Three of the escapees are now in custody.
00:04
We have active leads on the other escapees.
00:09
We have approximately 200 agents officers out there.
00:15
People are talking.
00:17
We appreciate that.
00:19
We know that the second person that we got into custody was actually on the national
00:24
crime stop and we'll speak to you again and we'll go through this brief update for you.
00:33
The three people that we do have in custody are Kendall Miles, Robert Moody, and the Kenan
00:41
Dent.
00:42
Those are the three that are currently in custody.
00:45
We want to remind people to call Crime Stoppers at 504-822-1188.
00:53
We always say this is very important that people understand we don't need your name.
01:00
We don't want your name.
01:01
We just want your information.
01:03
And if it does lead to the capture of one of these escapees, it's $5,000 cash and that
01:10
is in addition to what the FBI is offering and I will have the Special Agent in charge
01:16
address that when it gets ready.
01:18
Earlier today, we've been very, very proactive as well.
01:21
We made sure that our children were looked after.
01:28
We sent NOPD cars out to the schools to have a high presence.
01:34
We have removed at least a couple of people who had concerns for their safety.
01:43
We got them to save houses.
01:45
You heard earlier in the broadcast that the hospital always was stepping out to help to make
01:52
sure the judges who had some concern to be also protected in the United States.
01:58
the residents.
01:59
We are now all of the three that were taken from the country that were taken in the world.
02:08
But regardless of who or which agency actually makes the capture, whether it's the U.S. Marshals,
02:15
the FBI, NOPD, SHERF, it does not matter.
02:19
We will deem all escapees as Louisiana State prisoners.
02:28
They will be LSP's prisoners.
02:31
They will not be booked into the Orleans Parish and other arrangements that have been made for those bookings.
02:38
And with that, I'm going to turn it over to our colonel of the LSP and he can give you a little bit more information on that.
02:45
So colonel.
02:46
Thank you, Chief.
02:47
Good evening, everyone.
02:48
Rob Goddard, Superintendent, Louisiana State Police.
02:52
As you see by our support, FBI, U.S. Marshals, and other agencies that are in the field right now,
03:00
actively working with ATF, DEA, Homeland Security Investigations, a lot of federal, all our federal partners,
03:09
as well as other state partners that are here now.
03:11
We're all working in conjunction with the NDPD, our neighboring sheriffs,
03:17
to locate the seven remaining fugitives that escaped from the jail.
03:22
Our responsibility remains consistent across the state of public safety.
03:28
Tonight, through the weekend, by the long it takes,
03:32
we are leveraging all of our equipment, our personnel, our investigative tools and technology
03:38
to ensure that we locate, apprehend, and bring the seven remaining to justice.
03:44
We can't do it alone.
03:46
As the Chief said, we need your help.
03:48
And Ms. Casanza from the Crime Stop is going to speak as well.
03:52
To talk about, you have to call TIPAA, as well as the FBI.
03:57
And in addition, the State Police Fusion Center at 1-800-925-4192.
04:05
That's 1-800-925-4192.
04:09
The State Police Fusion Center, if you have any information regarding the seven remaining,
04:13
any police, police, police, we need your help to make Louisiana safe.
04:19
We recognize that some of these individuals may have left the city
04:23
and moved out into other parishes and possibly have left Louisiana.
04:26
And that's why we have our federal partners here with us
04:29
who have leveraged all of their resources to keep kind of the police safe for all Louisiana.
04:35
So, just again, in regard to our role, yes, we will take custody of the prisoners
04:42
and make arrangements make sure that they are properly booked and relocated
04:47
to one day in the State Prison Center, Louisiana.
04:51
Help me out.
04:55
Thank you, Chief.
04:56
Good evening.
04:58
The FBI remains committed to assisting our state, local, and federal partners
05:03
and recapturing the remaining seven inmates escaped.
05:09
To do this, we need your help.
05:12
We appreciate all the tips we've received so far.
05:15
We have agents and analysts working 24-7 to receive other tips.
05:20
So, please, call and help us accomplish this task.
05:24
It's going to take everybody doing their part to recapture the remaining inmates.
05:28
If you have any information, and it doesn't matter what time of day,
05:32
please call 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit your tip online by going to
05:38
FBI.gov slash eWordsFugilers
05:42
or nautikercrimes.me partners.
05:45
Thank you very much.
05:49
First, I want to thank y'all for that.
05:52
We sent in tips all along.
05:54
You're welcome.
05:55
I'm so successful now.
05:58
I'm interested again.
06:00
I encourage you, see the team behind us.
06:03
All information is being kept.
06:06
That will stay.
06:09
That's an incredible network.
06:11
And you should feel so strong in knowing that public safety is key in taking your own bank
06:17
and your part of the team.
06:19
So if you're a five-star, it's going to be anonymous.
06:21
That's a good number, 822-111.
06:23
We have a $2,000 cash for each of the stages of the rest.
