00:00On 8th May 2025, the Supreme Court of India ruled that a live-in relationship implies consent over time

00:05and has squashed a rape case filed on the grounds of an unfulfilled promise of marriage.

00:10The case involved a woman who accused her partner of rape,

00:12alleging that he engaged in sexual relations with her under the false pretext of marrying her.

00:17However, the two had been cohabiting for over two years before their relationship ended.

00:21In its judgment, the court stated that a sustained live-in relationship reflects mutual consent.
