00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the guest appearances on
00:11NBC's Saturday Night Live that came out of nowhere to shock audiences.
00:2550.
00:26Mike Myers
00:49This isn't the last time you'll see this beloved SNL alum appear on our list today, nor will
00:53it be the last time you'll see him play an evil genius, but more on that later.
00:57For now, we're focusing on Myers' left-field cameo as the world's richest man.
01:08In a sketch parodying a truly disastrous meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump
01:31and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, Myers unexpectedly popped up as Elon Musk.
01:37Pressing resemblance aside, the Wayne's World and Austin Powers star is the perfect marriage
01:41of actor and subject, with Myers' knack for zany physical comedy embodying Musk's, well,
01:46let's call them eccentricities.
01:5549.
02:07Jesse Pinkman
02:24Remember the Breaking Bad fever that swept the globe in the AMC crime drama's final season?
02:29Like Beatlemania for hardened meth kingpins, Breaking Bad was seemingly everywhere in 2013.
02:35Even on the SNL main stage, the cold open of the 39th season premiere featured Jay Pharoah
02:39reprising his scary-good Barack Obama impression to espouse the values of the Affordable Care
02:44Act, or Obamacare.
02:46The president brings out a motley crew of Americans who give testimonials as to Obamacare's
02:50awesomeness.
02:51One of those Americans?
03:11Multiple Emmy winner Aaron Paul, reprising his role as Breaking Bad's Jesse Pinkman.
03:16Pinkman shares a very familiar story about the consequences of a lack of affordable healthcare,
03:21but given that the show's series finale aired the next day, declines to give away the ending.
03:5248. Ryan Reynolds and Tracy Morgan
04:18Like former cast member Will Ferrell hosts, all bets are off.
04:22Take this season 45 monologue, for instance.
04:24Although the actor's efforts to rile up the crowd seem to go off without a hitch, he's
04:28almost immediately derailed by the distracting presence of his spirited co-star Ryan Reynolds.
04:40Not only is the dreamy Deadpool star distracting in and of himself, Spirited wouldn't come
04:58out for another three years after this sketch aired, making it even more surprising that
05:02the two were pals.
05:03Ferrell's rhythm is completely thrown off, and he only digs his hole deeper and deeper.
05:09But once he starts doing a Tracy Morgan impression, the real Morgan steps in to bail him out of
05:13his awkward encounter.
05:1647.
05:30Jim Gaffigan
05:50In the run-up to the 2024 United States presidential election, there was only one question on the
05:55nation's mind.
05:56If Maya Rudolph is playing Vice President Kamala Harris on SNL, then who would be taking
06:00on the role of her genial folksy running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz?
06:04While big names like Steve Martin and Jason Sudeikis were floated, with Martin even admitting
06:09that he turned down Lorne Michaels' offer, the part ultimately went, rather unexpectedly,
06:13to comedian Jim Gaffigan.
06:19The choice came as a surprise to SNL fans, given that Gaffigan had no prior connection
06:40to the show.
06:41Nevertheless, Gaffigan's Walz impression, which the comedian has since revealed is based
06:45on his brother, was a hit, and he returned for a series of cameos.
07:0846.
07:09Joe Jonas
07:29By now, chances are you've heard of the whole Morgan Wallen get-me-to-God's-country controversy.
07:34Worthy uninitiated, the country singer was booked for his second SNL gig on the 50th
07:39season's 15th episode hosted by Oscar-winner Mikey Madison.
07:42Rumors swirled that Wallen had clashed with the show's cast and crew, and savvy internet
07:46commentators pointed to a pre-taped sketch in which he had declined a role that was written
07:50for him.
07:51Scrambling to find a replacement, the SNL team settled on the middle Joe-bro.
07:55Wallen, meanwhile, created further controversy upon his abrupt exit from the SNL goodbyes.
08:1445.
08:15Charlie Day
08:39Was anyone else pumped to see this impromptu Horrible Bosses reunion on SNL?
08:43Well, maybe it's just us, but either way, it's hard to deny the hilarity engineered
08:47by the grouping of Jason Sudeikis, Jamie Foxx, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star
08:51Day.
08:53In line with the main Justice Sketch's recurring
09:18premise, cast member Bobby Moynihan plays an out-of-towner who has the misfortune of
09:22winding up in a wildly colorful, weirdly Cajun courtroom.
09:25Antagonized by Foxx and Sudeikis' respective bailiff and judge, Moynihan's character is
09:30pushed further into a corner by Day's local congressman, whose near-incomprehensible speech
09:34doesn't bode well for the defendant.
09:5244.
09:53Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms
10:14In the face of overwhelming adversity, you just have to believe in yourself, and then
10:18react completely incredulously when you find out you failed.
10:21That's the basic premise of this Season 38 sketch, in which episode host Zach Galifianakis
10:26demands answers as to why he's lost a Jennifer Aniston look-alike contest.
10:48Galifianakis' on-stage tantrum is exacerbated when the actual winners take the stage.
10:52That would be Bradley Cooper and Ted Pelms, aka Galifianakis' Hangover co-stars Bradley
10:57Cooper and Ed Helms.
10:59Eventually, Galifianakis comes around, and a stage full of Aniston hopefuls belt out
11:03That's What Friends Are For, which they inexplicably seem to think is the Friends theme song.
11:2643.
11:27Jennifer Aniston
11:28Hey, another Jennifer Aniston-centric entry?
