02:47I'm hoping you'll find some words
02:49I have one more question
02:50What does this award mean to you
02:52And to the dance school?
02:54Yeah, I feel really proud that
02:57This art form is helping us to
03:00Spread our culture and tradition
03:04To the next generation
03:06So, from this art form
03:08They're learning a lot
03:09Not only the dance
03:11They're learning everything
03:12All the things
03:13About our country
03:14And everything
03:15I say, first of all
03:17I feel absolutely privileged
03:19To stand on this stage
03:20Yet again
03:21This is not my first time
03:23But once again
03:24It's an absolute privilege
03:25To say
03:26Well done
03:27Thank you
03:28To all our fabulous volunteers
03:30Who are the glue
03:31That hold Crawley together
03:32Without you
03:33Crawley is nothing
03:34So well done
03:35To every single person
03:36And the winner tonight
03:39For the achievement award
03:40Is Poppy May
03:41Poppy's life took a devastating turn
03:46Losing all sensation
03:47From the waist down
03:48And becoming a wheelchair user
03:50The confusion, fear and heartbreak
03:52Of those days
03:53Still linger in her memory
03:54Magnified by the helplessness
03:56Of those around her
03:57Poppy's world fell apart
03:59Depression consumed this young lady
04:01For years
04:02Leaving her feeling lost
04:03And broken
04:04In October 2019
04:06Poppy entered
04:07A residential rehabilitation unit
04:09For a 12 week treatment plan
04:11What followed was
04:12A very dark period
04:13Yet
04:14Deep inside her
04:15A spark of hope
04:16Refused to be extinguished
04:18That spark led to a turning point
04:20In January 2023
04:21Poppy's mental health
04:22Began to shift
04:23And by May 2023
04:25She completed her first 10k
04:27At the Gatwick Run
04:28In her day wheelchair
04:29Poppy has now completed
04:3118 races in her wheelchair
04:33A 10k
04:34Half K marathons
04:35And full marathons
04:36Raising funds
04:37For her favourite charities
04:38Mind and Outreach
04:39Looking back
04:40Poppy's journey
04:41Is one of heartbreak
04:42Resilience
04:43And triumph
04:44It's a testament
04:45To the power of community
04:46Determination
04:47And the human spirit
04:48Poppy has learnt
04:49One vital truth
04:50She doesn't give up
04:52Please give it up
04:53For Poppy
04:54So it's been a heck of a time for you
05:04Starting over is one of the hardest things to do
05:07Where did your courage and determination come from do you think?
05:12So after I became disabled I had very bad mental health
05:17I tried taking my life over
05:19I think it's about 200 times
05:21Many close calls
05:22I actually lost my life and was brought back to life
05:27And I think after such a long period of time of constantly being sectioned
05:32And you know always in and out of mental health hospitals
05:35I wanted to finally actually start living my life rather than surviving it
05:39If that doesn't inspire you I don't know what will
05:48What are your plans for the rest of 2025 and beyond?
05:53So I post content videos around fitness
05:58And a few weeks ago I got contacted by a coach from Team GB for the Paralympics
06:04Thank you
06:06And so I've started training for para powerlifting for Team GB
06:15On behalf of the Project Centre I'm proud to announce
06:18The winner is Fiona Newport and the Crawley Athletics Club
06:24Crawley Athletics Club is going from strength to strength
06:27With Fiona's endless encouragement
06:29They recently retained the Sussex Cup for the Young Athletes Indoor Sports Hall League
06:33She is instrumental in Crawley
06:35Being the leading athletics club for young athletes in Sussex
06:39Indoors and out
06:40And really deserves to be recognised for her efforts as a volunteer
06:43She not only coordinates the young athletes
06:45She is also the under 13's team manager
06:48And spends most of her weekends officiating at Sussex Athletics events
06:52It's clear that you dedicate a lot of time to coaching and developing these youngsters
07:01What motivates you?
07:05I think seeing how much of a difference it can make to these young children
07:09It's a great sport, it's something where they can achieve individually
07:13But also as part of a team
07:15And we get lots of youngsters coming in who are really scared, really nervous
07:19And we encourage them to get involved and understand that it's not about winning
07:23You know, it's taking part
07:25And then it seems to work
07:27It helps them in the rest of their lives as well
07:29Amazing!
