00:00Previously on The Rookie.
00:01Don't puke on him.
00:02This is not my first O.D.
00:04I had this girlfriend back in high school.
00:06I found her after prom in a bathroom.
00:08Four years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer.
00:10Given our continued fallout from the mess
00:13Monica and Blair London created,
00:15Wesley Evers has been assigned here
00:17to make sure we're flying right.
00:19How am I supposed to work next to Angelo Lopez
00:21when all I can think about is how much I want him?
00:23Malvado is a myth.
00:24The criminal equivalent of the boogeyman.
00:26Well, apparently, Southern Front hired him to kill Jason.
00:29We have the same goal.
00:30All you have to do is leave and your problems go away.
00:33I can't do that.
00:39I know you like oat milk,
00:40but the store was out, so I got almond.
00:42I hope that's okay.
00:45Ah, hello, my beautiful wife.
00:47Hey, just wanted to check in and see how it's going
00:49with my newer replacement model.
00:51Hi, Bailey.
00:52Yeah, this lady's not a replacement.
00:53She's, uh, bait.
00:55And no one can replace you,
00:56because you are awesome.
00:58Now, is this really necessary?
01:00We have U.S. Marshals watching the house 24-7,
01:03and Jason is being hunted by a hitman.
01:06Can I please come home?
01:07Yeah, you can 100% come home
01:09if you can look me in the eye and tell me
01:11that Jason's not a relentless psychopath
01:13who would risk everything to get back at you
01:14for betraying him.
01:16Okay, fine.
01:17You win.
01:18But I'm climbing the walls here.
01:19No offense.
01:20Been taken.
01:21I totally get it.
01:22I mean, with Rachel here, it is a little snug.
01:24Hey.
01:25Oh, so have we had any movement
01:27on the mystery woman that Jason
01:28is supposedly shacked up with?
01:29No, but given Jason's history,
01:31I would say she's probably the lonely, wealthy type.
01:34Yeah, which would give him the resources
01:36to stay under the radar.
01:37Okay.
01:38Well, if I can't come home,
01:39can you please pack up some of my things
01:41and give them to Lucy?
01:42I'll text you a list.
01:43Yeah, of course.
01:44And, uh...
01:49Maybe a little later, we can find some...
01:51personal talk?
01:52There will be no personal time
01:54until we're in our own bed.
01:55I will have Jason conned by tonight.
02:02Hey, I just want to reiterate,
02:04I know what I did last week was wrong,
02:06and I take no delight in any of the public fanfare
02:09around my hero moment.
02:10That, our hero...
02:13moment that we had together.
02:14I just, I fell out of my groove
02:16with the whole T.O. swap thing.
02:19So I'm just, I'm happy to be back with my O.G.
02:21Oh, God.
02:23No one likes a suck-up, Ridley.
02:25Let's go.
02:26Yes, ma'am.
02:26Anything you want to add to this side, Mia Coppa?
02:28I'm not looking for any extra credit, sir.
02:30I just want to be prepared as possible
02:32for whatever the day holds.
02:33Preparation is only half the battle.
02:35All I care about is how you perform on the streets
02:37when your adrenaline's high
02:37and you want to be an action star.
02:39Yes, sir. I'll keep the wild horse
02:40locked in the stable, sir.
02:44Check your phone on your own time, please.
02:45Yes, ma'am.
02:48Oh, wow, they just keep coming in.
02:50Okay, seriously, what's going on right now?
02:52I'm sorry, I'm just,
02:53I'm waiting on my test results to come in.
02:55I'm a little bit paranoid.
02:56Oh, that's right.
02:57Well, um, did you get any news?
02:59No.
03:00These are just notifications that my name's
03:02being mentioned somewhere online.
03:04Are you serious?
03:06Yeah, sorry, I'll put it away.
03:07Thank you. Okay.
03:09Wow, they just, they're good.
03:12They're nice comments.
03:12Airplane mode.
03:13Right.
03:16Hey, Mr. Evers.
03:18Welcome back.
03:21Sean, hey.
03:23Just wanted to be here to welcome you back.