11:50What a coincidence!
11:51Almost like we planned it that way.
11:52Anyway, this weekend update bit initially seems like an excuse for Vanessa Bayer to
11:56trot out one of her signature impressions.
11:58Not that we're complaining, of course.
11:59Bayer's gift for impressions consistently made her a joy to watch on SNL.
12:03Bayer's Rachel Green mercilessly spoofs 90s sitcom trends, at least until the actual
12:29Aniston shows up.
12:30And we're not talking Bradley Cooper and Ted Pelms.
12:33Confronting Bayer about her impression, Aniston eventually gives in to the SNL cast members'
12:37fangirling, and the two have a sort of Rachel-off.
12:40The 90s are truly forever.
12:5242.
13:04Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro
13:06The United States was a wild, chaotic place during the first Trump presidency.
13:32The same could be said of Saturday Night Live around the same time.
13:34At the White House and ongoing media circus, SNL pounced on the news coming out of it with
13:39a cavalcade of high-profile guest stars.
13:58Two of those recurring stars included Ben Stiller as Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen, and
14:02Oscar-winner Robert De Niro as former FBI director Robert Mueller.
14:06The actors, who had appeared onscreen together as part of the Fockers franchise, reenacted
14:10a scene from Meet the Parents on SNL — in character, of course.
14:1441.
14:36Adam Sandler
14:59If you're at all familiar with the Happy Gilmore and Uncut Gem stars' tenure at Saturday
15:03Night Live, then you'll likely know that it ended less than amicably.
15:07Sandler, alongside friend and fellow cast member Chris Farley, was unceremoniously fired in 1995
15:13and didn't appear on the show again until 2019, when he hosted for the very first time.
15:26Since then, Sandler and series creator Lorne Michaels appear to have patched things up,
15:31with the comedian appearing in this gross-out sketch during a December 2024 episode hosted by
15:36Chris Rock. Nearly everyone in the sketch broke, and Sandler himself is only partially to blame.
15:5640. Psy
16:01Time for another stroll down memory lane. Remember Gangnam Style? The song and its
16:25accompanying dance craze were, as anyone around in 2012 could have told you, completely inescapable.
16:31As such, it was fairly easy to predict that SNL would tackle the ubiquitous Korean phenomenon in
16:43some way. And tackle it they did, in truly spectacular fashion on the Season 38 premiere
16:48as hosted by Seth MacFarlane. A sketch set at a Lid store finds its staff having fun with a
17:10button that spontaneously summons Bobby Moynihan's poorly-aged Psy impression. Things only escalate
17:16until Psy himself is unveiled as the sketch's final boss, so to speak.
17:3339. Jake Gyllenhaal
17:4640. John Mulaney
17:51You have John Mulaney to thank for this weirdly specific cameo. Mulaney's 2018 sketch Diner
17:56Lobster started a series featuring several sequels, each of which focuses on a food item
18:01you just don't order from wherever that particular sketch is set. In this case,
18:05a traveler's attempt to buy airport sushi goes about as well as you would expect.
18:1740. Jake Gyllenhaal
18:22The sketch goes on to poke fun at the often bizarre things one might witness at the airport.
18:26One such oddity is Jake Gyllenhaal's guy-who-always-travels-in-pajamas
18:30performing a riff on Wicked's Defying Gravity, which speaks for itself.
18:4738. Trisha Paytas
18:54Is this a clip from the podcast?
18:56Hey, my galactic bastards. My ass is so hard for today's episode.
19:00Our guest is friend of the pod, the iconic Trisha Paytas.
19:08What do we always say, Trisha?
19:10The best bussy is celibacy.
19:14It's kind of an unspoken rule that after the SNL musical guest's second performance,
19:18the show starts to slightly go off the rails. Such was the case on this December 2024 episode
19:24hosted by Gladiator 2 star and Oscar nominee Paul Meskel. After Shaboosie performed his
19:29smash hit A Bar Song, four friends touch base and compare their respective Spotify-wrapped playlists.
19:34Spotify-wrapped is not about judging people. It's about sharing the soundtrack of your life,
19:40and call me crazy, but I think that's something to celebrate.
19:44Did someone say celibate?
19:47Oh my God, Satoshi Gutman and Trisha Paytas?
19:51What are you doing here?
19:53Meskel's character brags that anti-instrumentalist sound guru Satoshi Gutman,
19:57as played by Bowen Yang, is his number one artist. As Meskel's friends try to figure
20:01out exactly what that means, his character pulls up one of the Off-Kilter Gutman's podcast episodes,
20:06featuring none other than polarizing YouTuber and viral sensation Trisha Paytas.
20:11Me and my king Satoshi, we're just speedwalking in the area.
20:14So what do you say, bastards? Should we vibe to some Ace Corps?
20:17Yeah!
20:19I'm just normal, but then y'all made me celibate.
20:34Bill Hader's departure from SNL was bittersweet for many reasons. Perhaps chief among them was
20:39the fact that it meant Hader's fan-favorite character Stefan would no longer appear on
20:43a semi-regular basis. Given Stefan's popularity among the show's audience,
20:47SNL succeeded admirably at giving the character a proper send-off.
20:50I'd like to say hi to our lady, Stefan! For Weekend Update, he is Seth and Stefan Myers!
20:57Good night!
