Interview with Jodie Comer and Austin Butler
Transcript
00:00The ending of this movie is so beautiful, but also beautifully ambiguous because you sort of have that last moment between Kathy and Benny.
00:07And it's like he's out of the vandals, but you can see that he he still hears the call.
00:12And specifically for both of you, Austin, do you think Benny stays away for long?
00:18And Jodi, do you think that Kathy, how long does Kathy put up with that before she just says enough?
00:23I mean, I'm also clouded by knowing what actually, you know, kind of knowing what happened after that in real life.
00:30So I don't I feel like I, you know, my judgment's a little a little clouded.
00:36But I think you speak so beautifully about how kind of elusive that moment is, because it's like, yes, he's there and she's got what she wanted.
00:43But is he is he really there? And is he is he truly happy?
00:47You know, but I think. I don't know, I don't want to project, I want people to make their own assumptions.
00:54Yeah, I mean, I have my thoughts of what happened, but I don't want to.
01:02I want to let people feel what they feel.
01:07I like that. I like that feeling after a movie where you're discussing it with each other and you go, well, what do you think happened?
01:13So I don't want to I don't want to project that.
01:15Quite a few people have said actually today that that like that moment has really stuck with them, which I think is quite, you know, as we start doing these interviews and like you hear what people have taken away from it.
01:24It's quite interesting at the end and it's something that's really, you know, kind of lingered with people.
01:29That's really awesome.
01:31Well, because there's that and it's after that wonderful montage of like still shots of the various members of the gang and what happened to them.
01:37And I just remember that's just such a bittersweet closure to the film that you're just, it is wonderful, like you said, to sort of wallow in that ambiguancy and just let it settle.
01:47Yeah, I was struck by the ending when I first saw it because I obviously worked on the entire film and read the script and knew what was happening.
01:54But the first time I saw it, it really hit me, the sort of poetic nature that Jeff told the story.
02:02And it surprised me.
02:04He's really good.
02:05He's really good.
02:07He's really good.
