Minoxidil
Minoxidil is an FDA-approved topical treatment primarily used for androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern baldness). It works by promoting vasodilation, which increases blood flow to hair follicles, thereby stimulating hair growth. Clinical studies have shown that minoxidil can lead to significant improvements in hair density and regrowth when used consistently over time. Typically, it is applied twice daily to the scalp.
Recent research indicates that combining minoxidil with other treatments may enhance its effectiveness. For instance, studies have demonstrated that microneedling combined with minoxidil yields better results than using minoxidil alone[1].
Finasteride
Finasteride is an oral medication that inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to hair follicle miniaturization in androgenetic alopecia. By reducing DHT levels, finasteride helps prevent further hair loss and can promote regrowth in some patients. It is generally recommended for men due to potential side effects in women, particularly those who are pregnant or planning to conceive[2].
Clinical evidence supports the efficacy of finasteride; however, some patients experience side effects such as sexual dysfunction. This has led many individuals to seek alternative or complementary treatments like microneedling.
Microneedling
Microneedling involves using a device with fine needles to create micro-injuries on the scalp's surface. This process stimulates the body's natural wound healing response, leading to increased collagen production and activation of stem cells associated with hair growth[3]. When combined with topical treatments like minoxidil or finasteride, microneedling enhances absorption and effectiveness.
Studies indicate that microneedling can significantly improve hair regrowth outcomes when used alongside other therapies. For example, one study found that patients receiving both microneedling and minoxidil experienced greater increases in hair count compared to those using minoxidil alone[4].
Combined Treatment Efficacy
The combination of minoxidil, finasteride, and microneedling appears to offer a synergistic effect on hair regrowth:
Minoxidil provides immediate stimulation of hair follicles through increased blood flow.
Finasteride addresses hormonal factors contributing to hair loss.
Microneedling enhances the penetration of these medications while also promoting healing and regeneration at the follicular level.
Research suggests that this multi-faceted approach can lead to superior results compared to any single treatment alone[5][6]. Patients often report visible improvements within a few months when adhering strictly to their treatment regimen.

00:00welcome back everyone um today i'm going to share my very personal hair loss uh and hair
00:15regrowth journey with you a quick disclaimer i am not selling anything i'm not promoting
00:20i'm not promoting any products of any kind i'm just sharing my personal story um and i'm going
00:28to do so while i play a little minecraft so if you hate minecraft like some people let me know in the
00:33last video this isn't for you but i'm going to play a little minecraft while i talk to you all so um
00:39disclaimer out of the way i'm not a doctor always seek medical professional care um here's the
00:46pictures here's what my hair used to look like or what my scalp used to look like to be more accurate
00:53and this is it about about two months ago i need a more recent picture because it's actually
00:59uh gotten darker and denser since then so it's a little better now that that little divot in the
01:06middle has filled in nicely so for the most part um but yeah so let's you know let's just dive into it
01:14um yeah i was about 18 or 19 years old when i started losing my hair it was coming out and
01:22clumps like it was building up around the drain it was on my pillow it was just getting everywhere
01:28and uh it was terrifying you know i thought i was going to be completely bald by the time i was
01:3425 that's how much it was coming out uh thankfully it did stop i suspect that well it slowed let's put it
01:41that way it it drastically slowed um but i was steady losing hair you know from then till now and
01:51um it wasn't until about my late 20s that i first used rogaine and one of the reasons why rogaine was a
02:04very oral minoxidil generic you know i used rogaine once or twice but you can use the uh generic stuff
02:11it is exactly the same same same formula same concentration of minoxidil you're just paying
02:18more money for the name brand for rogaine um i actually i i'm not i'm not pushing this product
02:25but the cheapest uh minoxidil you can find is i believe it's still kirkland's best just go on amazon
02:33or ebay and you can find a six month supply for about 20 25 dollars somewhere in there so
02:41um and for me it's it's more like a year's supply because i don't i don't do the two doses a day i do
02:48one good dose at night and um because the drug itself lasts for like 23 20 22 23 hours so your your hair
02:58is not going to like jump out of your scalp in the two hours that the minoxidil is worn off so um
03:05yeah so anyways again use whatever brand you like i'm not pushing or promoting anything i'm just
03:12trying to tell you how cheap it is to actually start saving your hair or regrowing it so uh quick
03:20quick thing i want to point out when you get a box of rogaine or any really any uh any topical minoxidil
03:29uh there's going to be an instruction pamphlet in there and in that pamphlet at least this is this
03:36used to be the case i imagine it still is uh there was a nice little drawing of a man going bald on top
