00:00There was Mando Gutierrez, of course,
00:01got a great victory in his first round
00:03matchup for the PFL
00:05at the beginning of this tournament.
00:07He had a great win over Nuzi, was
00:09underestimated by his opponent, was underestimated by plenty
00:11of people coming in, I'm sure, and made
00:13sure that they know now who he
00:15is, what he's about, and how tough he's
00:17going to be in this tournament. Thanks so much, Mando,
00:19for joining us. We appreciate it.
00:21I saw you celebrated the win and the nice little
00:23trip out afterwards, out in the
00:25sticks there, as you put it. You had some great food.
00:27You had the dogs out there. You're getting some
00:29time away from things. What was
00:31it like for you, having that nice relaxation
00:33after that victory? I'm sure you felt a lot better
00:35going out there after winning than if you were trying to recover
00:37from a loss. Oh, yeah,
00:40absolutely.
00:41The thing is, you've got to take this sport for
00:43what it is. It's a journey
00:45no matter what. I tell you,
00:47I never let myself get too high. I never let
00:49myself get too low. Regardless,
00:51that was going to be the plan. I was going to
00:53go out there, take time, be a good
00:55boyfriend to my girl who
00:57she didn't sign up to be a fighter. I
00:59did. So I go out
01:01there. I do what I do.
01:03I go through my entire preparation and she's
01:05right there alongside me. So
01:07she deserves to, you know, get some
01:09get some alone time and we get to hang out and
01:11take the dogs out and do all that good stuff.
01:13You know, there's nothing wrong with smelling the
01:15roses a little bit as long as you get right back to work.
01:18And right back to work is what you're going to have
01:19to do now as you move on this tournament. Obviously,
01:22you know, not like a regular situation
01:23with your fight career where you get a fight
01:25and then you might be waiting three, you know, six,
01:28eight months, maybe years sometimes
01:29if you're coming off injury. You know, I saw you had a post
01:31at the top of your Instagram there
01:33from a couple of years ago. We just pretty much begging to fight.
01:35You're like, someone give me a deal. I want to fight somewhere.
01:37You know, I have that weight. So obviously you're not going to
01:39have that this time around. You got to get right
01:41back in there and have a great fight, which we're
01:43going to talk about coming up in a few minutes
01:45against Justin Wetzel. But let's talk about
01:47this fight you just had against Newsy first because
01:49you felt disrespected
01:51coming in that you said after that, that you
01:53said there's nothing about you that impressed him.
01:55But, you know, hopefully he's impressed now.
01:58Do you feel like that was maybe just
01:59some, you know, some trash talking, hyping up the fight
02:01like, you know, you had to do as part of your job almost
02:03or you think this guy really didn't think that
02:05much and, you know, it bit him in the butt there
02:07as you fly in there and get the victory
02:09against him in the first round?
02:13Typically,
02:13there's a lot of guys that, you know, want
02:15to sell the fight and do things like that. You know,
02:17there's nothing wrong with talking. There's nothing
02:19wrong with, you know, going about your business
02:21and doing things the way you feel like you want to do them.
02:23But, uh, when you start
02:25talking about my body of work and
02:27my livelihood and what I've
02:29done throughout my career, like
02:31nobody can deny that I show up.
02:33You know, I'm out there whether
02:35win or lose, I show up,
02:37I give the, I perform.
02:38Uh, I'm a man of honor, I'm a man
02:41of respect and I deserve
02:42that respect and if I don't get it,
02:44I take it. And
02:46that's just, that's just how it was to me.
02:48For whatever reason, this particular fight
02:50felt a little bit different.
02:52I don't know what it was about him that
02:54struck a chord with me, but I felt like he was a bully
02:56and I don't like bullies. So,
02:58uh, it was just a little bit of added fire.
03:01Uh, like it was just added fuel
03:03to the fire for me and, uh,
03:04it made it really easy to get through fight week.
03:06Let's put it that way. Uh, once I heard
03:08that, uh, I was hearing them talk about
03:10the things that he said during his interviews
03:12and stuff like that. Uh, I was
03:14just extra motivated, you know, put a
03:16little bit of extra pop on my mid sessions
03:18that week, run an extra mile,
03:21make sure I stay super, super
03:23sharp while I'm cutting the weight,
03:25keep myself in a good mental
03:26state, mental zone
03:28and, uh, you know, just cruise through everything
03:30because I knew, I knew what was coming.
03:32I could feel it all along and I knew that
03:34it was going to be a long night for him
03:36or a quick night, however you want to put it.
03:38But, uh, thank God I came out with the dub.
03:41Uh, I was able to keep it moving,
03:42but one thing's for sure, uh,
03:45regardless of what people say
03:46and regardless of what people do in the fight,
03:49it's not like me to act out of character.
03:51It's not like me to push somebody after
03:53or, uh, take jabs at somebody after a fight.
03:57Uh, but it was just heat of the moment.
03:59You know, I was just, I was real emotional.
04:00I was carrying the weight of that all week
04:02and I was just pissed off.
04:04So
