00:00:18I mean, all the way, started 24th, got cleared back to 29th, 21st, 7th.

00:00:27The closer he gets to the front, Kevin, what's it going to do?
00:00:29It's going to handle better, and Ryan Blaney has been notorious for this, and one of the
00:00:33few cars that has been able to make his way through the field week after week, so I look
00:00:38for him to be a contender as we get towards the end of this race.
00:00:41We still got a long ways to go, though.
00:00:42My man's feeling it right there.
00:00:44One driver who really made out on that caution flag was Chase Elliott, because had he taken
00:00:50four tires and not two, he might have been right back there in the eye of the storm that
00:00:55provoked that caution flag.

00:00:58We're back to green.
00:00:59This is very similar to what happened last year for Chase Elliott.
00:01:02He was able to get control of this race with a caution that fell in his favor.
00:01:07Today he's just going to drive to the front.
00:01:10Not so fast with that.
00:01:12Hey, that 24 car has done nothing but surprise me with the damage that it has on that splitter
00:01:17and everything that he has going on.
00:01:19I'm surprised that he's even able to do anything.
00:01:22Elliott gets high.
00:01:23Gets tight.
00:01:24That's where Rick Hendricks got to hold his breath with three of his cars in the top four.
00:01:28Now top five.
00:01:34Blaney tried to get back in line behind Ty Gibbs right there and really stacked him up
00:01:37behind him.
00:01:41Not a good turn four for Chase Elliott.
00:01:44That's a two-tire scenario.
00:01:47Moving on the inside there.
00:01:49That's what all these guys on two tires have really fought in traffic.
00:01:53Those cars get tighter.
00:01:54We heard Josef earlier talk about how tight his car was in traffic.
00:01:57Now you see Bubba Wallace off the pace in a really bad spot.

00:02:01That's exactly right.
00:02:02That was close.
00:02:03Wallace two laps down.
00:02:04Chase Elliott is in trouble on these two tires.
00:02:11Cannot get through the corner.
00:02:14It's amazing how fast that can turn.
00:02:16I believe if he completes that pass on William Byron and gets that clean air, he has a whole
00:02:21different race going.
00:02:23Didn't make that pass.
00:02:24Got himself back in the traffic.
00:02:26That's when the two-tire scenario does not go well.
00:02:30Wallace has made it to pit road.
00:02:33Let's have a look at our XFINITY fastest lap.
00:02:35It came right at the start of the race.
00:02:38On lap two for Carson Joseph, 189.1 miles per hour.
00:02:45William Byron, 188.2.
00:02:47So Joseph, by a full mile an hour, fastest lap of the race.
00:02:50He's been grinding it out.
00:02:51He's had a really good car all weekend long.
00:02:54Just kind of been running right here in the top six or seven all day long.
00:02:58You get that car some track position, you know it's the fastest car.
00:03:01Look at the inside of Reddick.
00:03:04There was a massive stackup right there or something that shook all those cars up because
00:03:08Ty Gibbs went by the 77 and the 45.
00:03:11You see Blaney go through the middle right there.
00:03:13The needle, baby.
00:03:15Let's go.
00:03:16May the fourth be with you.
00:03:17Here comes Blaney.
00:03:18He definitely believes that the fourth is with him.
00:03:22Yes.

00:03:24Huge start for good reason.

