00:00how's it going guys my name is Brayden Bales I'm on tour right now I'm in Chicago we're promoting

00:14the five stages of grief EP that I'm putting out basically went through a breakup got really

00:18sad after and made a whole EP about it about me grieving that relationship um I'm here we're

00:24playing the subterranean tonight this is my tour van we're gonna go inside there I'm gonna show

00:28you what's going on we're not gonna show you the piss bottles there are piss bottles and that's

00:32also another thing that happens on tour but we're gonna show you the van the whole band is inside

00:36the van come with me this is where I sit don't mind the reds it's a pretty gritty lifestyle out here on

00:43the road and so we've got you know the essentials we got the water we got the Marlboro reds that's

00:47only we use those sparingly gotta save the voice so this is Zach he drives the van he's the tour

00:52manager and so he kind of makes sure everything goes according to plan now Zach drives exclusively

00:57unless I want to take a spin this thing's really fun to drive but up here we're listening to we've

01:02got the console here carplay two charges on deck that charges our computers and phones while we're

01:08editing content um we're listening to a wide mix of music so I like afro beats and like floaty folk

01:14like novo amor like boni ver like heilicker Zach here likes kind of indie music and like indie rock

01:21sometimes he goes into the rap scene it's really unpredictable Matt back there likes I'd say like

01:28different kinds of different kinds of alt pop and different artists that he likes he works with

01:34he'll show us their music and it's really fun and we don't get competitive whatsoever and then and then

01:40Jake like well we don't even know Jake Jake just sits with his audiobook in and he just vibes out

01:45yeah did the break-ins album was played yesterday and we all love that Jake particularly liked it but

01:52Jake didn't put on the break-ins album so again I don't I don't I couldn't tell you what Jake listens

01:56to I'm listening to the name of the wind on audiobook right now and it's killing me he's really like I'm

02:02super locked in he likes it go back yeah yes so up here in the front we have this fan letter this was

02:09they gave me a solar powered it's a portable charger that can be powered by the Sun that says

02:14we're sick of your phone dying this is this is more for us than you it's solar powered in case you

02:19forget to charge this too it has a lithium battery so be careful when flying love Mandy Robin Amy PS

02:25nobody likes you when you're 23 um they gave me this at the first show it just made me feel amazing

02:30and my phone commonly dies on TikTok lives and so that's where that kind of comes from um yeah we

02:36used to have we we stopped at Ezra's house in New York because Ezra's from the Bronx and so his

02:40mother gave us some candy and we kept that up front but outside of that I'm trying to stay skinny

02:44everyone in the van is kind of counting calories this this run this little go around and so we are

02:50staying skinny we are eating only meals and yeah and stopping at places like skyline chili but if we

02:56stop twice a day we can eat whatever the hell we want so it's good now this is where the magic happens

03:01this is this is the real game Jake we spend every drive arm wrestling we're doing push-ups back

03:10here there's some equipment there but sometimes Jake will just pick it all up and I'll go back there

03:14and I'll rip 100 crunches 100 sit-ups and then he'll just kind of put all that gear back down um yeah

03:20typically Jake is sitting there some like I kind of go back and forth he Matt kind of sometimes sits up

03:26in front uh I'm either here or here and we kind of mix match the rest just depending on what kind

03:32of vibe I'm feeling do I want to be seen by the other people who don't beautiful tinted windows

03:35to protect my identity because I don't know if you know but I'm playing a 375 cap venue so basically I

03:42can't go anywhere without a million people stopping me um that being said please come to the show tonight

03:47it's not sold out here's my little zone I'm Jake by the way I'm basically sitting here I got my phone

03:54charger in here right now I threw it back because I thought this was going to be way more official

03:57of an interview but it's very casual and it's all in the pockets baby the sun has hit me really hard

04:03I do this I'm like oh man I feel kind of shitty what do I do zins coffee put one in Brayden is

04:12watches me enviously as I put this into my mouth then oh I'm thirsty aye aye aye and then I have to

04:20blow my nose what's this a napkin from the restaurant we were just at huh then it goes

04:24in the other pocket the dirty pocket I'm shouldn't have said that it's disgusting I thought it was

04:32official you've got a system going it's good I don't have a dirty pocket I just have a pocket and

04:35I luck with a draw I get a clean one now that I'm really seeing this I'm kind of envious of your

04:39system okay I should set that up to be honest okay cool tissues the lotiony kind lotion plus

04:46essential if you're going to blow your nose over 300 times a day yeah like I don't know Jake used

04:51that for sure for me I've got in this little shoe box here um I don't know how this started but some

04:57of the people at the shows have been collecting um cinnamon twist slips and they put little notes

05:02inside and then they give it to me they hold them up when I play cinnamon twist and then after the

05:06show they'll give it to me as they come to the merch line I'm meeting everybody so I have my box of

05:09these that I'm going through and kind of reading at my own pace I don't want to get through all of them

05:14too quickly because I feel like it's stored positivity but I keep this at my feet and just

05:18kind of okay sounds good I will read one but anyways like for example this one here says

05:24good luck with a little heart before the show let's see this type of stuff warms my heart

05:31ah okay this one there it says because they've you know they compile several different people's

05:37thoughts into one but this one says love the energy love the new music as well heart Eric you know

05:41some of them are very kind some of them are very thirsty and it's kind of a lottery pick you

05:46know what which one am I going to get um but I'm thankful for all of them it's lovely I'm really

05:51glad that they do this this is such a sweet thing for them to get the cinnamon twist packages for the

05:56song cinnamon twist that is about depression this is Matt say hi to everyone hey guys it's Matt Matt is

06:02who flip-flops with me in the front so let's show Matt's spot on the way here he was sitting in the

06:06front we can slide up here so half the stuff like isn't mine because they love we love flip-flopping

06:12I'm not a smoker but uh now people think I am uh and then really what I got is just this big bag of

06:18all the gear all the computers and iPads uh airport security hates me because I travel with every sort

06:25of electronic two laptops a gaming system I two tablets um and really that's just so when every show

06:32we have to change something or do something that's all I'm doing I'm working up here and if not uh the

06:36only other thing is my hoodie that I go like this and I fall asleep up here um I'm a pretty uh yeah I'm

06:42a pretty light light packer and uh a sleeper in the bus this is the sticky seat this is where you go when

06:50you just need a you know a minute alone you don't want anyone to interrupt you just sit back there and

06:55you know you can cry you can sneeze you can sweat you can do the workouts that's when jake holds up

07:01everything um just to see nobody goes there this is kind of also if you've been exiled so if you've

07:07got bad behavior we shove you in the sticky seat and you have to just sit there and sweat it out and

07:12cry it out we turn on the the heat so you have to just really sit with your thoughts and and and go

07:18over your actions but yeah that's the whole that's the whole band that's probably the most grim part of

07:22this whole tour um I spent a lot of time in that seat this is where the gear is kept

07:28um lots to bring to every show now how much do how much of it do I unload as the artist

07:35not that much of it but you know it looks like a lot of work I'm very thankful to guys for being

07:41putting their their backs into it um this every single show this thing gets emptied out and repacked

07:47and then when we get to the hotel we bring it all upstairs as well I think that's the part

07:51that people don't know as much about on tours that when you're driving the van you can't leave all

07:55the stuff in the van you have to unload it because it gets uh it gets robbed tonight but we've got

08:02jake to protect from the robbing scares the folks away and yes this has merch gear literally everything