03:42of his head and the instructions said that this product was for it was to help people with male
03:47pattern baldness okay well i never had male pattern baldness in fact as bald as i ever got the top of
03:53my head the crown right where some men do go bald that was always nice and thick so
03:59um i mean maybe a little thinner or whatever it's kind of hard to tell but definitely not bald so i
04:05wasn't balding there really it was just the front temples you know the widow's peak uh top of my scalp
04:12obviously going thin and hair falling out but never had male pattern baldness not not in that sense so
04:19the reason why it says that is because it legally has to all right when they discovered that minoxidil
04:26which is a blood pressure uh drug for treating blood pressure high blood pressure hypertension which
04:32i have uh when they found out that that was causing patients to regrow hair um there was eventually
04:39like an fda approved study commissioned and in the study they used men who have or had male pattern
04:48baldness so legally they have to say that this product you know is intended for men with male
04:55pattern baldness because that's what they used in the sample it's it's really weird if you if you study
05:00a lot of these um fda approved products you'll find out and this is how we get so many uh how many
05:07so many bad drugs approved by the fda they do like one relatively small study and that's it they base
05:15you know 20 30 years of sales on this one study that may not even be a good study you know so um
05:23anyways so i digress so i would stop and start stop and start because i wasn't seeing the results that
05:34some of the other people were seeing i was getting about like maybe 10 percent of my my hair back and
05:39remember your hair is thinning the entire time even while you're using this so getting 10 percent back
05:47you know a couple of years passed and you're like oh my god i'm going bald like so then you stop taking
05:53it and then you really go bald then you see where you really are with your hair uh without the drugs
06:00without the assistance and it's it's shocking so um i'm sharing that with you because uh what happened
06:07was i became hospitalized i was you know keeping it short trimmed buzzed basically for like 15 years
06:15and then i became hospitalized uh many of you already know this story um i had a severe diabetic
06:22infection i had to have multiple surgeries septus uh which is a blood infection um i had necrotic
06:29tissue inside me so they had to do multiple multiple surgeries they had to keep going in
06:36and um making sure that they got all the dead tissue out and everything and they had to get my
06:43uh blood infections and whatnot under control with antibiotics and i had no medical history so they
06:49literally just threw every every antibiotic in the book at me so um they even joked about though like
06:57that's one hell of a cocktail they're pumping in you um because they're trying to save my life i was
07:03gonna die and then um anyways so so this happened and uh because the diabetes i was overweight and uh
07:14they can't feed you during surgeries um they don't want you urinating or defecating while you're you're
07:22under so they starve you like the day before so you know they were they were essentially starving me
07:28um to get my weight under control to get my blood sugar under control and um that's why my hair
07:37looks as bad as it does in that picture part of that is um probably poor nutrition i don't know they
07:44did have an ivy in me but um you know that was the first time i saw my hair again without the benefit
07:53of any assistance and it was it was horrifying you know when you're gradually losing it it's kind of
07:58hard to tell how much you've lost where you're at and then you're hospitalized and you don't really
08:03have access to any of those um drugs and you kind of see where you're at so um anyways long story short
08:11uh while i was in the hospital okay um so so basically as a as a little recap so far i know i'm being a
08:21long-winded here uh i was on one milligram finasteride through hymns with topical minoxidil uh generic
08:31topical minoxidil daily and uh and i was overall happy just happy that my head wasn't you know super
08:38shiny or anything like that uh that i had a little fuzz up there um a little dark fuzz i should say
08:44and then i became hospitalized and lost everything you know so um but then i was able to i get on
08:54oral finasteride because i complained of urinary issues and finasteride is a common treatment for
09:01a large prostate and i'm getting into that age where you know guys need to be checked i guess
09:08fairly regularly and uh my doctor was nice enough to prescribe that for me uh without a checkup so
09:15i still have my uh i still have my uh chastity but i still have my what's the word i'm looking for
09:25oh my god um celibacy anyways i'm still i'm still intact there we go
09:32but uh anyways uh sorry i'm a goofball so uh so i got an oral finasteride five milligrams a day
09:43i also managed to get on uh oral minoxidil uh which like i said earlier is a blood pressure
09:49treatment medication and um so now i will warn you i was on 10 milligrams a day and i was just fine
09:59a little bit higher heart rate but the trade-off was you know it was reducing my blood pressure
10:05significantly about 20 20 points 20 25 points so uh so along with other other medications i was
10:13having a pretty pretty regular uh blood pressure um about you know around 130 over 80 which is
10:21it's fairly typical for a guy my age still a little high but you know not not terrible
