00:00We start in the United States and two people have died and at least 22 have been injured.
00:05It's after a Mexican Navy training ship crashed into New York City's Brooklyn Bridge.
00:10It was during a festive visit to the country.
00:12Footage has emerged showing towering masts of the ship clipping the bridge
00:16as the sailing vessel was passing under the famous structure on Saturday evening.
00:20Parts of the masts reportedly fell onto the deck.
00:23New York City's emergency management said it was responding to an incident
00:27without giving any further details.
00:30Eyewitnesses described the moment the boat made contact with the bridge.
00:34The boat kind of just like was going past the bridge and you just saw the top of it snap off
00:39and it just like kept on snapping and there was...
00:42I think there was a person dangling from the top.
00:45I couldn't tell if it was just through my eyes and we were able to zoom in on our phone
00:50and there was someone dangling from a harness from the top for like at least like 15 minutes
00:54before they were able to rescue them.
00:55Yeah, and then we just stayed the entire time watching the home rescue.
00:58I think the firefighter, everyone just...
01:01They were, someone was dangling from the top.
01:03They were trying to pull him up.
01:04There was a bunch of people up top.
01:06It was just at first like we just didn't know what was happening.
01:09That was a show, honestly.
01:10Yeah, it was...
01:12And then it just kept getting worse.
01:15Well, our reporter Prateekshar Kadeel gave us this update from the scene.
01:19I've been here for just over a couple of hours now and you can see the iconic Brooklyn Bridge behind me.
01:28Pretty dramatic scenes unfolded here just a few hours ago.
01:32We believe it was just after sunset here on the East River that you can see behind me.
01:38When this incident happened, the vessel is supposed to be a Mexican Navy ship, a Navy sail ship, carrying 277 Mexican cadets on board.
01:52Apparently, this is a custom.
01:55It happens at the end of training.
01:57Every year they were on a promotional tour.
01:59There are reports that the ship may have lost power just before the collision and that may have caused the incident.
02:09Dramatic social videos that, social media videos that we've been seeing show us how it slowly went towards the bridge in my background there.
02:20And the masts grazed the very bottom of that bridge with some debris scene falling off.
02:28And this was happening at a time when the bridge was busy with traffic.
02:34There was traffic going both ways.
02:36It's a multi-lane bridge.
02:38There's also a subway that goes there.
02:41But then in the aftermath, of course, it was all shut down and New Yorkers were told to avoid the area.
02:49What do you know about those who've been killed and injured?
02:53Very scant details emerging as of now.
02:56All that we have heard from the mayor is that nobody seems to have fallen into the water.
03:04And there were a couple of cadets reportedly on the masts.
03:10We still don't have clarity who are the deceased.
03:14How did this happen and how did they receive their very serious injuries?
03:18But earlier, the mayor did say that four were seriously injured.
03:23We will discover soon whether the two of the deceased are among those who were seriously injured.
03:29And it seems from the pictures we're seeing that quite a lot of people were watching as this accident happened.
03:36That's right.
03:37Because remember, Brooklyn Bridge is a New York City tourist hotspot.
03:42It's famous.
03:43It's on every tourist guide, every tourist book.
03:46The tourists who come here also, like, straddle it up and down.
03:51They walk the bridge to see panoramic views of the skyline of the New York City.
03:57Very beautiful sunsets and sunrises can be seen here.
04:02Brooklyn Bridge itself, a very old bridge.
04:06It's been here since the 1800s and is quite majestic looking, as you can see.
04:13So, of course, there were people here who were watching this unfold as it happened.
04:18And when the ship seems to have lost slight control, it veered towards the shore where people were standing and watching.
04:26And you can see them running from the scene after that.