03:24The office wasn't the same without you.
03:26I mean, I'm glad to be back,
03:27as is the entire Midwilshire station.
03:28Apparently, they don't appreciate oversight.
03:30Yeah, well, look, I'm sure you have a lot to catch up on,
03:34but the district attorney election
03:35is right around the corner,
03:36and I just wanted to be sure
03:37I could count on your endorsement, man.
03:40Wesley, oh, you are aging backwards.
03:42Oh.
03:44I just wanted to say welcome back,
03:46and make sure you're all squared, pen-wise.
03:48Oh, thank you.
03:49Nice try, Vivian,
03:51but you're not gonna buy your way to a win here.
03:52Don't you find an insecure man such a turn-off?
03:55Ha ha.
03:56I am light years from insecure.
03:59Anyway, I would love your endorsement.
04:01Okay.
04:02Okay.
04:03Bye.
04:03Okay.
04:05You know, in my younger days,
04:06she really would have gotten under my skin.
04:08Right.
04:09Definitely not now.
04:10No.
04:11Hey, Sean.
04:14You have five minutes to talk about something
04:15that's been eating away at the very core of who I am?
04:18Well, that sounds like it's gonna take longer than five minutes,
04:20but yeah, sure, okay.
04:22Thanks.
04:23You're really the only person I can talk to about this.
04:25Um...
04:28I heard something on the Blair London tapes
04:29that has got me spinning.
04:31I thought you turned in your final report on those.
04:33No, I did.
04:34Uh, it's not criminal.
04:35It's...
04:37You know Keith Graham from Midwilshire?
04:38Yeah, sure.
04:39He's a great guy.
04:40Annoyingly handsome.
04:41I mean, he's a solid detective.
04:42He was seeing Blair?
04:43Yeah, and during his sessions,
04:46he revealed that he has recurring...
04:49intimate dreams about Angela.
04:51Yikes.
04:52Yeah.
04:54Well, look, you know that legally,
04:56you cannot divulge any of that to her.
04:59That's a violation of his privacy,
05:01and that puts the two of them
05:02in an incredibly uncomfortable position.
05:03I know, but it's driving me crazy.
05:05Why?
05:06Wes, I, you know, it seems to me
05:08it comes down to how secure you are in your marriage.
05:11He's definitely not the first guy to hit on your hot wife.
05:13He certainly won't be the last.
05:17Wait.
05:19Did you?
05:20No, I plead the fifth.
05:37All right, this is not gonna be easy.
05:39When the CHP calls for mutual aid,
05:42usually because things have gotten messy.
05:45Even for L.A.
05:47Now, wrecks like these
05:50are all about problem-solving and accuracy.
05:52We have to be exact with every word in our reports.
05:55Our measurements can't be off, not even by an inch.
05:57That would mean a change in liability,
05:59and any half-decent lawyer could use that
06:01to discredit our entire investigation.
06:03Oh, that's mildly terrifying.
06:05Which is why I'm making you primary.
06:07What?
06:08Face your fears, Officer Juarez.
06:09But I...
06:10You can handle this.
06:11Tell me you can handle this.
06:12I-I can handle it.
06:14I can handle it.
06:16This is gonna be as fun as putting socks on a rooster.
06:19Come to Chippy's.
06:21He's, like, 50 feet away.
06:22He for sure could have walked.
06:25Afternoon.
06:27Thanks for the assist.
06:28Where do you want us?
06:29Given the circumstances,
06:30we think this should be an LAPD-led investigation.
06:32No problem.
06:33Where will CHP be stationed?
06:34They'll be helping out at the off-ramp.
06:36Oh, over in the shade.
06:38Relieving grateful citizens
06:39from bumper-to-bumper traffic.
06:40That's nice.
06:41We just want the freeways up and running
06:42as quickly as possible.
06:44I told Juarez she's got primary on this.
06:46Bold.
06:47You either want to end her career right now
06:49or you honestly believe in her.
06:50What do you want us to do?
06:51Okay, well, first thing first,
06:52we-we render safety and aid to all victims.
