An 80-year-old woman and her 15-year-old granddaughter were killed in a fire that broke out early Tuesday (May 20) morning at Kampung Pulau Penampang, along the One Borneo road near Kota Kinabalu.

00:00An 80-year-old woman and her 15-year-old granddaughter were killed in a fire that broke out early
00:07Tuesday morning at Kampung Pulau Penampang along the One Borneo Road near Kota Kinabalu.
00:13The charred remains of the victims were discovered at 7.13am and 7.33am, respectively.
00:21Authorities believed the pair were trapped in their room and unable to escape due to
00:25the intensity of the flames.
00:27While other family members managed to escape uninjured, Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station
00:33Chief Ordin Gilu said his department received a distress call at 5.22am.
00:40Three fire teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.
00:43Firefighters arrived around 5.39am to find the house already engulfed in flames.
00:49A vehicle parked nearby was also destroyed.
00:53The fire was brought under control by 5.55am and operations concluded at 8.43am.
01:01A total of 31 firefighters were involved in the operation, supported by personnel from the
01:06Police, Health Department and Sabah Electricity Sendirian Berhad.
01:11The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