10:26uh for for an older diabetic so um anyway so oral finasteride oral minoxidil uh once i got up
10:38and out of bed i started using topical minoxidil as well and um and then a friend of mine a good
10:46friend of mine she showed me some pictures of her with um her hairline and not just her hairline but you
10:53know around the temples uh you know what would be the sideburn sides you know for for guys i don't
11:01know what you're going i guess that's the temples but anyways uh back of her head and she was suffering
11:06really bad hair loss like it was very patchy and it was brought on by covid so she had a really bad
11:14case of covid that cost her her sense of smell and uh you know her it devastated her hair you know and
11:23for a woman that's that's horrible it's bad enough for a guy it's it's even worse for a woman because
11:29you know guys are expected to go bald but women just look freakish you know with patchy hair loss
11:34patchy hair loss uh to a lot of people and people are just mean i think you know as well
11:40but um anyways so she here we're getting further into my regimen she introduced me to derma rolling
11:47right and for those that don't know a derma roller is basically a wheel um with these uh surgical steel
11:58needles on it that you roll across your scalp now it sounds super super painful and it's not comfortable
12:05um i'm doing it every other day now uh i do a day and then i take a day off or two days off
12:13and then i do a day you're supposed to do it they say like once or twice a week at the most um
12:18so me doing it every other day i'm doing it about three times a week so
12:22it's uh it's not it's not that big a deal to do it every other day but um i'm actually seeing some
12:29really really good results now the way a derma roller works right um some people use them for their
12:37face it's a good treatment for acne but the way it works excuse me try not to hiccup on on the
12:45microphone the way it works uh scientifically is you're puncturing the very top layer of your skin
12:51now some people go crazy with this and they get you know 1.5 two millimeter needles that actually
12:58draw blood i'm not i'm not that crazy i'm doing 0.5 and i used a 0.3 uh for my hair
13:07for months and saw no results and i said you know what i'm gonna use the 0.5 i'm gonna go a little
13:14deeper i'm a big baby nobody wants to inflict pain on themselves you know but uh i gotta say it's it's
13:20not it's not as bad as you think it would be and even with a 0.5 uh derma roller um you're not really
13:27drawing you're not drawing blood you know the skin will look a little pinkish and look a little
13:31irritated but you're not getting deep enough to get those large blood vessels you're really just
13:37puncturing like capillaries which are going to close as soon as um the needle is removed because
13:44of pressure you know it's the surrounding pressure of the skin so there's no blood uh at at most like
13:50i said the skin gets like a little pinkish tint to it so um and there's there's if you google it
13:56there's studies that suggest that the 0.5 milligram derma roller is the optimal like they i saw a study
14:03where they tested different lengths and like 0.3 no results because it's not getting down into the
14:09follicle it's got to get into that follicle and damage it a little bit i kind of lost my train of
14:15thought i was gonna say this is how the derma roller works but we'll cover that now so it the wheel with
14:20the the needles on it um i should i'm gonna put a picture up of a derma roller just in case i have it
14:26but uh it's a wheel with all these little spikes on it and um it's puncturing the skin and what that
14:34does is it's using the the human body's natural uh you know defense system and natural you know
14:42autoimmune healing capabilities because that little puncture well that makes white blood cells rush to
14:50the area it makes it increases collagen production which is why people like to use it for their face
14:57because it makes them look younger um it treats acne you're basically injuring your your your skin a
15:04little bit to improve the quality of it and uh it's been scientifically proven to work like i said i
15:11didn't see any hair result uh hair results at 0.3 but then i switched to a 0.5 and what it's doing
15:21for a while there i thought it was just improving existing hair because it is but uh what it's doing
15:27is um it's the the hair that is on top of my head this is how i i repair my uh my pickaxe by the way
15:36because i got mending on it so nice mob uh generation if you go to the top if you go 100
15:43blocks up come back down really kicks this thing into high gear um i gotta say oh shoot
15:50losing my train of thought uh so yeah but but no it it it definitely does work you just gotta stick with
15:58it i i personally use the topical monoxidil right after i do it because it doesn't sting you would think
16:06it would sting because monoxidil is uh largely alcohol uh but that and it says it has a nice
16:13sterilizing effect as well but it's like i said my derma roller is only 0.5 millimeters it's not
16:19getting deep enough to actually cause real wounds so um with the with the topical monoxidil though
16:27it does leave like i thought i had dandruff there for a while because uh it does create flakes um but
16:34it's just monoxidil flakes so don't worry about that it's not it's not giving you dandruff
16:38but i hope this has been helpful and i hope that everyone listening to this has some success with
16:45their hair recovery journey so thank you so much for watching i'm gonna want to take a hike bye