06:55That means that our number-one priority
06:57is clearing a path for the next ambulance.
06:59I got to take this.
07:00Yeah.
07:02What's happening?
07:03Were you able to get that stuff from Lucy?
07:05She was gonna come by here at lunch
07:07and bring it to me.
07:08You forgot.
07:09I'm sorry.
07:10I'm sorry.
07:11She was gonna come by here at lunch
07:12and bring it to me.
07:13You forgot.
07:14Yeah, sorry.
07:15This morning's been just a little chaotic.
07:17But you stay put, I promise.
07:18I'll get it to you tonight
07:19or tomorrow at the latest.
07:20Okay, yeah, stay safe.
07:22I love you.
07:23Love you, too.
07:24Oh.
07:31How far, Boop?
07:3418.6 feet, sir.
07:37Sure about that?
07:38Positive, sir.
07:39Ridley!
07:40Uh, 20. No, that's 20.1, 20.2. It just keeps, it keeps moving. I, oh, I have to, I have
07:49to stand still. Yeah. Okay. 20.2. Okay. That's right. That's right. Hey, what's next?
07:54Okay. Well now, I mean, now you take a million photos. Just make sure you get the scene from
07:59every angle. You search the cars for any open containers, alcohol, drugs. If there's any
08:04indication that this is a DUI, that changes everything. Okay. Okay. Clear. Well, hey,
08:20hey, did you get pictures from underneath the car and above as well? No. No, sorry,
08:25sorry. It's my bad. Listen, I understand there's a lot going on right now, but I can't be holding
08:30your hand every step of the way. Yeah. Time to take the training wheels off there, really?
08:37Can you just lay off? You have no idea what anybody's going through, okay? My girlfriend
08:44died in high school in a car accident, and this whole thing is bringing up a lot of bad
08:47memories. I'm sorry, dude, I didn't know. Just think next time before you speak, okay?
08:53Officer Pratt, you clear this car? Yes, sir. The driver who was critical went off in the
08:58You have anything to make note of this? I'm sorry, sir. I thought we were checking for
09:03beer cans, not firearms. When you're back home, every car you pull over will have a
09:06gun in the glove box. Bag this, please. Juarez? Yes, sir? What about this car? Do we have
09:16any information on this driver? Uh, no. Nobody's talked to him yet, but it is registered to
09:21be a Harrison Novak. Officers! Yes, sir? Double time. Coming. Right there. This is
09:32the LAPD. Is anyone in there? We're gonna get you out. Just hang on. Oh, my God. We
09:40need an ambulance! I'd never seen him before, but he knew me. He was waiting. He called
09:48out Savannah, and when I turned, he sprayed me in the eyes with something. It burned really
09:54bad. I tried to run, but he hit me over the head, and the next thing I knew, I was tied
10:02up in the trunk. We drove around forever. It felt like hours. And he was singing. He
10:13kept replaying the same dumb pop songs, singing along at the top of his lungs without a care
10:19in the world. Well, you're safe now, okay? And the good news is, we know who he is. Officers
10:23are kicking down his door as we speak. Police! Harrison Novak, we have a warrant for your
10:31arrest. Ridley. Clear. Clear. Clear. Clear. This place is giving me the creeps. Feels
11:00like teenage girls live here, not a 40-year-old dude. Get used to it. We're gonna be here
11:03for a minute. There's only property registered in his name. We need to search every inch
11:07of this place. So glove up, tear it apart. Yes, sir. How bad? Physically, she should
11:15be okay. Guy napped her out in public and kept her in the trunk for hours. Being a woman
11:19is consistently terrifying. Then you have a daughter, and it only gets worse. Harrison
11:22Novak was arrested three years ago for burglary and assault. He broke into a woman's home
11:27and choked her. Seemed open and shut, but evidence was compromised, and the prosecution
11:31lost the case at trial to Novak's hotshot lawyer. Who the hell was that? Your husband.
11:37Yeah, I recognize the case. The cops screwed up the chain of evidence, and I got him acquitted.
