00:00Our Premier League game against Chelsea.
00:03Let's start Sunday.
00:05Out of the train today we noticed that some defenders were missing for the league to the
00:11final.
00:12What's the situation with your opponent?
00:14I don't know if they are going to be available.
00:19We are going to try to push because it's the final matches and this is the final.
00:24You know that all the players want to play that really bad.
00:28So I don't know.
00:30I think they will not go to Chelsea but they will have a possibility to have some of them
00:39in the final.
00:40Do you think that you are going to risk Dalo?
00:42Dalo is trying really bad.
00:44I don't want to risk Dalo because when you start getting one injury, second injury and
00:51then it's a big thing, we cannot have these kind of problems in our squad.
00:57So we will see but it's working really hard to get in the final.
01:02Over the last 24, 48 hours since you saw us on Sunday there has been a lot of stories
01:11about not having the parade, about ticket situation for me, final about you personally
01:19paying so members of staff, their families can go to the game.
01:25First of all, what has led to you making that personal gesture and also what is the collective
01:32spirit within the football club?
01:36To start with that, the situation is simple.
01:43You know that we have a lot of things, people leaving, a lot of changing in the staff and
01:52in this moment for our club sometimes it's hard to understand when to give, when to take,
01:59to respect the people that we are taking their jobs in certain moments to survive and to rebuild.
02:08And then it's complicated for the club to start giving to other members of staff so it's a really hard position.
02:20Then that situation was explained and in that moment my reaction was to help because I'm not a good guy,
02:32he's not going to change my life and to help to the staff to be there comfortable, to be a better staff for the final.
02:41Then they talked to the players and the players had the same reaction.
02:46At the same moment they had the same reaction.
02:48So everybody wants the staff there, the families there, but we start to manage things in our club, so it's a simple thing.
02:56Do you feel as though the spirit is there? You've said some very harsh things on Sunday.
03:03Do you feel as though everybody is moving in the same direction?
03:08I think you feel that a final is different, but you can understand that this season has been really tough on everybody.
03:16The results and also the change in the staff and you can feel it in our club.
03:22So we are addressing that during the season, we are changing the way we play during the season.
03:28We have so many bad results in Premier League, so the environment is tough in the moment.
03:33But I guarantee you that when we are preparing a game in the Europa League, the environment is a little bit different.
03:39And you can feel the excitement.
03:41But you can understand that the environment in this year is really tough.
03:47Thanks.
03:48Thanks.
03:49Ruben, I think you said on Sunday that results carry on and maybe someone else would have to have a chance.
03:55Do you seriously see yourself walking away from this club and being given this opportunity?
04:00Or is it taking your mind?
04:02What I'm seeing is that since I arrived here I was talking about the standards.
04:08And I cannot see the team having these results especially in Premier League and not say nothing and not take the responsibility.
04:16It's just that I have a clear idea what to do.
04:19I understand the problems of the team, so I'm far from quitting.
04:23What I'm seeing is that we need to perform.
04:25And we have this season, in the future we need to perform.
04:29Or else they will change us.
04:31That is a normal thing.
04:32Especially after a match.
04:34That was my feeling and it still is my feeling today.
04:39What would the bar go up to you personally?
04:41Winning the trophy or getting the trophy to the Champions League?
04:48Personally for me, I think the Champions League is more important.
04:52For everything.
04:53To prepare the next season.
04:54And we are supposed to be in the Champions League.
05:00And the Europa League here is not enough.
05:02You have that feeling here.
05:03So this is the best way to get, to help us to get in the top in a few years.
05:10It's Champions League.
05:11It's not the title.
05:12It's not the Cup.
05:13So for me, Champions League is more important.
05:16Ruben, you and the players have spoken about in the Europa League.
05:20Physicality has been a bit easier to cope with.
05:22How do you then know about playing as well as a Premier League team?
05:26I know the context is different, but obviously different challenges.
05:30Yeah, the game will play a different game.
05:34It's not the same to play against Fjall Cedat or even Lyon or Atletic Bilbao.
05:40It's going to be different, but we are prepared for that.
05:44And the final is completely different.
05:46The context is different.
05:47The Cup is there.
05:48We can see the Cup.
05:49And even the last years, even with Enag, with some problems, when they reached the final,
05:57they were there.
05:58And you guys know that.
06:00This team can prove already that in the final they can step up.
06:05And we know that.
06:07When you talked about identity at the time a few days ago, about getting used to losing
06:12big matches at home, is that equally frustrating there, that the team can perform these really
06:18big games?
06:19They have the 100% so far, but maybe in other games they are reaching out.