06:28
If the ally has it, find us.
06:30
Make your calls, send the tip.
06:32
Don't do it.
06:34
All right, we'll have one round of questions.
06:36
Let's start with Foxy.
06:37
Do we have any more information about the three OPSO employees that were suspended?
06:46
Good evening, everyone.
06:47
Again, the point of this press conference tonight is to focus on apprehending the seven remaining fugitives.
06:54
We're not going to discuss anything that happened prior to an escape of those offenders or inmates.
07:03
That needs to remain everyone's focus.
07:05
So the tips when you call in, please, we need the public's help.
07:09
It's your city.
07:10
It's your state.
07:11
We want to see your family, your friends, those who came in towns, high school, college graduations this weekend, across the state.
07:19
We need your help.
07:20
So I just respect all the other stations and media that's here.
07:25
These questions were leading to our investigative efforts and efforts to apprehend the seven men.
07:33
I think that's Katie.
07:34
Yes, Katie Rice with CBS News.
07:37
A question for you, two questions.
07:40
First, just in the way you were able to describe about how one of the first inmates that you apprehended was found hiding in a parking garage.
07:49
Can you explain the details a little more clearly about how these other two were apprehended?
07:54
And also then moving forward, do you know, do you have evidence that shows any of these folks have left the state at this point?
08:03
So we have strong investigative means of the remaining seven, confident that they will eventually be apprehended.
08:11
With regard to the three that are in custody now, they were in various parts throughout the city.
08:18
Specifically, their apprehension, although we were able to take them all without any troops to seek medical attention,
08:25
we still had people do sure that everyone was okay in the south.
08:30
But we don't want to really give up the exact how or where we located them specifically.
08:35
Just know that all investigative tools and technology that the law enforcement has were utilized in the apprehension,
08:42
but none more important than the public's help in giving us that information from the crime stoppers really
08:48
as a close fault of the wire in our investigation for this.
08:52
Jonah.
08:52
Hey, can you talk to me a little bit?
08:54
We know about a police president who could absolutely give you anything about their crimes as well as a suspect.
08:59
And also, talk to you about how every second is going to prevent this.
09:03
That's a very good first part.
09:05
Look, there's police officers, sheriffs, deputies, troopers, FBI agents, U.S. Marshmores, ATM agents, HSI agents,
09:13
all over the metropolitan area and throughout the state right now.
09:16
Yes, every second is critical.
09:18
As we get leads and tips, we investigate them from the Office of Safety perspective.
09:23
The Office will make sure we have a lot, a large group, to ensure the safety of the public who's there in that area
09:30
as well as those who are working the investigation and the safe and secure apprehension of those for the future.
09:38
Each second does happen.
09:40
Certainly, the sooner we can apprehend them, the sooner everyone can be rest assured that they are no longer underrepresented.
09:47
It is for violent offenders who escape, and we have to bring them back.
09:53
And they will go to a state prison.
09:55
So, there was a shooting at the Portland Falls East on the Vila recently.
10:03
I believe it might have been an alternative.
10:06
Does that have any connection with this situation currently?
10:11
And there's a separate incident.
10:13
Right.
10:14
So, it wasn't a bad touch up.
10:17
There was all the federal partners who were out there actually.
10:20
a survey list of a target home, and completely independent, they were kind of hurt from home.
10:30
And when they went to that university, they had nothing to do with this material.
10:36
That matter has been helped them.
10:40
No one has been injured.
10:42
No one has been injured.
10:44
No one was involved.
10:46
No one has been injured.
10:48
Last question.
10:50
There's still seven people on the front here.
10:56
We talked to some people in schools that are scared to walk outside.
11:00
Part of the country that I believe is or are they in any danger to walking around the streets?
11:08
What I can say is that we'll speak to the fact that the people who are students like me are dangerous.
11:15
They're not dangerous people.
11:17
Is the general public right now, should they panic?
11:21
The answer is no.
11:23
Now, our number one mission, despite anything else right now, is to get these people in the
11:31
hospital.
11:32
So I think you can still fully enjoy graduation ceremonies tomorrow, having dinner out, the
11:40
things that you would normally do.
11:42
However, we just ask that you are mindful and you're attentive.
11:47
You call us.
11:49
If you think that something is out of order, you call us.
11:53
Sometimes people think, well, I don't want to call 911.
11:55
What if I am wrong?
11:57
But what if you're right?
11:59
And so call us.
12:01
Don't panic.
12:02
Just simply continue living and enjoying life, but just be cautious.
12:08
That's what we have.
12:10
We're going to keep you updated until every single one of them are accounted for and back
12:16
in custody.
12:17
So we think that based on the leads we've been getting, these are active and real leads.
12:22
So keep talking to us.
12:23
We need you.
12:24
All right.
12:25
Thank you all for coming out.
12:26
We appreciate it.
12:27
Should we have any further information?
12:28
We'll see you next time.