11:40Why? We found a girl in his trunk in pretty bad shape. He's currently at large, so if
11:44you can give us anything that might help. I'll pull his file and get it to you ASAP.
11:49Let me know if there's anything else I can do. Thanks. You remember the Harrison Novak
11:57case? Uh, yeah. Of course. That's the only time I lost a trial. Why? Novak just abducted
12:01a woman. Maybe not the first. Well, that's not good. For either of us. Hey, I'm sorry
12:15again for not reporting the gun, but I did find out the owner had purchased it legally,
12:19and it was registered. That's not the point. The cars are frequently broken into by criminals
12:23who do not have a license to carry. A weapon not registered to them is a win for the criminal
12:27community. I understand. It won't happen again. You know what? I'm going to recommend you
12:31undergo additional training and testing all weekend, plus an additional three hours a
12:35day for the next two weeks. What? It was a simple mistake. Look, if I can't trust you
12:39to clock loaded weapons in plain sight, what else can't I trust you with?
12:54What's wrong? I lost her. She left the apartment. I got blocked in by a truck. Huh? Come on,
13:08come on. She's ducking my call. Well, you can track her phone, right?
13:24She's headed towards Echo Park Firehouse. Punch it.
13:34Oh, this guy is totally a psycho. He wore his outside shoes right in the bedroom.
13:42Wait, these things got to be caked in evidence, right? Potentially. Take a photo and then
13:46bag them. Hey, Ridley, can I ask you a question about something from earlier? Yeah, that's
13:54not really my favorite way to start a conversation, but sure. A few weeks ago, you told me that
13:58your girlfriend overdosed. And then earlier, I swear, I thought I heard you tell Miles
14:02that she died in a car accident. Yeah. Sorry, I should have made that more clear. Sarah
14:07didn't actually die from the O.D. We got super lucky. My friend's dad is a doctor, and he
14:13came home just in time with some naloxone. And then she died in a car accident? No, that
14:18was a different girlfriend a year later. Savannah was in a one-off. I found this hidden in the
14:22hallway closet. Oh, my God. More victims.
14:30Hello? Hey, counselor. Harrison Novak. You helped me out of a jam a few years ago? Of
14:45course. I'm just finishing up a meeting. Can I call you right back? That's okay. I can
14:49hold. I got time. I've got Harrison Novak on the phone. He wants me to represent him.
14:54What's my ethical obligation here? Do I have to tell him I'm no longer a defense attorney?
14:57Uh, no. But as a prosecutor, the only thing you can't do is agree to represent him. Other
15:01than that, you can tell him anything he needs to hear to keep him on the line. Okay. Angela,
15:04it's Del Monte. I've got your husband here. He's talking to Novak on his cell phone right
15:08now. Hot damn. Sending up a trace now. Okay, I'm putting him on speaker. Wesley, just keep
15:13him talking as long as you can. I'll mute my phone so we can listen. All right, great.
15:17I'm going over to him now. Sorry to keep you waiting. How can I help? No problems. Look,
15:22I know you're a very busy guy, so I will skip the foreplay. I was super impressed with
15:27how you handled my case back in the day, and I find myself in a bit of fresh legal jeopardy.
15:33How bad are we talking? See, I don't like to use that word. Bad. It's a little judgy.
15:39Good, bad, right, wrong. They're all just choices and decisions repressed people use
15:44to keep more free-thinking individuals in a box. Right. Well, I wasn't trying to judge.
15:49I just need to know a little more of what I'm getting into before I commit. I can tell
15:53you this much. Most people might not like what I do, who I am, but everyone inflicts
15:58and contributes to some level of pain and suffering, like step on a bug or cook a steak.
16:04Let's do my version of that, only on a bigger, more connected level with larger and more
16:10conscious animals. Are you saying you've killed people? Are you saying you're my lawyer? Mr.