21:00Keeping in line with the running Weekend Update gag that Stefan and host Seth Myers were
21:04romantically involved, Stefan dramatically runs off the Weekend Update set after Myers fails to
21:09commit. Myers is convinced by Amy Poehler to chase after Stefan and prevent him from getting
21:13married to CNN's Anderson Cooper, who is depicted as Myers' mortal enemy.
21:19Get ready for Anderson Cooper 360.
21:32Why can't I go in there? I'm the real Mark Zuckerberg.
21:35Yeah, and I'm pretty sure at least one of those guys is the real Mark Zuckerberg.
21:39No, I am! That guy's like my evil twin, and that's just Andy Samberg.
21:44Those guys are such nerds. Come on, I invented poking.
21:47How many Bergs is too many? That's what this January 2011 episode hosted by Oscar nominee
21:53Jesse Eisenberg attempted to find out. Eisenberg, hosting to promote the social network in which he
21:58plays Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, is confronted by Andy Samberg's Zuckerberg
22:02impression in his monologue.
22:04You know, Jesse, I don't know if it came out right.
22:12Hi, uh, thank you for, thank you for coming here.
22:15Wait, have you two not met?
22:19No.
22:21Awk-berg!
22:23In a distinctly meta twist, the real, real Mark Zuckerberg is revealed to be backstage
22:28with Lorne Michaels, who seemingly doubts Zuck's identity. After the two Bergs compare
22:33notes on playing Zuckerberg, Mark and Jesse have a predictably awkward interaction,
22:37in which Zuck reveals his true feelings about the social network.
22:40I, uh, really, really, really liked you on 60 Minutes.
22:45Thanks, man.
22:46Yeah.
22:47You ever end up, uh, seeing, seeing the film, the social network?
22:52Yeah, I did.
22:53Cool. Oh, thanks. Uh, and, uh, what did you, uh, what'd you think?
22:57It was interesting.
23:03Papa!
23:24Two Jagger cameos for the price of one. What did Lorne Michaels ever do to get so lucky?
23:28When Puerto Rican pop sensation Bad Bunny did double duty as host and musical guest in October
23:332023, he had a murderer's row of talent backing him up. Featuring multiple cameos from Pedro
23:38Pascal, a pre-taped appearance by Fred Armisen, and even a drop-in by Lady Gaga, all were dwarfed
23:44by the almost inexplicable appearance of the legendary Rolling Stones frontman in not one,
23:49but two separate sketches.
23:59Who the hell is this?
24:11In the first, Jagger plays Papa to Bad Bunny and Marcelo Hernandez's characters in a
24:16telenovela parody. In the second, he's Sister Kevin, a bad influence to a misbehaving convent
24:21of nuns. Sure, why not?
24:24I was the one who corrupted these poor women with my lips and my hips. And I was the one
24:32who rang the bell with my penis and yelled, ding dong!
24:41Hi, I was Hillary Clinton's vice presidential running mate. At the time, you said it was the
24:46most important election in American history, and that democracy was on the line. It's been less
24:52than eight years. What's my name?
24:54Former SNL writer John Mulaney is already a classic modern-day SNL host, and one of the
24:59show's fastest to ever hit the revered five-timers club. So you already know that whenever he hosts,
25:05it's gonna be must-watch TV. Case in point, this edition of recurring sketch What's That Name?,
25:10in which Mulaney's character is quizzed on figures of the then-upcoming 2024 election.
25:15I'll give you three options for what his last name was. Tim Clinton, Tim Tim, or Tim Scott.
25:23Oh, two of those don't sound real. I'll go with Tim Tim.
25:28Audience, what's that name?
25:29Tim Scott!
25:32It's Tim Kaine!
25:36Who is?
25:36After proclaiming it the most important election in American history, Mulaney was flabbergasted
25:42by the appearance of Virginia Senator and Hillary Clinton's 2016 running mate, Tim Kaine.
25:47Kaine devastatingly reminds Mulaney that he had also referred to that year's election as
25:51the most important ever. Oof, how people forget.
25:55Pictured here are three of the most famous faces on Mount Rushmore,
25:59but who is this guy? Come on, bring that guy back out.
26:07What's my name?
26:08No, no, ah, ah.
26:13I just told you 90 seconds ago.
26:15Number 33, Dan Crenshaw.
26:18Lieutenant Commander Dan Crenshaw, everyone. Thank you so much for coming.
26:22Thanks for making a Republican look good.
26:25You gotta stop saying that, man. He's been saying it all day.
26:30We, look, I just wanted to say, for people that don't know,
26:34the reason you're wearing an eye patch right now is that you lost your eye to
26:37an IED in Afghanistan during your third combat tour.
26:41This is a cameo that came as a shock at the time, but makes all too much sense in retrospect.
26:45In November 2018, Pete Davidson appeared on Weekend Update to roast Republican candidates
26:51in that year's midterm elections. His joke about former Navy SEAL Dan Crenshaw landed
26:55him in hot water with conservatives, which led to the only possible way that Davidson
26:59could redeem himself.
27:01Last week, I made a joke about a picture of you, and I feel like
27:04it would only be fair if you got me back and made fun of a picture of me. Does that sound okay?
27:09I don't really need to do that.
27:10No, come on, I deserve it.
27:11All right, I'll do one.
27:12Please? All right.
27:13And now, first impressions with Lieutenant Commander Dan Crenshaw.
27:19Thanks, Colin. This is Pete Davidson. He looks like if the meth from Breaking Bad was a person.
27:27That would be getting roasted by Crenshaw himself the following week.