07:30What does this all mean to you and to the club, would you say?
07:33I think it's amazing
07:35We just keep working
07:36We've got a great group of volunteers
07:37And some of them are here tonight
07:39Thank you
07:41Thank you
07:43We all give our time voluntarily
07:45There's nobody who's actually paid
07:47We put in a lot of time
07:49But we don't expect rewards for it
07:51We don't really expect thanks
07:52I prefer to be behind the scenes, really
07:54Yeah, so it's fantastic to be recognised
07:57Thank you so much
07:58Well, thank you
07:59Congratulations
08:00Well done for everything you're doing
08:01Ladies and gentlemen
08:02Good evening everyone
08:04On behalf of Merwin Baxter Solicitors
08:06It's my great honour to present this award
08:09And the winner is Inspire Choir
08:13The choir is totally inclusive
08:15Some members have additional needs and health conditions
08:17So adjustments are made where needed
08:19There are no scary auditions either
08:21All are welcome to join in
08:23Everyone is friendly
08:24And they support anyone who needs help
08:26One nominator said
08:27We enjoy learning the songs and the harmonies
08:30And it really helps my mental health
08:32And I've made a lot of you friends through the choir
08:35I really look forward to the practice sessions
08:37And events
08:38How important is this choir to all of you?
08:41Well
08:42Yeah, it's really important
08:44Like
08:45Yeah
08:46Really
08:47It gives us a place
08:49Yeah, it gives us a place to come together
08:51When I first joined
08:53I wasn't in a particularly good place
08:55But now I've got these wonderful friends
08:57And this wonderful choir leader
08:58So yeah
08:59It's very, very important
09:01Evening everyone
09:03What an honour it is to be sponsors for this evening's event
09:07And I feel a real privilege being able to announce the winner of the Education Award
09:12And the winner is
09:14Janet Nold, Maidenbauer Preschool Playgroup
09:17Janet has been nominated for her amazing commitment and dedication throughout the last 30 years
09:24To our charity run Maidenbauer Preschool Playgroup
09:28She always makes sure all the staff, children and parents are at the forefront of everything she does
09:33And will do anything she can to make the playgroup the very best playgroup that they can possibly be
09:38Can you name some of the highlights from the last 30 years at the preschool playgroup for us?
09:44Oh gosh
09:45There's so many
09:47There's been so many changes and everything
09:50Highlights
09:51I mean the main thing is watching the children grow
09:54And seeing them develop and everything
09:56I notice there's a couple of the children
09:58Sorry, they're my children
09:59In the audience here as well
10:01So hopefully I can catch up with them later
10:03I see there was one down there
10:05Hi
10:06It's disappeared I think
10:08And there's another one over there
10:10So
10:11So you've just kind of seen them grow over the years
10:13Yeah
10:14I love watching them grow and develop
10:16So, yeah
10:17Now
10:18Araf Gansani
10:20To represent the county at National Chess Tournament
10:25Araf began playing chess in November 2024
10:31Before that, he played casually on a mobile app and had limited knowledge of the game
10:36However, in November 2024 he attended his first tournament
10:40And became the under 8 champion
10:42Which was a significant surprise for his family and the Sussex Junior team manager
10:46The manager advised them to support Araf further, recognising his great talent
10:50Consequently, he started visiting a local chess club
10:54Where everyone was amazed by his rapid progress in just two months
10:57On the 1st of January 2025, Araf participated in his second tournament
11:02Scoring four out of six wins and successfully defending his under 8 Sussex Junior chess title
11:08Following his outstanding performance in these tournaments and training sessions
11:11Araf was selected for the Sussex Junior under 9 team on his birthday January 19th, 2025
11:18He is now officially representing Sussex County in national level tournaments
11:23Wow
11:24Cool
11:25Well, congratulations young man
11:27Um, now, how does it feel for you to win this award?