16:14Novak, I'm just trying to make sure we're both on the same page. This is taking longer
16:17than I'd wanted, and I have a bit of a ticking clock problem. I'd wanted to achieve so much
16:21more by the end of my story. A certain number of accomplishments to make the world take
16:27notice. So, now I find myself having to get into the volume business. Wait, why don't
16:32we get together in person and discuss? I gotta go, but don't worry. You'll probably see me
16:36later tonight on your TV. Wait. Ciao for now. Please tell me you got a location. He's calling
16:42from sorority row. He's gonna pull a Ted Bundy. I'm sending every cop in the city, but I'm
16:47not sure we're gonna make it there in time. Say a prayer.
17:12Who is it? I, uh, Melanie? I think I have your package. It got delivered to my place
17:25by mistake. For you. Thanks so much.
17:43Police!
17:50Police!
17:56Step away!
17:59No!
18:05I got him!
18:10Everybody okay? If any of you ladies are looking to join the LAPD, I'd like to offer a letter
18:15of recommendation written by me, personally.
18:29Get back. This is a crime scene. Let me through. I'm with the DA's office. I need to get in
18:34there. I said back down. Angela! Hold on. Angela! Stand down! He's allowed to be here.
18:39Hey, what happened in there? Please tell me no one's dead. No one is dead. In fact, he
18:42got his ass kicked. Hey, it's okay. You did good. You're the reason we got this guy. I'm
18:49also the reason that he's been free to kill innocent women for the past three years. His
18:53actions are not your fault. You were just doing your job. Okay. Hey, I thought you were
18:59too busy for me. You changed your mind? I'm not a defense lawyer anymore. I'm a prosecutor
19:04now. Tricky. That's how the cops got here so quick. Yeah, you're lucky we did. Those
19:09girls were about to kill you. Get in. We should get him back to the station as soon as possible.
19:14He is a talker. Yeah, go. I'll be fine. You sure? Yeah. Go.
19:22Okay.
19:52Put your hands on the wheel. I'm impressed. Like I care. Who are you? Why are you following
20:07me? Did Jason send you? No. I'm the man hunting your wife's husband. Malvado. I'm not your
20:16enemy. We want the same thing. Jason dead. You're a wanted man. I should call 911. Go
20:24ahead. Have me arrested and spend the rest of your life worrying about Jason. Or you
20:31could let me go and never have to worry about him again. May I? This number cannot be traced,
20:54but messages will get back to me. If you hear of Jason's whereabouts, let me know. And I
21:01won't put an end to your nightmare.
21:24Hey, you okay? Hey, yeah, I'm fine. What were you thinking? Do you have any idea how dangerous
21:29this was? Oh, look, my phone is ringing. The idea was that you stay in the apartment. All
21:36of a sudden I got marshals blowing up my phone, telling me you've gone missing. You almost
21:39gave me a heart attack. Wait, how did the marshals know I left? Are they tracking my
21:43phone? We had a guy posted outside Lucy's apartment. To spy on me? To protect you. In
21:48case Jason saw through the ruse and went after you there. Can we get back in the shop, please?
21:52Why didn't you tell me? That's not the point. What were you even doing down here in the
21:55first place? It doesn't matter. Before we get started, I'd like to get us on the same
22:06page as to how we speak to each other. I mean, we may have different philosophies, but that
22:15doesn't mean we can't be cordial to one another. You don't make the rules here. I think I kind
22:21of do. I mean, you must have a lot of very distressed families who are desperate for
22:26answers, and I am willing to tell you everything. But I expect to be treated like a person,
22:31not a monster. Sure, we can do that. We will just listen. Whatever you want to tell us.
22:39He's on? Yes, you're being recorded. It's not the killing. You'd think it would be. It's
22:54the least interesting part. The anticipation. The planning. That puts wind in my sails.
23:04The killing itself is more like eating for me. Necessary, but not as holistically stimulating
23:12as the lead-up. Now, hunting my victims. Really feeling their fear. That just fills me up.
23:34When the killing's done, I tend to feel a little empty inside. Lonely, even. So then
23:42I have to do it again. These are human beings you are talking about. You don't feel any
23:50kind of remorse. Do you feel remorse when you eat a burger? What did you do with the
23:55bodies? Buried them. Where? How about I show you? All right, you can stay here until the
24:09end of shift, and then Lucy will be here to bring you back to her apartment. I'm your
24:14wife, John. I don't work for you. In case you've forgotten, I literally spent the last
24:18three weeks doing tactical military training in Germany. I don't need you to protect me.
