.

17:00But I guess that's kind of it with shielding.
17:02It's probably not an ideal item, but I can't really afford anything else,
17:05so we'll just go anti-shield.

17:21Now with our ultimate, there's not much we can do.

17:27But our ultimate has a fairly low cooldown at max rank,
17:30around 30-something seconds.
17:33And it's almost a guaranteed kill every time we use it.
17:35Even though with the Kha'Zix, as he's ultimate and he flashed away,
17:38we were able to chase him down because we had our first ability
17:41and got that movement speed.
17:44And the great thing about Nocturne is that he counters a lot of these other assassins,
17:48like Lee Sin, like Talon, right?
17:51Because we are always able to get the first jump.
17:53And the first jump is insanely important when it comes to these fights.
17:57We do have our ulti back up.
17:58We can look for Jinx, maybe.
18:02Oh, there we go.
18:03Oh my god, we crit and she just got one shot.
18:06ADCs are going to absolutely hate this champion.
18:09If you main ADC, I would just ban this champion.
18:12You need your team to protect you and it's just way too hard.
18:16This is going to be the ADC nightmare,

18:20especially for immobile ADCs like this.

19:46because I can just ult and kill whoever I want whenever I want, pretty much.
19:51They don't have the right tools to stop me either on their team comp.

22:06In this game, I'm going to go a more aggressive Assassin build
22:10with Duskblade instead of Trinity Force.
22:13We're going to be focusing on maxed burst.
22:16Also, I'm going to be trying to double camp.
22:18Oh, first blood already down a trade of mid laners.
22:21I'm going to try to double camp a little more efficiently,
22:24hopefully without resetting my camps.

22:41but the champions who clear the jungle the fastest
22:43will always be the best,

22:48the more time you have to do other things.