27:30As part of a merciless, unsparing roast fest, Crenshaw compared Davidson to Martin Short's
27:35Jack Frost from the Santa Claus 3, and also referenced the SNL cast members'
27:39recent breakup with pop star Ariana Grande.
27:42So we good?
27:43We're good. Apology accepted.
27:45Just keep breathing for me.
27:53You're gonna answer that?
27:55No, I was just gonna let it ring, because that's rude to answer. Let's just let it go to voicemail.
27:59Nah, it's cool. Ariana Grande is my girl, man.
28:04Number 32, Lindsey Buckingham.
28:07Ladies and gentlemen, this is exciting. Put your hands together for another Lindsey Buckingham!
28:15Go, Lindsey!
28:27If Kenan Thompson is gonna be on SNL for the rest of time, then so be it. But why,
28:31then, can't we have more What Up With That? At one point considered the versatile Thompson's
28:36signature sketch, the bit went away with Jason Sudeikis and Fred Armisen's respective departures
28:40from the show. One of its recurring gags was Bill Hader's non-speaking role as Fleetwood
28:44Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, who would be invited back week after week after consistently
28:49being denied a chance to be interviewed by Thompson's overzealous DeAndre Cole.
28:53And Lindsey Buckingham, who cut his family vacation short to join us.
28:59All right.
29:00Finally, a May 2011 episode hosted by Ed Helms allowed the actual Lindsey Buckingham to deliver
29:06a rip-roaring acoustic guitar solo. Not that Cole seemed interested as to why there were two
29:10Lindsey Buckinghams.
29:11After all these years, I never knew there were two Lindsey Buckinghams.
29:17How did this happen?
29:19Should have let him talk, man. He would have told you.
29:23I'm sorry, Lindsey. Can you ever forgive me? Come on, Lindsey.
29:28There you go, Lindsey. That's what I'm talking about. All right.
29:33Number 31. Stormy Daniels
29:35Stormy, this is Michael Cohen. Are you alone?
29:40Yes.
29:41And what are you wearing?
29:43Excuse me?
29:47Okay, Michael, I can take it from here.
29:49Okay, but as your attorney, I highly advise against you.
29:55So what up, girl?
29:56Originating from yet another first-term Trump-era sketch with a boatload of celebrity cameos,
30:01it was almost hard to choose who to pick. From Martin Short's boorish Harold Bornstein
30:05to Jimmy Fallon and Scarlett Johansson's slimy Jared and Ivanka,
30:08this season 43 cold open had everything going for it.
30:12Come on, Stormy. Stop making such a big deal about this. Everyone knows it's just an act.
30:16I work in adult films. We're not really known for our acting.
30:22Just tell me, what do you need for this to all go away?
30:26A resignation.
30:27Yeah, right. Being president is like doing porn. Once you do it, it's hard to do anything else.
30:33Airing in the dead heat of the former adult film star's legal battle with President Trump,
30:38the studio audience's bewildered reaction to Daniel's appearance pretty much says it all.
30:42While A Storm wasn't exactly a coming, as we all know now,
30:46Stormy felt like a major, especially topical get for the show.
30:50Sorry, Donald, it's too late for that. I know you don't believe in climate change, but
30:54a storm's a coming, baby.
31:02I've never been so scared and so horny at the same time.
31:05And live from New York, it's Saturday night.
31:09Number 30, Daniel Craig. When Rami Malek and Kenan Thompson audition to play a music icon,
31:14they try to match Prince's singular energy.
31:16So the only way to settle this is to have a Prince-off.
31:19A Prince-off, sir?
31:21What the hell is a Prince-off?
31:22The two each put their own spin on the musician until Daniel Craig interrupts them.
31:27Thinking he's auditioning to play a literal prince,
31:29the James Bond star arrives in his own silly outfit.
31:32Sorry. Sorry, Daniel Craig.
31:34To audition for the part of the prince.
31:36The British performer is also game for anything with a goofy appearance.
31:39He's not afraid to make fun of himself, showing that he doesn't take his profession too seriously.
31:44His impressions end up winning over the audience in a major way,
31:47stealing the sketch and the role.
31:49Craig reminds people of his comedy chops.
31:51How was that?
31:52That was bad.
31:54But you're James Bond, so you got the part.
31:58Number 29, Glenn Powell.
32:00In this monologue, Sydney Sweeney pokes fun at her celebrity status and personal life.
32:04One of the funniest moments comes when she addresses
32:07her rumored affair with co-star Glenn Powell.
32:09That's obviously not true.
32:13Me and my fiancé produced a movie together, and he was there the entire shoot.
32:17This leads to a hilarious cutaway, with Powell there to deliver a silent performance.
32:22He even came here tonight to support me. Can we, uh, cut to him?
32:25It's nice to see these Anyone But You stars
32:27still working together and playing pranks on their fans.
32:30Turning their fake relationship into a joke, both stars find a way to laugh off the tabloids.
32:35They aren't a couple in real life, but they certainly have enough chemistry to pull off this moment.
32:39That's not my fiancé. He's in my dressing room,
32:41and we've got a great show for you tonight.
32:43Number 28, Mark Hamill.
32:45On this home shopping show, the presenters try to sell off Star Wars collectibles.
32:49The segment then takes a shocking and hilarious turn when they bring out Mark Hamill.
32:53How's it going, everybody?
32:54Now, how much is this item going for?
32:56Beautiful item.
