00:00Look up, look down, look all around. Up in the air or on the ground. Come for a walk, come for a ride. There's so much to see, so come outside.
00:26We're round and brown with a smooth, dry skin. We grow long, thin roots below. Out of our tops grow leaves and flowers. What are we called? Do you know? We're bulbs.
00:56Hello, my dears. I'm doing some gardening today. I love gardening, especially growing flowers.
01:08Where's my other glove?
01:18Where's my other glove?
01:30I suppose I must have left it out in the garden somewhere.
01:36I know who'll find it.
01:48Pippin!
01:52I need your help, Pippin. See if you can find a glove, just like this one. Have a good sniff. Go on, off you go.
02:02Dogs have a very good sense of smell. She'll soon sniff it out.
02:08These are some flowers I've grown. They're called hyacinths.
02:23Mmm, they smell so nice.
02:30They grow from bulbs. Look, you can see the top of the bulb above the soil.
02:45It's grown long, thin roots to take in water and goodness from the soil.
02:53We'll have a look inside it.
03:03You mustn't do this. You might hurt yourself.
03:09It looks like an onion inside. The water and goodness are stored in here, ready to feed the plant and help it grow.
03:21So the plant's got its own little lunchbox.
03:33There.
03:37Mmm, lovely scent.
03:51There.
04:01Haven't you found my glove yet, Pippin?
04:05The springtime flowers are out already.
04:17These yellow flowers are daffodils. You can't see the bulbs. They're under the ground.
04:23That reminds me. Last year, Pippin and I had a day out in Lincolnshire. We saw a field where they were planting hundreds and hundreds of daffodil bulbs.
04:37A big machine was making long furrows in the ground.
04:49At the same time, it was planting the bulbs and covering them up with soil.
04:55In Lincolnshire.
05:07ửnds
05:11Pippin decided to help.
05:31Oh, he had a lovely day out.
05:34I wonder if that bulb Pippin planted has grown a flower yet?
05:38Do you know? It probably has.
05:42And all those other bulbs too.
05:45We'll go and see.
05:47Pippin!
05:49It's time to fly!
06:08Pippin!
06:09Pippin!
06:10Pippin!
06:11Pippin!
06:12Pippin!
06:13Pippin!
06:14Pippin!
06:15Pippin!
06:16Pippin!
06:17Pippin!
06:18Pippin!
06:39Look out for lots of yellow Pippin!
06:42yellow Pippin.
06:53There they are! Fields full of daffodils!
07:12Look at all those flowers!
07:31Is that the one you planted, Pippin?
07:34Yes, I think it probably is. Stay there, I'll take a photograph.
07:42Very nice. Thank you, Pippin.
07:48The people working in the field are picking the daffodils.
07:54They call it cropping.
08:06Look at these. The flowers haven't come out yet,
08:09but they will in a day or two.
08:15Billy picked ten daffodils and put them in a pot.
08:18Nine of them were open wide,
08:21but one of them was not.
08:23Please open, little daffodil.
08:26We'd love to see your face.
08:28You're closed up very small, you know.
08:31You look quite out of place.
08:34But I'm shy, said the daffodil, and held her petals tight.
08:40My flower could look funny, or my face might not be right.
08:45We'll close our eyes and count to three, the yellow flower said.
08:50I'll close mine too, said Billy, and he turned away his head.
08:57So, plucking up her courage, the flower slowly opened wide.
09:03What a beauty, gasped the others that stood on either side.
09:09Well done, said kind old Billy, as he grinned from ear to ear.
09:16You're the finest of the bunch.
09:19See, you had no need to fear.
09:22The little yellow daffodil raised up her yellow head.
09:27But being shy, began to blush.
09:32And then she turned bright red.
09:49This is where they pack the daffodils.
09:52They're in bunches of twenty.
09:55And each bunch has a label.
09:59The label says, English daffodils.
10:08They're put into boxes, and then they're ready to be sent off to the shops.
10:12This room is very cold.
10:31The daffodils are stored in here, waiting for the lorries to take them away.
10:37The cold air keeps them fresh, so they last longer.
10:46When all the flowers have been picked, and all the work has been done, they hold a big parade.
10:52We love a parade when we hear the marching band.
11:01We love a parade when the bugles blow.
11:05Come to the parade, listen to the drummer's drum.
11:09Everybody's having fun at the fest parade we know.
11:18Come see the floats, they're covered in flowers.
11:22Don't they all look wonderful?
11:24And here comes ours.
11:26See the children wave, they're saying hello.
11:30People taking photographs, and on we go.
11:34We love a parade when we hear the marching band.
11:43We love a parade when the bugles blow.
11:47Come to the parade, listen to the drummer's drum.
11:51Everybody's having fun at the fest parade we know.
11:54Everybody's having fun at the best parade we know.
11:58Everybody's having fun at the best parade we know.
12:04Now, Pippin, see if you can't find that glove of mine.
