Russian and Ukrainian negotiators met in Istanbul on Friday (May 16) at their first direct peace talks in more than three years in a bid to end the war between the two neighbours that has killed thousands of people.

00:00The high-level meetings involving U.S. and European foreign ministers as well as Russian and Ukrainian negotiators at the Dolmabache Palace on the Bosphorus in Istanbul began on Friday.
00:14The trilateral meetings were focused on a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine war that has been going on since February 2022.