32:57Appearing to be a hostage, the actor tries to go along with this ridiculous situation.
33:01Hamill has to contend with the inept hosts and even deliver some memorable quotes.
33:05Just play ball, Hamill. Let's do it.
33:07Just play ball. All right.
33:10Luke, I am your father.
33:19Uh, I'm sorry, man. That sucked.
33:21There are a few more surprises as the sketch continues,
33:24including an entertaining interaction with Harrison Ford.
33:27The Luke Skywalker performer gets to show off some of his vocal impressions
33:30and joke about his breakthrough role.
33:32With this enjoyable premise,
33:34the guest helps to satirize crazed fan bases with this appearance.
33:38Are you sure that's really Hamill?
33:39We guarantee.
33:40Oh, come on. Of course it's me. We worked together three times. Come on.
33:44What the hell? I'll take him.
33:49Number 27, Travis Kelce.
33:52On this sports program,
33:53the presenters mention the prevalence of Taylor Swift at NFL games.
33:57The guys then go off the rails mentioning various references to the musician,
34:01her relationships, and her music catalog.
34:03It's so early, you're treating it like it's Joe all over again. That won't end well.
34:07Don't, didn't you listen to Karma?
34:09What? Karma's not about Joe.
34:13It all culminates in a funny cameo from Travis Kelce.
34:16The latter just wants to talk football, but only has a brief moment at the end to say his piece.
34:21When we get back, we are going to speak with someone who actually wants to talk football.
34:27Yes, please.
34:29Kelce adds a ton of charisma to the sketch,
34:32as he avoids talking about his high-profile romance with Swift.
34:35It's even more surprising to see the athlete show up as the partnership hit viral status.
34:39Number 26, Julia Stiles.
34:42Appearing on Weekend Update to discuss holiday gift ideas,
34:45Chloe Fineman offers up a unique substitute to the usual cliches.
34:49The perfect holiday gift this year is the dance that Julia Stiles does
34:53at the end of the 2001 movie Save the Last Dance.
34:58She reenacts a scene from Save the Last Dance with all of its unintentionally hilarious details.
35:04Fineman also welcomes the film's star, Julia Stiles, to help her complete the routine.
35:08So does she get into Juilliard?
35:11Yes!
35:14Fans of the 2001 movie will enjoy the performer's strange moves,
35:17not to mention the bizarre context behind the entire performance.
35:21Stiles steps in with all the confidence of her original role.
35:24Her appearance elevates the segment into a goofy and nostalgic takedown of the teen romance.
35:29Okay, so Colin, what did you think?
35:31Well, I can't say this on the record yet, but welcome to Juilliard.
35:37Number 25, Nicolas Cage.
35:39In a recurring segment, Andy Samberg plays Nicolas Cage
35:43and welcomes other actors to chat about his profession.
35:46This time, he welcomes the real man in a fun subversion of the premise.
35:50Well, good evening, Nick. You're looking very well tonight.
35:53Well, that's very kind of you, Nick.
35:57You look great, too.
35:59Cage plays along with Samberg's impression, but he also throws out some hilarious critiques.
36:03The star takes aim at his co-star's exaggerated features and over-the-top delivery.
36:08This Nick is calm and stealthy like a ninja warrior.
36:12Whereas this Nick is an exaggerated, screaming psychopath.
36:18Just doesn't exist.
36:20They even come together to satirize Cage's filmography,
36:24discussing the outrageous elements of his projects such as Ghost Rider.
36:27The absurd idea also has both men complimenting each other before it's all over.
36:31In the end, they hint at their next adventure with an incredible reference to national treasure.
36:36The time has come for us to ride on to our next adventure.
36:40What is that?
36:42We're gonna have a three-way with a declaration of independence.
36:49Instead of using three bachelors,
36:51this dating show includes two iconic duos from SNL history.
36:55Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg reprise their roles as the R&B singers,
36:59bringing their own compositions with hilarious lyrics.
37:02Hey, girl.
37:05You sound like a real tenderoni.
37:08Tenderoni.
37:11So come take a ride with us.
37:14The other competitors are the Festrunk Brothers,
37:16better known as the Wild and Crazy Guys.
37:19Your swinging dream dates have finally arrived for you.
37:26So get ready to take a hike because we are two wild and crazy guys.
37:34With a sketch this chock-full of legends, you can't go wrong.
37:37There are enough funny references and jokes in here to make you forget the original premise.
37:41It's especially fun to see Dan Aykroyd and Steve Martin
37:44return with the same energy as they brought in the 1970s.
37:47Even if the scene flies off the rails,
37:49the performers still bring the laughs in this endlessly entertaining segment.
37:53We've had two ways, three ways, about to have fun.
37:56Cause we're four wild and crazy guys.
38:01Number 23.
38:02Janet Reno.
38:04Taking on an unlikely role, Will Ferrell made the most of his Janet Reno impression.
38:08Hello, everybody.
38:09Well, here it is.
38:10My last day as attorney general and the farewell episode of Janet Reno's dance party.
38:17Zip it.
38:18Just zip it.
38:19His version of the politician loves to dance and has a stubborn personality,
38:23making the real woman's cameo even more surprising here.
38:30She busts through the wall and matches Ferrell's impersonation
38:33in a hilarious shakeup of this recurring sketch series,
38:36showing that she isn't too self-serious.
38:38Reno plays well opposite a comedy legend.
