00:00Hey everyone, welcome back to another wild adventure from Simply Awesome Planet.
00:04Today I'm going to introduce you to a true giant of the animal kingdom,
00:08the world's longest snake. Hold on to your hats, because we're diving into the fascinating world
00:13of the reticulated python. First off let's talk size. The reticulated python, scientifically
00:19known as python reticulatus, holds the title for the longest snake on the planet. These serpentine
00:25giants can stretch up to an astonishing 30 feet. That's about the length of a school bus. Just
00:30imagine coming across that in the wild. Now where do these colossal creatures call home?
00:36Reticulated pythons are native to Southeast Asia. You can find them slithering through the thick
00:41humid rainforests of countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. They are also
00:46excellent swimmers and have been spotted in rivers and streams. One of the most incredible traits of
00:52the reticulated python is its intricate and mesmerizing pattern. Their skin features a
00:57complex mosaic of light and dark patches, which provides excellent camouflage in their natural
01:03jungle habitat. This makes them stealthy hunters, able to ambush their prey with incredible precision.
01:09Speaking of hunting, you might be curious about what's on the menu for these massive snakes.
01:14Reticulated pythons are constrictors, meaning they wrap their powerful bodies around their prey
01:19and squeeze until it's lights out. Their diet includes a variety of animals, from birds and
01:24mammals to even small deer. Yes, you heard that right, small deer. Despite their fearsome reputation,
01:31reticulated pythons are generally not a threat to humans. They are more likely to avoid us if given
01:36the chance. However, it's always important to respect their space and observe them from a safe
01:41distance. One fascinating fact about these snakes is their ability to go for long periods without food.
01:47After a large meal, a reticulated python can survive for weeks, sometimes even months,
01:52without eating again. This adaptation is especially useful in the wild, where food may not always be
01:58readily available. Lastly, let's touch on their breeding habits. Female reticulated pythons lay
02:04clutches of up to 80 eggs, which they incubate by coiling around them and twitching their muscles to
02:09generate heat. This maternal care ensures the eggs stay warm and protected until they hatch.
02:14There you have it, folks. The reticulated python, a true marvel of nature and a testament to the
02:20incredible diversity of life on our planet. If you ever find yourself in the rainforests of Southeast
02:26Asia, keep your eyes peeled. You might just spot one of these magnificent serpents in the wild.