11:30It feels really nice
11:32It feels really nice
11:34That's, yeah, that's, that's
11:37Now, you know, athletes who do, um, let's say running and football
11:41They come away with injuries and sometimes strains
11:44After you've played a lot of tournaments
11:46How, how does your, how do you feel after you've played lots of tournaments?
11:49I feel like I'm gonna win a trophy or not, I'm gonna be angry
11:53Well, congratulations and I'll tell you what, we all get behind you and wish you the very best
12:01And we'll look out for you punching that clock and winning as many chess tournaments as you can
12:05Congratulations Aaron
12:06Well done
12:07Good evening
12:09Um, I'm delighted to, uh, award, uh, the Inspiration Award tonight
12:14The winner goes to Valerie Dobinson
12:18The first Sunday of every month
12:21Valerie hosts a breakfast for veterans that she funds herself, runs herself and cooks herself
12:27She goes above and beyond to support all veterans in the community
12:30Whether it's supporting with hospital visits, and, sorry, hospital appointments
12:34Or simply being someone to talk to
12:36One nomination read, Val does so much in the community for veterans
12:40She real is, she's a real inspiration and a pillar of the community
12:46Embarrassed? No, no, no, do you know what hit?
12:48The Community Awards are about recognition, among lots of other things
12:52So, what does this mean to you?
12:55I, I, I, I don't, I don't really know what I mean
12:58I don't know, I don't do any of this on my own
13:00Like, I've got a really good support team behind me
13:02And we're, on my part, I, I own this one public with Scream and Crawley
13:06And, we are a massive community, it's like a family
13:10Um, so I don't do any of this by myself
13:12I've got so much to pull
13:14Um, and, just, I don't know
13:18I'm so embarrassed
13:20What inspires you to keep going and to help others the way you do?
13:24Um, I'm just really, really grateful to all of our veterans
13:28We've got a massive veterans group at the Swamp Hub
13:30Um, like, over a hundred probably
13:32Um, uh, really and truly
13:34Um, really and truly, we are all only here because of them
13:38Well
13:40You're also here because you've been nominated
13:42Because you're brilliant, congratulations
13:44Enjoy your seat
13:46Hello, good evening everyone
13:48Once again, the Hall Theatre is honoured to be hosting this year's Crawley Community Awards
13:53And I'm pleased to announce the winner of the Performing Arts Award is Desire to Dance
13:59One nomination said Kayleigh has worked so very hard to build this incredible dance school over the last eight years
14:07She has helped many children grow into a very accomplished dancers
14:10I have watched my own girls grow with increasing confidence under Kayleigh's guidance
14:14The Desire to Dance family have performed in some amazing venues
14:17As well as working hard to raise thousands of pounds for local charities
14:21It will be a dream come true for the dance school to be recognised for its hard work and dedication to its students
14:27Hello
14:29So, um, it's quite clear from the nomination that your students absolutely love you and love what you do
14:35Okay
14:37Um, what drives you?
14:39Um, I think just seeing their achievements
14:43Some of them walk through the door so shy
14:45And, um, then they just come out their shelves
14:48And then just live, breathe, dance
14:51And I see them every day of the week basically
14:55Um, what are future plans for Desire to Dance?
14:59Um, lots
15:02Um, keep growing
15:05Keep getting out there and performing
15:07Keep dancing
15:09Thank you, thank you Nicola for that little
15:13Woo!
15:14Bit of support
15:15Um, thank you so much for having me, um, to judge, um, the awards again this year
15:19Um, the winner of the support group is, second time winner
15:23Men's Share
15:25This is what one nomination said
15:29Sean set up Men's Share as there was no real support out there for men going through difficult times
15:35You got your eight weeks worth of counselling
15:37But like myself, many like myself also needed extra support
15:41I was directed to Men's Share
15:43I can't express enough how the support I have received from Men's Share has changed my life since losing my wife
15:49Men's Share offers so much support and covers a vast amount of different situations
15:53I don't think I would be here today if it weren't for Men's Share
15:56And the incredible support I have received from this fantastic support network
16:00Hello mate, how are you?
16:04Congratulations
16:05Congratulations
16:06We've met before of course
16:07Second
16:08Where are you going to put this next trophy?