38:41She's not the typical performer,
38:42but the leader shows that she's a good sport that can dish out funny jabs of her own.
38:46The attorney general also sticks around to share an unforgettable dance with her scene partner.
38:51Oh, Janet, I can't believe I have to say goodbye.
38:54What do you do when you get sad?
38:56I just dance.
38:57Now, hit it.
38:59Number 22.
39:00The Dictator and Martin Scorsese.
39:02Sacha Baron Cohen's Admiral General Aladdin stops by to plug The Dictator,
39:06mentioning the biased critiques of his film.
39:09Look at this one from A.O. Scott from the New York Times.
39:15The Dictator is the best film I have seen in the last 10 years.
39:19There, I said it.
39:21Please, please, not my face.
39:23He intimidates various people with his sarcastic comments.
39:27He intimidates various people for positive reviews,
39:30including a kidnapped Martin Scorsese.
39:32The acclaimed director is electrocuted until he gives Aladdin the right answer,
39:36playing into the dark humor of the segment.
39:38Speak freely.
39:41It was good.
39:44It was great.
39:46It was better than Raging Bull.
39:47Scorsese is especially game to show up for a movie that isn't even his own.
39:52Playing well off of Cohen's genius,
39:54the filmmaker shows that he has potential in more comedic roles.
39:57His final send-off even includes a few fun references for cinephiles to enjoy.
40:02Okay, very well.
40:03Put him back in the cell with Coppola.
40:05You told me I'd be released.
40:07Well, you promised me that Hugo would be under two hours.
40:10But it was.
40:11It wasn't actually.
40:15In light of evil headlines,
40:17Mike Myers returned to SNL with one of his best movie characters.
40:21He brought back this villain for a funny cold open about the North Korea and Sony debacle.
40:25Hello, I'm Dr. Evil.
40:30I've preempted this program because I'm furious that North Korea and Sony Pictures
40:35have both given evil organizations a bad name.
40:39Dr. Evil's speech feels straight out of an Austin Powers script,
40:43complete with some hilarious jokes aimed at everyone from Kim Jong-un to James Franco.
40:47There are even a few references to the spy series that spawned this character in the first place.
40:52What are you going to do next, GOP?
40:54Ask for one million dollars.
40:59With some great makeup work,
41:01the actor disappears into the role once more in a laugh-inducing sketch.
41:05Myers even gets to make fun of himself with a love guru shout-out.
41:09Look, I saw the interview.
41:11It was charming.
41:12But if you really want to put a bomb in a theater, do what I did.
41:17Put in the love guru.
41:18By the end of this scene,
41:19he proves that he hasn't lost any of his sketch comedy talents.
41:25In a parody of Eminem's Stan,
41:26Pete Davidson plays Stu,
41:28a young man with an increasingly unhealthy obsession with getting his hands on a PS5.
41:33Throughout the skit,
41:34we're teased with potential cameos from Dido and even Elton John,
41:37but these turn out to be fellow castmates Kate McKinnon and Bowen Yang.
41:47But even as the words Slim Shady flash up on Stu's TV,
41:56we still can't quite believe that we're seeing the real Slim Shady.
42:00As he unwraps a PS5,
42:01he has some choice words for Stu.
42:03This sketch was the Christmas gift we didn't even know we wanted.
42:12In an interview,
42:13Dr. Fauci joked that he would want Brad Pitt to play him on SNL,
42:16and his wish was their command.
42:25In the cold opening for their At Home series,
42:27Pitt adopts Fauci's recognizable voice and mannerisms
42:30to address some of the misinformation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic,
42:34particularly those shared by a certain individual.
42:37Pitt even received an Emmy nomination for his cameo,
42:40and high praise from the doctor himself.
42:42Before wrapping up,
42:43the actor removes his costume to pay tremendous gratitude
42:46to the real Dr. Fauci,
42:48as well as everyone who has been working tirelessly on the front lines.
43:06Sherri O'Terry's impression of this no-nonsense, badass TV judge
43:10is one of her best and most memorable recurring characters from her SNL tenure.
43:15However, there is one person who thinks there's still room for improvement.
43:19Mid-skit, Sherri is interrupted by the one and only Judge Judy,
43:23who has come as iron-fisted justice to show Sherri
43:26what it means to spit fire in the courtroom.
43:40If you thought Sherri's Judge Judy was direct, you ain't seen nothing yet.
43:48Sherri fights for a piece of the action, but she's simply no match for the OG.
44:05When Steve Carell hosted the show in 2018,
44:08he made it crystal clear that an Office reboot was not in the cards.
44:20But then, it isn't just fans who are disappointed by the news.
44:23Carell's old castmates appear among the audience to jump on the reboot bandwagon
44:28and try to persuade him to think of the money.
44:38Arguably, though, the most hilarious cameo comes from Carell's wife
44:44and former SNL cast member Nancy and their kids,
44:47who are also keen to see the show revived.
45:00He invites his co-stars on stage and we wait with bated breath
45:04for the announcement that never comes.
45:07Well, at least we got this mini-reunion.
45:12Riding high on his Oscar nomination, Jonah Hill is brought crashing back down to earth
45:17when the audience shows more interest in his Wolf of Wall Street co-star Leonardo DiCaprio.
45:22But although Leo's name is mentioned several times,
45:25it doesn't seem probable that he would suddenly walk out onto the 8-H stage.
45:38Making his one and only appearance on the show,
45:42the Oscar-winning actor calls Hill out for acting like a big shot.
