00:00We saw the assembled party room make their way outside the doors of that very secret
00:08meeting and we started to hear some of the response to that. Everyone who chose to speak
00:15to the media said they welcomed the result and they were happy with it. This is particularly
00:21key to see that the party files in behind their new leadership team of Susan Lee and also
00:30Ted O'Brien. Susan Lee winning 29 votes to 25 to her leadership rival in Angus Taylor.
00:39In terms of the response, let's take a listen to what Linda Reynolds had to say.
00:45How did you get the result?
00:46Yeah, I did get the result. Australia spoke very clearly to the Liberal Party. We've listened
00:50and we've acted and we're united. Thank you.
00:54Thank you for your leave. Everyone happy with the result?
00:56Absolutely.
00:56That's the final leader. Wonderful.
01:01It is a fairly tight result. A result, only four votes in it when it comes to the party
01:06leader. The result, as you said, Roz, in the deputy ballot between Phil Thompson, who's
01:12from Townsville, and Ted O'Brien, whose office is based in Merichidore on the Sunshine Coast,
01:17was a much easier contest for Ted O'Brien to win in that particular matter. And it is key
01:26now that we see the party file in, fold in, and be united going forward in what is a very
01:36significant task in the rebuild of the party after their worst electoral defeat in history.
01:42As a party, it's important that we now unify behind Susan. She's got, we have a big job
01:50to do. It's not just on the leader. It's us as a party to unify, make sure that we support
01:57her, put the right policies in place, and that comes about from listening. So there are a lot
02:01of lessons from this result as a party we need to take, and we have to do it as a collective.
02:06We have to work together to understand where we went wrong, why we were rejected by the Australian
02:12people. Be humble, listen, learn, and move forward as a collective. It's the only way we can survive.