00:03:29That car is just going to continue to keep handling better and better and better.
00:03:38When we started this race, I had my eye on those guys.
00:03:41A lot of big name drivers that started in the back of this race and he was not moving
00:03:46anywhere.
00:03:47He was mired back in traffic.
00:03:49Just passed two or three cars that first run.
00:03:51Every since then he keeps picking them off one by one.
00:03:54You look at Austin Sendrick right here.
00:03:55We know that William Byron's car is damaged.
00:03:58It wasn't long ago that we were talking about him being in 21st place, Mike.
00:04:02The way that everything cycled, now he's up there, the fastest car battling for the lead.
00:04:07I got to believe that this 24 car as we run right here is really when we're going to see
00:04:11the effects of what he has going on with the front end.
00:04:15I feel really surprised in the performance that that car has.
00:04:17Two knocks right there.
00:04:19Obviously we heard him.
00:04:20We saw the splitter damage.
00:04:21That is going to hurt the aero big time.
00:04:24When I heard that driver, William Byron, say that his wheel is off too, double whammy.
00:04:29That's a big knock.
00:04:31So Larry, if that steering wheel is off, let's say 10 degrees, 15 degrees from being straight
00:04:36up and down when he's going straight, what's going to be the impact on tire wear for Byron?
00:04:41It's definitely going to magnify the tire wear.
00:04:45He's going to adjust the way he turns the steering wheel, but it still can increase
00:04:50tire wear, no question.
00:04:58I believe as this run goes on, his pace will be a little slower.
00:05:03You see it right there.
00:05:04Look how much he's got all those cars stacked up behind him right now.
00:05:08Ryan Blaney, the fastest of all the top ten last time by.
00:05:16There you see him compared to the leader.
00:05:19Big difference there.
00:05:2026 to a 55.

00:05:23But that's what, now he's made up that gap, so as you see these next laps go by, you're
00:05:29going to see that lap time slow down because William Byron's car is starting to fade.
00:05:33He's stacking them up big time behind him.
00:05:35They're all starting to stack up.
00:05:37Byron moving around, trying to make a move.
00:05:39Kyle Larson got a huge runoff turn, too.
00:05:41Just flew right up to Cendric in the back straightaway.
00:05:44From the bottom, went to the top.
00:05:47Cendric does not want this pass to be complete because they all know that the 24 car is in
00:05:52trouble and they want to be the first one behind him, so Kyle Larson did a great job
00:05:56right there of taking that momentum and finishing this pass off.
00:06:00You have to be careful when you catch these guys.
00:06:02Catch them at the right time.
00:06:03If you catch them where you have to just put it right behind them, it really stacks
00:06:06you up.
00:06:07You have to get on the brakes.
00:06:08You lose the front wheels.
00:06:09The car gets tight.
00:06:10You have to slow down.
00:06:11They all come on you.
00:06:12And it costs him three positions.
00:06:14That quick, too.
00:06:16Ty Gibbs has come into the picture in third.
00:06:20He's the highest running Toyota in this race, and he wants to turn the conversation back
00:06:25to when will he win, not will he win.
00:06:31Chevy's fighting it out at the front.
00:06:33Larson and Byron.
00:06:34I am getting fired up.
00:06:36You don't have to look back any farther.
00:06:38We talk about Gibbs all weekend long, Ty Gibbs, the speed he had in there, and I cannot believe
00:06:43this Ryan Blaney is right there in the conversation for the lead.
00:06:46He needs to finish this pass quickly because being side-by-side has pulled Ryan Blaney
00:06:50right back up to him, so he needs to finish it right here.