45:45What did we say about acting like a big shot in public like this?
45:50We said that, like, like I shouldn't do it, like I shouldn't do it, or whatever.
45:55Right. And what should you do instead?
45:58Just, like, try to, like, be the best version of me or whatever.
46:04He tops off his memorable cameo by re-enacting one of Titanic's most iconic moments.
46:09How has Lee never hosted before?
46:11Quick, someone get Lorne Michaels on the phone.
46:15Chris Rock and Tracy Morgan.
46:17Hosting for the first time since 1984,
46:20Eddie Murphy emerged onto the stage while the audience enthusiastically chanted his name.
46:25Naturally, such a momentous occasion couldn't pass by without some surprise appearances,
46:30which is why we were thrilled when he was joined by comedy icons Tracy Morgan,
46:34Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle.
46:36Hey, hey. Oh my God! It's Dave Chappelle! Dave Chappelle, ladies and gentlemen!
46:43After some first-rate banter, including a Lizzo shout-out,
46:47these cameo comedy icons pay tribute to the comedian who paved the way for their own careers,
46:51especially Chappelle, who says he's been following Murphy's blueprint very closely.
46:56You know, I followed your blueprint for my entire career.
46:59Did you?
46:59Yeah, yeah. I became the biggest star in television, and then I quit.
47:03Joined by Kenan at the end, we get to revel in some of comedy's finest entertainers.
47:10Dana Carvey and Kevin Nealon's popular recurring skit featured Hans and Franz,
47:14two Austrian bodybuilding enthusiasts who are more about the flex than the fitness.
47:19They idolize their cousin Arnold Schwarzenegger,
47:22who usually appears in the form of a cardboard cutout in the background.
47:26However, the real Schwarzenegger joined the show for a surprise cameo too.
47:30In one skit, he invites the pair to give a fitness pep talk to some kids,
47:34but it soon becomes apparent that they're simply clueless.
47:38If you continue on this way, I'm gonna twist your flap into the shape of a pacifier,
47:43and I'm gonna have you suck on it until you poop in your diapers. Huh? How about that?
47:48Not only does he take the wind out of their sails, he also shows them how it's done.
47:52After the 2016 election, it often felt like reality was imitating fiction.
48:00That's why it seemed rather fitting that SNL would turn to fictional TV
48:04to send up some of the unusual choices who were joining the new cabinet.
48:08Walter White is brought out of retirement to become the new head of the DEA,
48:12upon Steve Bannon's recommendation.
48:14Oh yeah, Steve's the best. We've had some times.
48:19He explains how his credentials are really no different than those of his new colleagues,
48:23even faking his own death. The skit is peppered with plenty of hilarious Breaking Bad references,
48:29and his countless witty quips have us cracking up every single time.
48:33The top companies in the country had been knocking on his door for years, but he never answered.
48:38Well, I am the one who knocks.
48:45When Justin Timberlake made it to the five-timers club of celebrities who've hosted SNL five times or more,
48:50the show resurrected an occasionally recurring skit that pictures the club as an actual club,
48:56of the members-only variety. This time, the show pulled out all the stops,
49:00and featured cameos from no less than eight people.
49:03Paul Simon, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd, Alec Baldwin,
49:08Candice Bergen, and Tom Hanks all made appearances.
49:11The bit about the club members entertaining themselves by forcing current SNL players
49:16to fight each other to the death is a particularly funny one.
49:24After the first televised debate of the 2016 U.S. presidential election,
49:29SNL came to rely on surprise appearances from perennial host and guest star Alec Baldwin
49:33to do comedic justice to the resort mogul's over-the-top personality and distinctive speech patterns.
49:38Our jobs are fleeing this country. They're going to Mexico. They're going to China.
49:46At times, Donald Trump can seem like an impossible man to parody,
49:49but Baldwin always delivers the goods, walking a fine line between the real
49:53president's outrageous actions and the winking zaniness of a great SNL parody.
49:59Trust me, I know things are as the locals say, despacito.
50:04No matter how many times he reprises the role,
50:06we never get tired of watching this master Trump satirist at work,
50:10especially when he shares the screen with Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer.
50:21In a recurring sketch that answers the question,
50:23what if Barry Gibb hosted a political talk show?
50:26Jimmy Fallon played the titular character, with Justin Timberlake as his brother Robin.
50:30Inviting politicians and newsmakers for interviews is great,
50:33but of course, what is a show starring two-thirds of the Bee Gees without some music?
50:38Around ten years following the sketch's debut,
50:41the real Barry Gibb makes a surprise appearance,
50:44joining the others to sing at the end of the segment.
50:59It was certainly an exciting moment for Bee Gees fans,
51:02and we get to see Barry's humorous side too.
51:06Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court hearing was so bizarre
51:09that it didn't require a huge leap from fact to satire.
51:13We all saw the SNL material practically right itself,
51:16so the only question left was who would play the beer-loving nominee.
51:28Matt Damon delivers a faultless performance,
51:31mirroring some of the hearing's more peculiar moments,
51:34from Kavanaugh's constant sniffing and weird calendars
51:37to his intense mood swings and inexplicable rage.
51:40Reportedly, Damon was only brought on board the night before the sketch was set to air.
51:44Still, the payoff speaks for itself.
51:47We're almost sorry it was only a one-off occasion.
