00:00
Hi everyone!
00:11
If you have one, raise your hand and we'll come to you.
00:21
If you're all ready, I'll go to Sam.
00:25
Hi Sam.
00:27
What do you make of the game? Is that a bit of a relief now just to get that second-plane Champions League sorted?
00:32
Yes, that's what we wanted to achieve today.
00:34
We had a few objectives, finishing second, finishing the Champions League spots
00:40
and as well finishing the season in front of our people in the right manner with the right results.
00:45
Those two things have been achieved.
00:47
Obviously for the players and you need to break this summer,
00:50
but for the rest of the club what needs to be done now?
00:53
Well, first of all, we have one more game to play and to finish it in the right way.
00:58
Winning in South London is going to be really important again.
01:01
And then, yeah, go on holidays.
01:03
Time to reset first, bring the temperature down a little bit.
01:07
It's been a long, long season and start to think and reflect in everything that we have planned is the right one.
01:13
Start to make some steps, some action and come back here fresh on day one, ready to go again.
01:19
On the pitch to the supporters after the game, you seemed very emotional,
01:25
it was a very powerful message that you gave.
01:29
Can you talk about your emotions and what you've gone through this season
01:33
and maybe some sense of disappointment but also optimism?
01:37
It was emotional because of the way I feel.
01:40
And it's great, we had a dream, I said it out there.
01:45
It was to deliver a big trophy this season for our people
01:49
and because I think that the team deserves it as well in the journey
01:52
that we've been together in the last three, four years.
01:54
We haven't achieved that and there are a lot of factors and a lot of situations
01:58
that we've been through for the last nine and a half months for that not happening.
02:01
But make sure that we are still valued.
02:06
A lot of the incredible things this club is doing, the team is doing, the players are doing,
02:11
the way we are competing and the consistency that we are showing.
02:15
Because if we are not able to see that, that's a really, really dangerous thing to do.
02:20
Just expecting just something and playing if we don't, that's a really dangerous thing.
02:26
And I know they don't want us there where we are now, knocking on the door every year
02:31
and make sure that we can see clarity.
02:33
We will stay very disciplined and very clear and ambitious with what we want to do in the summer.
02:37
What would be your overall thought and reflection upon the season when you consider that?
02:43
When you talk about how you did out there, we must not be blurred in our vision.
02:48
I would leave that for the summer.
02:50
I've done it in the dressing room and for me it's very clear.
02:53
But I'm there every day.
02:56
I know what we've been through for nine and a half months.
02:58
I know what we've done.
02:59
I know very well the history of this Premier League and the teams that have been
03:03
not in 30% of the situation that we've been in.
03:06
They have collapsed, completely collapsed.
03:08
And we haven't.
03:09
And I really value that because that shows that we have built something
03:12
that is very, very sustainable and consistent,
03:15
regardless if some people don't like to see it.
03:18
Simon, Stanley?
03:19
Mikel, we heard from John O'Kromes before the game,
03:22
the programme talking about the plan to invest this summer in the windows major trope.
03:26
Do you feel going into that window you've got to vacuum from the owners that you need?
03:30
Yeah, but that's not something new.
03:32
I think they always back the team, the club, in the best possible way.
03:38
And it's not going to be different in the summer.
03:40
We have to be very smart with the decisions that we take.
03:42
Obviously, we need players because the squad is really short.
03:45
And on top of that, we are losing four or five players that are going to end contracts
03:49
and the loans are finished.
03:51
So we need to be sharp.
03:53
Again, very disciplined in what we want to do.
03:56
And make sure that we are stronger next season.
03:59
Does the fact that you've now officially got that Champions League qualification mean
04:03
you can literally tomorrow start executing that plan,
04:05
because financially you don't know where you're going to do it?
04:07
I mean, the plan is done and the time will be dictated by many parties,
04:11
many circumstances that, unfortunately, we don't control.
04:14
But we have great people in charge of that.
04:17
And they're going to be leading that with the board and ownership.
04:21
And as well, make sure that the ones that we have,
04:24
they feel valued, they feel loved,
04:26
make sure that they want to continue with us in the right manner.
04:29
And then the whole environment that is excited, you know,
04:33
that is not just about if we next, because we cannot start a season like that.
04:38
And I want to feel that from day one.
04:40
And I'm going to be very insistive on that.
04:45
Is that an Italian man?
04:46
Of course, injuries have been a massive part of the old season this time around.
04:50
So you said on TV about injuries out on the teams,
04:53
and the teams have been 16th and 17th in the...
04:56
But not this season, eh?
04:57
And in previous seasons, in the history,
04:59
an eighth and fifth, missing one or two players only.