06:22It's more profound than that.
06:25Of course, I understand the context.
06:27I understand that we are not fighting for nothing and we are focused on the Europa League,
06:32but we cannot get used to that.
06:34So if I have to say that every week, I will say every week is my job.
06:39I understand that I am manager of this big club.
06:44That is a problem.
06:45It's not okay.
06:46No matter what.
06:47Even if it is a pre-season match, we need to win it.
06:50We've been asking Jose Mourinho, the last manager to win this trophy with Manchester United.
06:56What would it mean for you to be able to replicate that?
06:59Have you spoken to him at all?
07:02No.
07:03About this final, no.
07:04He has a big job.
07:05I didn't speak with him.
07:09Again, it would be nice for us to win something, to give something to the fans.
07:16It's not important if I follow Jose Mourinho or another manager.
07:21For me, the most important thing is how this title could help us to get back to the top faster.
07:30That is the most important thing.
07:32James?
07:33You said on Sunday, talking about the West Ham game, I don't know what is best, if it's
07:40played in the Champions League or not.
07:42Clearly, it was in the club historically.
07:44The Champions League has huge revenue benefits for transfers and things around it.
07:50But in terms of obviously, if you weren't in the next year, you'd have a lot more time
07:54on the training ground, a lot more time to prepare for the Premier League, a lot more
07:59time to focus on that.
08:00In terms of where the club is at this moment, again, historically, would it actually be better
08:06to know long-term progress next season if you're not in the Champions League as opposed
08:11to that?
08:12That is my feeling.
08:13You explained quite well.
08:15That is my feeling.
08:16We need more time with the team.
08:18We need to arrange a lot of things in Carrington that we need more time to not thinking game
08:24by game by game by game.
08:25And then you have the squad.
08:27We proved this year that we need to be a better squad if we want to win European games
08:34and then to be really competitive during the Premier League is going to be tough.
08:54It's going to be really bad.
08:57I don't want to use that as an excuse.
08:59It's going to be really tough.
09:01And the patience of the fans and you guys, if we don't win it, next year it's going
09:06to be in the limit and we have to be perfect to continue everything.
09:10I know that.
09:11So it's not going to be, it's not better in that way.
09:14It would actually in other ways increase the pressure on you.
09:17Yeah, for sure.
09:18If we don't win, that is clear, but I'm not concerned about that.
09:24It's hard to have a message.
09:37You can see it in every Sunday here.
09:41They are always supporting the team.
09:44We lost a lot of games.
09:45I think it was nine games at home this season.
09:48They are always here.
09:50They are always supporting the manager.
09:53So I have nothing, nothing to say.
09:55The connection with the supporters are really important, especially in this kind of club,
09:59in our club is really important because it can be a game changer.
10:04So we want to build that connection with hard work.
10:10We have to run a lot and win titles.
10:12So we have one title to win.
10:14Let's try to win.
10:15No, no, no, I will not sing it.
10:30They don't deserve that.
10:32The feeling would be really good because I will feel that I helped in something to win something.
10:44It's going to be a really good feeling to give back to the fans.
10:49But again, I think I need to prove a lot more to have the right to a song.
10:55Richard.
10:56I just want to ask you about your career to final 23, final in Portugal and one of the more.
11:02Do you prepare them differently?
11:03You have a special message for your team to get into things like motivation or video?
11:06No, no, that is the easiest part.
11:09I just prepare the games in the same way.
11:12Of course, we pay attention to the details.
11:14We give all the information that we can without being too much information.
11:20So I prepare the game in the same way.
11:22It's the only way I know how.
11:24And just on your 50-90, you've got good results in the biggest games in Anfield at the end of the stadium against Man City in a way.
11:31Do you back them in the final in a game where there's so much at stake?
11:35I think it's a thing of our players also.
11:40And again, they proved in the past that in these kind of games they are prepared to do that.
11:46They have experience, so we'll be prepared for the game.
11:52Last question.
11:53Hi, Ruben.
11:54You yourself were in this competition in your playing days.
11:57And I just wonder, is there any part of your involvement in that final that you've used to help your team prepare for this one?
12:05No, it's just that feeling that I played the final as a player but I lost and it doesn't matter anything.
12:13You will never say that I was a finalist.
12:16So you have to win the final, no matter what.
12:19The feeling is going to be like, what a waste of time, you know?
12:22And the pain will be tougher in the final.
12:25So my message to the players is that we need to win this or else it doesn't matter.
12:33Ok, that concludes on Europa League.
12:35Ok, that concludes on Europa League.
12:37Ok, that concludes on Europa League.