51:56Two of Saturday Night Live's most popular hosts,
51:59Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin,
52:00who have hosted the show a combined total of more than 30 times to date,
52:04waggle their egos at each other in this 2006 skit,
52:07each trying to prove that theirs has been the more illustrious hosting career of the two.
52:16Seeing the two hosts together is entertaining enough,
52:18and seeing Martin short as a waiter only adds to the fun,
52:21but it's Paul McCartney's wordless appearance that really steals the show.
52:25Not even Steve Martin's quick joke can hide both actors' genuine surprise
52:30at seeing Sir Paul up close and personal.
52:39Back in 2015, SNL decided to send up the Democratic presidential primary candidates
52:44with a couple of special guest impressions.
52:46Although this cold open also featured Alec Baldwin as Virginia Senator Jim Webb,
52:51Larry David stole the show with his cantankerous, scowling Bernie Sanders impression.
52:58His spot-on cameo appearance as the famous US Senator was such a big hit with audiences
53:03that the Curb Your Enthusiasm comedian has revisited it several times since then,
53:08and even appeared alongside the actual Bernie Sanders in a later sketch.
53:22For SNL viewers, it came as no big surprise when the two later found out they were related by blood.
53:30This cold open featuring Tina Fey's popular Sarah Palin impression starts innocently,
53:35with Fey as Palin taking questions from the press and giving typically silly answers.
53:40But then it cuts to a cameo montage of people criticizing Lorne Michaels for leading with the bit,
53:45including Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, and finally Sarah Palin herself.
53:52You are way hotter in person.
53:55Fey is eventually notified that the actual Sarah Palin will be taking the stage,
53:59and bows out so that Palin herself can kick things off.
54:02Live from New York, it's Saturday night!
54:06It's a quick, tight bit with an unexpected twist,
54:09much like the time Hillary Clinton visited Kate McKinnon.
54:12I just realized I never checked your ID.
54:16ID! Come on, please!
54:21Musical guest Lady Gaga showed off her sketch comedy chops in this classic segment,
54:25which sees the singer joined on the stage by pop megastar and SNL favorite Madonna,
54:30in a surprise cameo appearance.
54:37The two play vicious and self-absorbed versions of themselves,
54:40trading venomous insults with each other as they try and fail to get along
54:45and perform together for the Deep House Dish music program.
54:49The skit packs in a flurry of subtle references to both singers,
54:52and pop music fame in general.
54:59Years later, the two stars actually would have a public disagreement,
55:03but that feud never reached the laugh-out-loud heights of this 2009 gem.
55:09Will Ferrell's mega-popular skits featured the future elf actor
55:13as a worn-out, frustrated version of Jeopardy! game show host Alex Trebek,
55:17with three clueless celebrities, played by cast members and guests,
55:20taking the podium to answer simple pieces of trivia in the form of a question.
55:32Daryl Hammond's foul-mouthed Sean Connery impression
55:34is the first thing most people remember about it,
55:36but the last of the regular celebrity Jeopardy! segments
55:39also featured a surprise cameo from the real Alex Trebek himself.
55:47He came off to help send off Ferrell from the segment,
55:50and let Hammond's Connery get in a few more off-color jabs at both their expense.
56:05Back in 2007, when Barack Obama was still just a primary candidate
56:09for the office of President of the United States,
56:11he made this typically deadpan cameo on a skit
56:15set at Bill and Hillary Clinton's Halloween party.
56:17Various political guests show up in costume
56:20and share a joke or two with the beleaguered hosts.
56:22Finally, a tall, slim guest approaches in an Obama novelty mask.
56:26After the usual commentary from the Clintons,
56:28their guest removes the mask to reveal Senator Obama himself.
56:32I enjoy being myself.
56:35I'm not gonna change who I am just because it's Halloween.
56:38Well, that's... that's great.
56:52Jim Brewer's recurring The Joe Pesci Show sketch
56:55featured an impression of the famous actor as a violent maniac,
56:58similar to his characters in the films Goodfellas and Casino,
57:01who used any perceived slight from his guests as an excuse to assault them.
57:05Take care.
57:06What?
57:07I'm not going anywhere.
57:08Yeah, you are.
57:11The segment also often used special guests to play Robert De Niro,
57:15who would validate Pesci's anger and join in alongside him.
57:19So when the real Pesci and De Niro eventually showed up on the sketch
57:22in an unannounced double cameo,
57:24the comedic tension was almost too much.
57:27I'm actually a very calm, laid-back person.
57:31The two veteran actors played their parodied selves to a T
57:34and brought the house down in the process.
57:36See, first thing you have to do is you take the bat and you hit him in the knee.
57:40Damn, you hit him in the head.

58:01Number 1. Barbara Streisand and Madonna
58:04SNL's studio audience was already delighted enough
58:07by the surprise appearance of superstar pop singer Madonna
58:10on this episode of Mike Myers' recurring talk show sketch.
58:13But even the material girl herself was starstruck
58:16when the legendary Barbara Streisand popped in.
58:19All this talk about food, I'm getting hungry, girl.
58:24She entered at just the right time too,
58:26during a moment when both characters were praising her singing voice.
58:29The rare cameo by Streisand was the result of a last minute
58:32off-the-cuff arrangement with SNL head honcho Lorne Michaels.
58:35So none of the cast even knew it was happening until it did.
58:45The surprise and admiration radiating from Madonna's face was unscripted,
58:49totally real and impossible to forget.
58:52Which SNL cameo surprised you the most?
58:54Are there any we missed?