24:23Nolan, Novak gave up the location of his dump site. Unit's on their way. I need you guys
24:27to meet him there. Right. We'll finish this later. Promise. Would you watch her, please?
24:35You're a grown-ass woman. I'm not babysitting you. Thank you.
24:53Hey. Hey there. If you really want to be shooting from the outside, I'm completely
25:17backlit. Hey, no offense, but if you want to have an easy time selling this doc to Hulu
25:21or whatever, you want to see my face and not, uh, random cops. That's what people actually
25:27care about. Something here. Hey, we got something.
25:51Where are they going? I don't know. I didn't bury anyone over there.
26:06They're all wrapped the same. They must be yours. I swear to God, all my kills are back
26:26These aren't mine. I'm going to have nightmares about that burial site. Shouldn't I be more
26:37hardened by now? I should, right? No, your empathy is your best quality. Really? Best
26:43quality. Well, there are certain others. Best discussed in a non-professional setting. Thanks
26:51for coming right over. Yeah, of course. You saw the bodies? Yes, we didn't unwrap any
26:55of them for fear of compromising DNA evidence. They're all being sent to our morgue facility
26:59downtown. Give us the room, guys. Hey, good to see you again. Likewise. Wish it was over
27:05a cafe americano, but here we are. Hi, nice to see you. Uh, who wants to start? I will.
27:10As I told Garza, it seems clear that we have a second serial killer at large. Harrison
27:14Novak has been falling all over himself to take credit for his kills, but he seemed genuinely
27:19shocked when we uncovered those bodies. Do you think he knows who the second killer is?
27:22Maybe, but it feels unlikely. I agree with Nyla. Novak seemed totally thrown by the bodies
27:26and worried that this killer would somehow overshadow him. Okay, so what's our first
27:31step? Mine is a thorough examination of all the victims, which will take days if not weeks.
27:36In the short term, we need to try to figure out a connection between the two killers.
27:39Well, let's say Harper's intuition is right and Novak doesn't know the identity of the
27:43second killer. I mean, it can't be a coincidence that number two used the same green tarp to
27:49bury his victims. He's clearly piggybacking off of Novak's burial site, right? Which would
27:53indicate that killer number two is trying to hide his crimes inside Novak's. Which is
27:57a complete opposite of Harrison Novak, a killer who's desperate for recognition. How did number
28:02two know about the burial site? I mean, they must have crossed paths somewhere, right?
28:06Theoretically, but without even the slightest hint of where to start looking, we're talking
28:09about an infinitely large haystack hiding a very small needle. Hope I'm not interrupting,
28:13but I might have a smaller haystack for you to search. I dug through my notes from the
28:16Harrison Novak case file. When we first met, he mentioned that he had spent some time in
28:20a psychiatric facility. That wasn't in this file. Well, he was 15. Voluntary admission,
28:24not criminal. Which facility? Westview, out in Chatsworth. We've been there before.
28:28Director's a pill. We'll go talk to her. Do you mind expediting a warrant? She's not going
28:32to give us anything unless she has to. Yeah, consider it done. You do know not everyone
28:37suffering from mental illness is a serial killer? Of course, but we did just arrest
28:41one, and he was treated at this facility 15 years ago. So we're not just here because
28:45we heard how personable the staff is. Okay, listen, we know that this is a sensitive subject,
28:50but most serial killers suffer from some sort of psychosis or antisocial personality disorder.
28:55Nice. Which psychology 101 book did you pull that from? I'm about to put her in a different
29:00kind of hospital. With all due respect, we just pulled more than a dozen bodies out of
29:04a field, and now we have a court order for your patient records. Either you give us access
29:08to those records now or later, after you spent the weekend in jail. Are you aware people
29:14suffering from mental illness are actually more likely to be victims of violent crime?