00:07:00Kyle Larson has taken the lead in Texas with 77 to go.
00:07:16Kyle Larson could, of course, break that up today.
00:07:36Ryan Blaney has just passed Ty Gibbs for second spot, so it's Chevy, Ford, Toyota in the top
00:07:40three spots.
00:07:41Look at Gilliland there in ninth after having that odd strategy back at the end of stage
00:07:52number two, and William Byron has slid to tenth after restarting in the lead.
00:07:57Kyle Larson is going to have his hands full with this 12 car for the rest of the race.
00:08:00There's 70 laps to go, but Ryan Blaney has just been making his way through this field,
00:08:06and the closer he gets to the front, Clint, the faster that car goes.
00:08:10It sure does, and it's amazing.
00:08:16He does it each and every week.
00:08:18It really doesn't matter if it's a short track or an intermediate or anything else.
00:08:22He's one of the only guys that can drive up through the field, and it's his ability to
00:08:26drive a looser car than the rest.
00:08:28Here's one of the others, Joey Logano, after not qualifying well, working his way up through
00:08:36the field.
00:08:37He started this race back in 27th, and he's just soldiered on like the defending champion
00:08:43of the series that he is to put himself in a position to capitalize.
00:08:48On board with Ryan Preece, you hear him continue to shift through turns one and two, but we
00:08:53all had a lot of questions about that penalty last week and just talking about the momentum,
00:08:58and then they qualified bad.
00:08:59They got a bad qualifying draw with the way that they finished, and now he's running back
00:09:05through the field.
00:09:06We don't have those questions anymore.
00:09:07William Byron is on pit road, kind of wondering if maybe that should have been something he
00:09:13could have addressed under the caution flag, but why give up the front row if you're going
00:09:17to restart there?
00:09:18So here he is.
00:09:19Well, they've got what they've got now, and they've made their bed, and they just need
00:09:22to change the tires, make an adjustment to what they have because they don't have time
00:09:26to fix that damage.
00:09:27The window, Larry?
00:09:28Yeah, they got into the fuel window.
00:09:29Rudy Fugel told him about three laps ago, I want to get to the fuel window.
00:09:33They can make it to the end from here, but they need these green flag stops to cycle
00:09:37through.
00:09:38Well, that certainly makes sense as a strategy rather than stopping under the caution to
00:09:42fix something when you have the choice of restarting on the front row.
00:09:46Well done.
00:09:48And there's just no way they're going to do anything to that splitter or anything that's
00:09:51up there, so you might as well adjust to what the handling is of that car and try to make
00:09:56the most of it on this last run.
00:09:58And they have wins in the bank, all right, so don't need to gamble, do you?
00:10:03Well, you can't.

00:10:05I mean, you can gamble.
00:10:06You don't have to worry about the win.
00:10:08You can go out there and just try to play the most aggressive call that you can to get
00:10:12the best finish.

00:10:22Kyle turned 40 this week.
00:10:25I remember when he was too young to run a cup race, NASCAR wouldn't let him until he
00:10:29turned 18.
00:10:30He changed the rule just for that purpose, and here he is.
00:10:33Now this weekend, his son, Brexton, in micro sprints made a daring last lap pass.
00:10:39It was an awesome move.
00:10:41The kind his dad probably would have, could have made, but made the move to win the race,
00:10:46and I'm sure that's put a bigger smile on Kyle Busch's face this week than anything
00:10:50else that's happened.
00:10:52Well, right now the smile that he has on his face is by passing those three cars in two
00:10:58laps.
00:10:59He's on the move forward.
00:11:00Well, and Erik Jones is, too.
00:11:03Had that speeding penalty, and there he is right behind him, marching back up through
00:11:07the field.
00:11:08There's Brexton.

00:11:10He's a spitting mirror image of that father of his.
00:11:19Erik Jones right behind Kyle Busch and moving up in the same fashion.
00:11:23A couple of car lengths behind Busch.
00:11:28He's been really consistent all day.
00:11:29He's been right around that top end of the top ten right there.
00:11:33So solid day for Erik Jones.

00:11:40now all across the country.

00:25:12Cars that had stopped under green before that caution came out, and they are back on the
00:25:16lead lap in positions 20 through about 27.
00:25:23So we'll restart with 28 cars on the lead lap.
00:25:26Cole Custer the only car one lap down.
00:25:32We gave you the predictive on the pit stops, and here is the way it sorts out about nine
00:25:39tenths of a second difference between the driver, his time, yellow line to yellow line
00:25:43on pit road, and the time of the pit stop.
00:25:47He beat him in every category.
00:25:49You look at Kyle Larson's team overall ranked sixth and Ryan Blaney 23rd as we showed earlier.

00:33:07That guy knew exactly what set up he was looking for and how that car was supposed to feel
00:33:12and could walk them right to victory lane through the seat of his pants.
00:33:16These cars, simulators, all the engineering that's involved in them, not so much.
00:33:21It's about the feedback.
00:33:23It's about the direction.
00:33:24It's about finding the next thing that moves the needle forward.
00:33:27The driver has such a big part in that role of being able to say, okay, this is good,

00:33:37Now, this caution is a big break for William Byron because now they get a chance to reset

00:56:39I've got to wonder if maybe that looseness that he had been fighting, even though they
00:56:41finally got it tightened up some right now, is maybe what's keeping him from picking that