16:09In the toilet
16:11Okay
16:13Perfect
16:14So, um, you've obviously seen a huge gap in the support needed for men
16:19How and why did you create Men's Share?
16:22Um, because I was just reading like, you know, on social media and the paper
16:26Like, you know, men checking their lives and, you know, nowhere to go
16:31Um, and suffering silence
16:33And isolation is the biggest, biggest, um, taker, as they say
16:38So, um, I just sat there one day after the pandemic
16:41And I just thought, God, there's something waiting for 25 year olds
16:45Band of brothers, plug
16:47Um, and, um, but there's nothing for the older men really
16:50So, I just thought, uh, Men's Share, Men's Share
16:52And I came up with Men's Share
16:53And it took us five, six weeks to get one man through the door
16:56And now we've got 700 men registered
16:58So, uh, and we're also, we're also in schools as well
17:03In schools as well
17:04We've just got, we want to say a personal thank to, uh, Vicky Jacobs
17:08Um, and the team
17:09Because we're now in St Wilfers, uh, we're just an eight week pilot
17:13To help these 14 to 18 year olds
17:15To educate them to not pick up a knife
17:18And keep away from gangs, so
17:20So next up is the Volunteer Award
17:22To present the award, please welcome on stage
17:24Hazel Thompson on behalf of CITB
17:27Thanks very much for inviting us back here again
17:30Um, we, uh, love to, uh, support this, um, award ceremony
17:36And the winner is Carol Hayton
17:41It wouldn't be an awards night if somebody couldn't make it
17:50Carol can't make it live via satellite
17:53No
17:54So, um, I'm going to ask Katie Bennett to come up and collect the award on her behalf
17:59Team for the Citizens Advice since 2023
18:03Carol has become an important member of the team
18:06From day one she has consistently put others' needs first
18:08And continues to demonstrate a strong passion, enthusiasm and commitment to supporting local people
18:14And that is why she was nominated
18:15Just, just do your best Carol
18:17Do your best Carol
18:18There we go, thank you Katie
18:19So, next up we have the Volunteer Group category
18:23To announce the winner, please welcome Mark Donovan
18:26Now, what does the service you provide mean for people who use audio description?
18:32Um, so our patrons are visually impaired patrons, um, and so we describe to them what's going on on the stage
18:39So we're out to be serviced a lot when it comes to theatre
18:41So, it's really rewarding, we absolutely love the final service
18:45And it's a wonderful community
18:47Uh, it's great to be here for the seventh time, uh, presenting the awards
18:52It's never any less inspiring, so congratulations to everyone again
18:56And the winner of the sports team
18:59Are Cruelly Game Changers
19:02Um, the award winner is Jane Green, um, from Seeds Connected
19:17Jane started SET and has enabled it to grow to a charity to help neurodivergent physically ill and disabled people for all ages
19:26Even though she is disabled and a carer herself
19:29She does everything she can to support people
19:32And has selflessly raised over £185,000
19:35And has never paid herself a penny
19:41And one nomination read
19:43SET's Connected has really grown
19:45And is now helping not just Cruelly Residents
19:47But also thousands of people everywhere
19:49Without this, we would have still been disbelieved and thought of as hypercontact
19:56Great congratulations
19:57Have you been surprised at the growth rate of Seeds Connected?
20:00It really surprised me
20:02Um, it was between Cruelly
20:04I was going to do it in my village
20:06Cocklawn, Cruelly
20:07And Horsham
20:08Originally
20:09And East Grinstead
20:10If it grew that far
20:11And we are global now
20:14We are a UK registered charity
20:16In Scotland and England
20:18And the demand
20:19I haven't been here all the time in Cruelly
20:21Since 2018-19 when I was here before
20:25Because the demand has been so big
20:27Especially in Covid
20:28We have helped save lives
20:30And I say we are all voluntary
20:32There is some of our team there
20:35But we didn't have a lot because we get ill
20:38And it can happen really quickly
20:41But I think it is so important
20:44We are right on the cusp of this
20:45And that is what is so exciting
20:47And yes, if I wasn't so busy thinking
20:51I would pinch myself
20:52Because it is quite
20:53But then it has to happen
20:54This is the right time to open
20:55Good evening
20:56On behalf of Optime Group
20:57I am honoured to present

24:01What do you remember about growing up in Crawley
24:03And did you train here?
