00:00Here's one fact about the chameleon that you didn't know.
00:03They can't actually change their skin color to camouflage with their surroundings.
00:08That's a myth.
00:10What they're actually doing is changing the color of their undersides
00:13to either attract or warn off potential mates.
00:17The brighter the color, the more attractive they are to females.
00:21And the darker the color, the more aggressive they are towards other males.
00:26But there's a problem.
00:28See, chameleons that live in trees need to be green to camouflage with the leaves.
00:34And chameleons that live on the ground need to be brown to blend in with the dirt.
00:39So basically, if you're a chameleon, you've got to be born with the right color skin.
00:44Otherwise, you'll stick out like a sore thumb.
00:47And predators will have a field day picking you off.
00:51Now, there are some chameleons that can change their skin color a little bit.
00:55But for the most part, they're stuck with what they got.
00:59Just like us humans, chameleons come in all sorts of colors, shapes, and sizes.
01:05And that's what makes them so fascinating.