05:02
So you said 16th and 17th, was that supposed to be United?
05:05
No, no, no, no, that was in the past.
05:07
In the past.
05:08
And in the past, in five years ago, ten years ago,
05:11
look in the memory and see what has happened in this league.
05:14
Do you think next season, without injuries, obviously...
05:18
I don't know.
05:19
I don't know.
05:21
I will try.
05:22
When I can promise, I will do my very best.
05:24
I will live my life here.
05:26
I will give everything.
05:27
I will get every drop of everybody there, squeeze it, to get the best.
05:31
But promise, I cannot promise.
05:33
I cannot promise.
05:34
I cannot.
05:35
Any manager is going to promise tomorrow.
05:36
Next season, I'm going to win the Premier League or the Champions League.
05:38
If I have to do that, I don't do it.
05:40
Because I cannot promise anybody that.
05:42
My best and the best of these players that are going to try and go mad chasing that,
05:46
I guarantee you that that's going to happen.
05:49
Tom from London.
05:50
Yeah, it was a really special evening.
05:51
I was very lucky to be there as well.
05:52
And yeah, I do feel it.
05:53
And we don't take it for granted.
05:54
And we want to sustain that and give them joy.
05:55
And I think it's a really special evening.
05:56
I was very lucky to be there as well.
05:57
And yeah, I do feel it.
05:58
And we don't take it for granted.
05:59
And we want to sustain that and give them joy.
06:00
And then they can feel proud about this football team, the individuals, the values that we
06:03
have as a football club and how we represent them.
06:06
And in the meantime, I think the players can be in that room and hear that noise.
06:09
Do you get the sense that those fans that were there so close do get the sense and have
06:11
that belief that they will go again next season and be able to do it?
06:12
Yeah, it was a really special evening.
06:13
I was very lucky to be there as well.
06:14
And yeah, I do feel it.
06:17
And we don't take it for granted.
06:20
And we want to sustain that and give them joy.
06:24
And then they can feel proud about this football team, the individual, the values that
06:28
we have as a football club and how we represent it.
06:31
And then we win.
06:32
And if we can achieve all of that in once, then great.
06:37
When you talked about feeling the love from day one, have you sort of felt the need to
06:42
maybe stress a bit of patience, get that message about patience and not get frustrated
06:47
by finishing second but keeping everybody on board and looking at how far you come and
06:51
look at it now?
06:53
I don't know.
06:54
I think it's now we finished second for the third season.
06:57
In the last three seasons, there is one team that has been better than us in 12 points,
07:00
which is Manchester City, which is the best team in the history of this league by a mile.
07:05
And we are there.
07:06
And Liverpool has a trophy.
07:07
We don't have a trophy.
07:08
We are in the Champions League semi-final for the last 16 years.
07:10
And we are unsatisfied and upset.
07:13
And it's not good enough.
07:15
Great.
07:16
Let's go for the next thing.
07:17
But I think we're in the right trajectory, hopefully.
07:20
OK, last couple.
07:21
Phil from PA.
07:22
Just sort of following off on that, do you feel that the fans are still 100 per cent behind
07:27
you and this group of players?
07:30
That's what I feel.
07:31
But I don't know.
07:32
The ones that I see every day in the street, the ones that they contact me, the ones that
07:37
I see every day, I would say that 100 per cent.
07:40
But they want more because we have set the expectations and they've seen the team that
07:45
is capable against any opposition to compete against them.
07:49
So we need to believe that we're going to do it together.
07:52
And finally, Nick from Haters.
07:54
I'm going to talk to your victory.
07:55
You've made three significant substitutions with fight habits coming on here in Tierney
08:01
and Jorginho.
08:02
Just a word on those players in your thoughts.
08:05
Well, the first one because of an injury of Willy.
08:08
I think he felt something in his hamstring in the first half, unfortunately.
08:11
So we had to make the substitution.
08:13
And with the other two, Yekai, I mean, he's been incredibly fast in his recovery.
08:20
I think the doctors were a bit easy too early, but he's been pushing it and he thought he
08:24
could help the team and with Kieran as well.
08:27
You know, he had a very special circumstances, the way he had to come back and settle in the
08:32
team again after four months out.
08:34
And he's been really good with the group and he has contributed.
08:37
in every possible way to help us.
08:40
And very grateful for that.
08:41
And quite emotional for them as well, possibly their last games.
08:45
Yeah.
08:46
Yeah, we had a few in that dressing room that probably is going to be the last time that
08:50
they put that shirt at the Emirates.
08:52
So I've been there and make sure that we are close to them.
08:56
And I'm very grateful to them as well.
08:57
Okay, cool.
08:59
Yeah.
