The Qatari government pushed back on criticism over its offer of a US$400mil Boeing 747-8 jet to the United States, saying that the deal was a routine government-to-government transaction and not a personal gift.

During US President Donald Trump's official visit to Qatar on May 14, Qatar also signed a US$200bil deal to buy 160 Boeing aircraft with options for another 50.

00:00The First Amendment
00:29American president coming for a state visit to Qatar in the history, so of course the
00:36relationship has been ongoing for decades now and it's on multi-levels whether it's
00:43on the security, defense, economy, investments. First of all, we bought this airplane from
00:50an American company. It's basically part of a cooperation that we've been doing a lot
00:56together between Qatar and the United States. Unfortunately, I see that this story is taking
01:03a different direction and it's being more politicized while it's a normal government-to-government deal.
01:09She is unbelievable. She was one of the strongest.
01:14On Qatar, has Qatar asked for anything in exchange for that $400 million luxury jumbo jet and how can
01:22the American people be so sure that they will not in the future?
01:24Well, I think what happens with the plane is that, you know, we're very disappointed that
01:28it's taking Boeing so long to build a new Air Force One. You know, we have an Air Force One
01:32that's 40 years old and if you take a look at that compared to the new plane of the equivalent,
01:38you know, stature at the time, it's not even the same ballgame. You look at some of the
01:43Arab countries and the planes they have parked alongside of the United States of America plane,
01:49it's like from a different planet. But I thought it was a great gesture. And I think it was a gesture
01:55because of the fact that we have helped and continue to. We will continue to. All of those
02:01countries, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and others, we keep them safe. If it wasn't for us, they probably
02:09wouldn't exist right now. And I think this was just a gesture of good faith. And I don't get it.
02:16Someday it'll be like Ronald Reagan. They decommissioned them. You know, they get to a
02:20certain age, they decommissioned them. It'll go to my library. They're talking about going to my
02:24library.
02:25Respectfully, sir, as a businessman, some people may look at this and say, have you ever been
02:29given a gift worth millions of dollars and then not received anything?
02:33It's not a gift to me. It's a gift to the Department of Defense. And you should know better
02:38because you've been embarrassed enough and so has your network. Your network is a disaster. ABC is a
02:42disaster. Here is the bill. We will now witness the signing of an agreement in the field of
02:47aviation between the state of Qatar and the United States of America.
02:51The signing ceremony has now come to an end. Of course, I think after signing these documents,
03:09we are going to another level of relationship between Qatar and the United States. So I just
03:15wanted to thank you, Mr. President, again, for this historic visit. Thank you very much, sir.
03:19From Boeing. It's the largest order of jets in the history of Boeing. That's pretty good.
03:24And that's 140. Was that a 140 or 160? Yeah, but you're right. It's actually 200, including
03:34the 40. So it's over $200 million. But 160 in terms of the jets, that's fantastic. So that's
03:42a record, Kelly. And congratulations to Boeing. Get those planes out there. We always had a
03:47very special relationship.
