The brothers' attorney, Mark Geragos, spoke to the media outside the courthouse during a break later in the day ... calling it "an emotional morning for the family."

00:00It's been quite an emotional morning for the family.

00:07For those of you who are in the courtroom or have read about it,

00:12they've, I think at great personal expense,

00:18bared their souls about the trauma they've endured.

00:23Interestingly, the generational trauma that the family,

00:27extended families, both the Andersons and the Menendez families have endured.

00:33I think it's astonishing to me that,

00:39and I think we talked about it on the record,

00:42that it's a unicorn style situation where you have horrific crimes

00:49that nobody is walking away from,

00:51but also remarkable, remarkable, almost unparalleled rehabilitation and redemption.

00:59The focus of an 1172, which is the resentencing hearing,

01:05because you seem, the public seems to get a lot of disinformation,

01:10frankly coming out of the DA's office,

01:13but the focus of 1172 is on redemption.

01:17The focus of 1172 is the legislature has spoken that they want to encourage rehabilitation.

01:25That is the law.

01:27The law is you do not relitigate the facts of the crime as the DA wants to do,

01:33and at least if they were going to do that,

01:35they should probably try and get the facts correct,

01:37but that's because they've been watching disinformation themselves.

01:45The fact is that the family, all of the living members of the family,

01:49are unified in their belief that they should be released and released immediately.

01:55Obviously for Terry, who is Jose's sister and Kitty's best friend,

02:03and for Joan, who is not only Kitty's older sister,

02:07but has proclaimed that she was almost a surrogate mother,

02:11and all of the extended family,

02:13they want them out and they want them out now.

02:15And that's hopefully what the result that we're aiming for.
