'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place' stars David Henrie and Janice LeAnn Brown chat with THR at the Disney Upfronts and dish on what fans can expect for the upcoming season. Plus, they talk about what it's like to work with Selena Gomez and share their fan reaction encounters.

00:00It's an exciting day. It's up front. We have a new season of Wizards.

00:05David, I wanted to ask you first, what has it been like to come home to the Wizards family?

00:10It's been... it's hard to put into words because it's so meaningful to me.

00:15I mean, the original show, I grew up on the original show.

00:17I got to then see the effect it had on millions of people all over the world.

00:21I got to see how in some cases it saved kids who were in a really dark time.

00:24So for me, getting to recreate that feeling that, yes, I love doing it as an artist,

00:28but there's a bigger effect that's out there, it's wonderful to do that with a whole new cast.

00:33So it really is meaningful in a whole... in a way that's hard to articulate.

00:37And what has the fan reaction to this new series meant to both of you?

00:42It's meant so much to me. I think we did a pretty good job, so I'm very proud of us.

00:47I'm glad that we're bringing the heart of the original show to the original fans,

00:52but we also have a new heart for new fans as well.

00:56Like, my baby sister, she was always quoting lines from the show,

00:59and it just... I don't know why it makes my heart feel so warm.

01:03And so it means a lot.

01:05Has there been any particular fan interaction that you've had that really stuck with you?

01:10I mean, every time I go to the airport, wherever I'm at,

01:12someone needs to stop me, and someone talks to me about the new show

01:15and, like, what it means to them.

01:17I love all the fans, obviously, but speaking to parents who watch the show

01:23and who now are watching it with their 3-year-old, their 4-year-old, their 5-year-old, their 6-year-old,

01:27that is really cool to see.

01:30Because that was... that was just, like...

01:32to me, that was such a hope that people would do that,

01:36and they are doing it, and that's such a reward.

01:38And how is this new season going to expand on what we've seen?

01:42Well, we ended the last season, my children got powers.

01:45So I call the last season the prequel.

01:46And this season, I feel like it's really beginning,

01:48because now we have a wizard competition,

01:50and they're all... now with our new family member here,

01:53they're all competing against one another for who's going to be the family wizard.

01:57So to me, I feel like the show has really just begun, which is exciting.

02:01The competition aspect.

02:03How do we... what's our game plan for that?

02:06Honestly, Billie is going insane over it.

02:10She's obsessing over winning, I feel like.

02:14There's going to be a new little thing that they're also going to be competing in.

02:17And I don't know if I can say it, but...

02:19Probably keep it to yourself.

02:20Yeah, I don't know if I can say it.

02:22But it's going to be very fun.

02:23But we know they have powers.

02:24Yep.

02:25And they all want to win.

02:27And of course, Selena made an appearance last season.

02:31Can we expect to see her make a cameo or two this time around?

02:34We are going to answer that question at a later date.

02:37But it's a very good question.

02:41Look, she has been such a wonderful partner on this.

02:43Pardon me.

02:44She has been such a great advocate for the show.

02:48She loves the value.

02:49She's all about it.

02:50She's been so helpful every step of the way with helping craft what the fans see on TV.

02:54Yeah, for sure.

02:55And what was it like kind of having Selena on board in a creative capacity?

03:00It meant so much because, especially since I used to watch her like all the time,

03:04it felt very surreal to meet her and everything.

03:06She was so sweet.

03:07And she had a lot of great advice to offer all of us.

03:10And she just made the set really fun.

03:12She's like literally a mama bear to us.

03:14And then, you know, we have Mr. David that's like an uncle and everything.

03:17So it's really like a family.

03:19And every time she's on set, any time she enters any room, she just lights it up.

03:24So.