29:18Yes, but that's not relevant at this moment. So are you going to give us the list of patients
29:22and staff who are here with Novak or not? It'll take a while to assemble. You have 12
29:29hours, and we don't do grace periods. I really thought you were going to hurt her there for
29:34a minute. Me too. And you weren't exactly playing good cop either. Whatever gets the
29:39job done. What? Same green tarp? You want to go in? As opposed to calling in 100 cops
29:57to do it for us? No guts, no glory. Control, this is Detective Lopez. Harper and I are
30:06code 6 on a follow-up at Westview Psychiatric Hospital. Start up another unit in case we
30:11come across anything. Copy that, Detective.
30:34You ready? Ready.
30:41You okay? Yeah. I'm just regretting my choice of footwear. I can't believe they still have
31:02all this equipment. You never know when lobotomies will come back in style.
31:17There's something written here.
31:22It may be from an old patient.
31:33I feel like I've seen this movie before. Yeah, but they didn't have guns.
31:40Control, this situation is escalating. Attach a few more units. Code 3. Copy that, Detective.
31:52I am starting to regret more than just my shoe choice. No guts, no glory, remember?
31:57It's not fair using my bravado against me.
32:03Police!
32:19Stop! Police!
32:21Help me! He's coming back! You have to get me out of here! He's gonna kill us!
32:30Are there others? Does he have someone else? I don't know! Please!
32:33He needs medical attention now. Alright, go get him to safety. I got this guy.
32:50Go get him.
33:20Go get him.
33:50Police!
34:13Police!
34:21Police!
34:31Nyla! Here. Are you okay?
34:35No. He injected me with something. I can't feel my legs.
34:39Okay, hang on. There's an ambulance on the way.
34:42This is Lopez. Officer down. Westview basement. Conscious and breathing, but injected with
34:46some type of paralytic and can't move her legs. We need those EMTs down here now.
34:50Copy that, Detective. They're on their way.
34:52He's gonna be okay.
35:04How you doing?
35:05Better. Feelings mostly back. My best guess is short-term paralytic.
35:10Just try not to think too hard about how dirty all the needles were down there.
35:14Probably for the best.
35:16Any sign of our suspect?
35:17No. He clearly had an escape route. Psych hospital just sent the list of patients and employees.
35:23That's a lot of names. FBI's digging in.
35:25How's the guy we pulled out of there?
35:27Remy Darden. He's in rough shape. Hopefully he's stable enough in the morning to talk to us.
35:33And James will be here soon.
35:36I didn't tell him what really happened, just that you suffered a minor injury on the job.
35:40Thanks.
35:42You wanna talk about how scary that was?
35:44Nope.
35:46You wanna hug?
35:47No.
35:51Yes.
36:05Nolan. My office.
36:11Yes, sir.
36:13I got a call from Detroit PD. They pulled Prince from a liquor store robbery last night.
36:18Were they Pete's? They were Pete's, weren't they?
36:20Jason Weiler's.
36:23Detroit, Michigan?
36:24I ran a Viacap search.
36:25There was another hit on Jason's Prince two days before outside of Provo.
36:29Looks like Milvano's got him spooked. He's been heading east, getting as far away from LA as he can.
36:34I'm a little surprised he picked survival over revenge, but I'll take it.
36:38I gave Detroit PD your info. They'll call if they have anything more.
36:42Thank you, sir.
36:43Hold up. One more thing.
36:45I've been overprotective, and if Bailey divorces me, no one will blame her.
36:50If I'm in your shoes, I'm just as crazed.
36:53But you have to live your lives.
36:56Yes, sir.
37:03Where do you think you're going?
37:06Home feels like the wrong answer, but I'm not sure why.
37:10Sawed-off shotgun, dagger, nunchucks, AR-15. Which two violate the same penal code?
37:14Are we doing this now?
37:15You need to know the law cold, no matter how tired you are, no matter how many of the things are going on.
37:19Right.
37:21Sawed-off shotgun and dagger. Violation of 12020, possession of an illegal weapon.
37:25What about nunchucks?
37:26Formerly a violation of 12020, but currently no violation at all.
37:30They became legal in 2023.
