You Will Never Guess How Fast Eagles Can Fly!

When talking about raptors, you can't leave out the largest group of them all: eagles. Meet Tonka the golden eagle, a truly epic aerial predator.

00:26the Golden Eagle is one of the most well-distributed eagles on our planet.

00:30They have telescopic vision that can spot prey from incredible distances.

00:36Their eyes take up a large space in their skull,

00:38and they have a set of clear islands called nictitating membranes,

00:42sort of like special flight goggles, only much cooler.

00:46These clear islands help protect the eyes, keeping it moist,

00:49and allowing Tonka to see when hunting.

00:51An eagle like Tonka can travel for miles just to find a bite to eat,

00:57but with that broad, rounded wingspan, Golden Eagles make it look easy.

01:02Soaring birds take advantage of thermals.

01:05When the sun warms the earth, warm air rises from the surface,

01:09and it is that column of rising air that they can use to travel

01:12for great distances in search of prey.

01:15Although, those beautiful wings are not just energy savers,

01:17they also allow Tonka to dive at speeds at close to 200 miles per hour.

01:32making the Golden Eagle a highly adaptable raptor.
