00:00So when you got the job doing the Jets, like I said to someone about you, I said, listen, it doesn't matter what the Jets do, what their record is.
00:11You're the play-by-play voice of the New York Jets.
00:14That's an enormous gig.
00:16Yeah, and it's fun.
00:17It's fun also to have a job in your town, right?
00:20Because like ESPN, I'm everywhere, right?
00:23Whether it was college football, a lot of college basketball.
00:25I really have loved the fact that we've gotten our hands on the NHL, and I've been able to be a part of that.
00:30So that's awesome.
00:31But you're kind of bouncing everywhere piecemeal.
00:35The Jets is New York.
00:36So, and that's where I'm from, right?
00:38I'm suburban New York City.
00:39I'm in Jersey.
00:40Grew up, you know, rooting for that team.
00:42So having that identifiability in this town where I live, it has been great.
00:48How did you land it?
00:50I was the backup guy, kind of like how my entree into hockey, I was the backup Rangers guy to Kenny Albert and Sam Rosen when they would miss for Fox football, and I didn't have a football gig yet.
01:05And that was really my first entree into play-by-play at the Garden.
01:08I would do like 25, 30 Rangers games a year, and fast-forwarding, one of my ESPN bosses that had a lot to say about who was going to be involved in hockey, the most say, remembered me doing those games, listening to me and saying, oh, well, he has a hockey background.
01:25Like, we actually have a guy under our roof that has done this before, and that was kind of the trigger to them giving me a chance to prove I could still do hockey.
01:35The Jets, the same thing.
01:37I was the pre- and post-game host, you know, for the pre- and post-game show.
01:42And Howard David was, at the time, the radio voice of the Jets.
01:48And he also did Monday Night Football for Westwood.
01:52He would do the playoffs, the Super Bowl for Westwood.
01:55He also did Celtics on the radio in Boston and would bounce back and forth.
02:01And somehow he had an agreement where he could miss a couple, three Jets games a year.
02:07And so I was the guy that would be able to jump in and do those games.
02:10And then when he left to go to a different gig, they gave me the job full-time.
02:15Not without a little bit of drama, but I did eventually get the job.