37:32Good. You're dismissed.
37:34Sergeant, I appreciate it.
37:37I hauled you all on me, and I dedicated you all to doing the job right.
37:40And I swear I'm not kissing up.
37:42Where I'm from, a lot of cops don't have that same love of diligence.
37:45Some were transplants, but failed from other departments.
37:48They didn't care the way that you do.
37:50You know, I guess I really understand how much I had to learn.
37:53So, thank you.
37:55Dismissed.
37:56Yes, sir.
38:03I know that logically, intellectually, even legally, I'm not to blame for Novak's crimes, but...
38:09Emotionally, I'm struggling.
38:12Well, you're not a robot, Wes.
38:14I mean, I would actually be more concerned if you felt nothing after all this.
38:18But on the bright side, at least you've forgotten about the detective who has the hots for your wife, right?
38:23Well, now I'm thinking about him.
38:24Anyway.
38:25What is this? You're having a wedding?
38:28I'm thinking about him.
38:29Anyway.
38:30What is this? You're having a wake for Sean's political career.
38:34Didn't invite me.
38:35I made a sound only a bat could hear. I figured that would do the trick.
38:39It is so nice to see you retain your sense of humor given the end of your campaign.
38:44I mean, who would elect a DA who is so instrumental in letting a serial killer go free?
38:49Okay, you and I both know that what happened is far more complicated than that.
38:53Of course.
38:54But voters don't do complicated.
38:57You should withdraw before you get embarrassed at the polls.
39:01Really nice to have you back.
39:05She's lovely.
39:16Stay.
39:18Hey.
39:19Hey.
39:20How much do you trust the LAPD background checks?
39:22I'm sorry, why are you at my door asking me that?
39:24Come on.
39:25Okay, so Seth told me that his high school girlfriend died of an OD,
39:29but then he told Miles that she died in a car accident.
39:32I confronted him about it.
39:33He covered it pretty well, said that they were different girlfriends,
39:35but that seems pretty unlikely.
39:39I just can't shake this feeling that there's something off with him.
39:42Look, our background checks are pretty invasive.
39:44Andy would have had to pass a polygraph test, which we both know those are illuminating.
39:49If he was hiding something, I think it would have come out.
39:51You're right.
39:52But you're still not satisfied.
39:53No, I...
39:56I'm sorry.
39:57I...
39:58Okay.
39:59Oh!
40:00Oh, my gosh.
40:01Hey, Coach Joe.
40:05You like a butt scratch?
40:06I miss you.
40:08Feelings mutual.
40:14Look, I know it's late, and I don't have much in the way of food,
40:16but I could order something.
40:19Um...
40:20Um...
40:22Oh.
40:26No.
40:27No.
40:28I should, um...
40:29I'm gonna go, and so have a good night.
40:33You too.
40:34Okay.
40:35Okay.
40:36All right.
40:38Ow.
40:48I'm happy to come back whenever you need me.
40:51I think, uh, we're all set.
40:53Thanks for the offer.
40:55I'm happy to be back, aren't you?
40:57Thank you so much.
40:59Yeah.
41:00All righty.
41:01Bye, guys.
41:02Bye.
41:03See you soon.
41:08I am sorry.
41:11I am sorry for treating you like a damsel in distress
41:14when you are anything but.
41:16You are strong, you are smart,
41:19and you are more than capable of handling yourself.
41:24Sometimes it's just hard to figure out
41:27what kind of help you need from me.
41:29Well, I knew you were coming from a good place.
41:31I just...
41:32In the future, I recommend asking instead of telling.
41:35Agreed.
41:36Let me try.
41:38Would you care to spend some quality personal time with me
41:42in our quality personal bed?
41:45Perfect.
41:48I'm just gonna get us a water.
41:50You know, for after.
41:51Excellent.
41:52Hydrate.
42:06Don't underestimate her.
42:07We are gonna find whoever killed this woman and put them away.
42:10That's how it ends.
42:14Sight Unseen premieres Monday, 10, 8, Mountain, on CTV
42:17and next day on Crave.
42:22Dammit.
