00:00Wow.
00:11Oh, Laurie, how lovely.
00:19It isn't what it should be, but you have improved it.
00:24Please don't.
00:26I liked you much better when you were blunt.
00:28Natural.
00:30It did not serve me well.
00:36I find you changed.
00:41In fact, I despise you.
00:43You laze about spending your family's money and courting women.
00:47You aren't serious about music.
00:50My compositions are like your paintings.
00:54Mediocre copies of another man's genius.
00:56Then why don't you go to Grandfather in London and make yourself useful?
01:02I should.
01:03Why don't you reform me?
01:10Someone more practical in mind.
01:11I do not love Fred Vaughn.
01:15Fred Vaughn is stable and well-mannered and...
01:18He has 40,000 a year.
01:20I've always known I would not marry a pauper.
01:25I expect a proposal any day.
01:27You'll regret it.
01:28You'll regret it.
01:31I'll regret it.
01:35I'm reminded of a promise.
01:37Didn't I say I would kiss you before you die?
01:44Do you hear from Joe?
01:45Joe, she has befriended a German professor.
01:53Yes, well, no doubt he's showing her the ways of the world.
01:58I do not wish to be courted by someone who is still in love with my sister.
02:03I'm not in love with Joe.
02:06Then how do you explain your jealousy?
02:08I envy her happiness.
02:11I envy his happiness.
02:15I envy John Brooke for marrying Meg.
02:19I hate Fred Vaughn.
02:21If Beth had a lover, I would despise him, too.
02:24Just as you have always known, you would never marry a pauper.
02:29I have always known I should be part of the March family.
02:35I do not wish to be loved for my family.
02:38Any more than Fred Vaughn wishes to be loved for his 40,000 a year.
02:42I do not wish to be loved for his 50,000 a year.
02:43I am.
02:45And you are not worthy of a liar.
02:54No.
02:54No.
02:55No.
02:59No.