24:05I did train here

24:07So I still train over in Pete's Cottage
24:09Which is where Crawley Archery Club is
24:11And I remember growing up
24:13One of my biggest memories
24:14Was actually Cherry Lane Adventure Playground
24:16I remember Cherry Lane by then
24:18Still a lot of splinters
24:20Exactly
24:21And yourself
24:23Did you train in Crawley as well?
24:25Yeah
24:26I train here
24:27And I'm kind of based in Portsmouth
24:28I train here
24:29And then as I represent Ireland
24:30I'm back and forth to Ireland
24:31And then I'm training camps with the squad
24:33Fabulous
24:34Now we would all love to know
24:36What you're both doing now
24:37And what you're preparing for
24:38I've just recently come back for a competition
24:40Yesterday from Italy
24:41Two World Cup road races
24:43Where I won three golds in the bronze
24:45And then
24:46And then
24:51This year it's the World Championships
24:53End of August
24:54And for me it's been a bit of a quiet two years
24:57Last year is when I was a big year with Paris
24:59The Paralympics
25:00So it's been a quiet two years
25:01So it's been a quiet two years
25:02But I still have
25:03Kind of a major main
25:04Like ambitions
25:05And aiming for the World Championships
25:07End of August
25:08Two girls in the bronze
25:09A quiet year she said
25:11How about yourself
25:12What are you doing now
25:13And what are you preparing for?
25:14So I'm actually flying out to Italy
25:16On Friday
25:17So if you just come back
25:18I'm just going
25:19We've got the first leg of the European Cup
25:21So it's the first tournament back from
25:23Obviously having baby
25:24And then we're prepping for our World Championships
25:26Which at the end of the year in Korea

25:49Very well done
25:50And I'd like to say
25:51I'm really proud and honoured
25:53To present the Crawley Community Award
25:56For the second time
25:57In my mere year
25:59And the winner is
26:04Autism Support Holy
26:06I am nominating this amazing charity
26:24Because they really do help change the lives of parents and carers
26:28Who are in need of help and support with raising their children
26:31Who are on the autistic spectrum
26:33This charity has helped me so much
26:35And I'm truly grateful for everything they do
26:37Not only do they support you through navigating the whole social education
26:41With these systems
26:42They also provide the most amazing workshops
26:44Which give life changing information
26:46On how to best support your child
26:48Whilst you wait years for help and assessment
26:50They always go above and beyond to help families
26:53Who don't know where to turn for help
26:55Their coffee mornings and events are brilliant
26:57And I would be lost without them
26:59They totally deserve this award
27:01Because they really do change people's lives
27:03For the better
27:05Well congratulations
27:07I've just been thrown
27:08It's not often that you support your future sister
27:10And you're hiding back at the back
27:12Oh okay
27:13So
27:14Well congratulations first of all
27:18Now Maria your personal experience
27:21Clearly drives your determination to support families
27:24And in a similar situation
27:26How proud are you of knowing that
27:28You are able to help families facing the same issues
27:31That you yourself have experienced
27:33This is just the most incredible achievement for us as a channel
27:36For us as a charity
27:38We're here tonight
27:39Because of my son
27:40Standing here
27:41If I didn't have Ryan
27:43We wouldn't have a charity
27:44I wouldn't have met all these amazing carers
27:46Who are just busting through life every single day
27:51You know navigating incredibly broken systems
27:56But to get the best provision for those that they care and they love for
27:59And yeah this is just such a momentous occasion for us as a charity
28:06This is for every single carer here standing on stage tonight
28:09It's for every single carer out there who didn't want to come up on stage
28:12And for every single one of our carers at home who were willing to song and nominated us
28:17To carry on doing what we do to help support these incredible carers in the community
28:23We'll see
28:24Massive congratulations
28:25Thank you very much
