U.S. President Donald Trump's use of the words "unification" and "peace" when speaking about a recent U.S.-China tariff agreement has caused some concern in Taiwan. Both the American Institute in Taiwan and Taiwan's Presidential Office stressed that Trump was strictly talking about trade matters and that his remarks do not concern Taiwan.

00:00Trump's recent choice of words for describing U.S.-China trade ties are turning heads here in Taiwan.
00:07And they've agreed to open China, fully open China.

00:16And I think it's going to be great for unification and peace.
00:20Trump was speaking on a U.S.-China trade deal to temporarily cut tariffs for 90 days.
00:27But his use of the words unification and peace have caused worry about potential U.S. concessions to China's territorial claims over Taiwan.
00:36Taiwan Plus reached out to the American Institute in Taiwan, which says Trump was speaking strictly on trade matters and that U.S. policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged.
00:47Taiwan's presidential office also says that Trump's remarks are not related to Taiwan.
