00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Hewson-Betz and this week marks the 80th
00:04anniversary of VE Day or Victory in Europe Day. It's one of Britain's proudest moments when the
00:09country triumphed against fascism, hatred, racism and murder to secure freedom for this country and
00:14indeed the Western world. Now as the nation prepares to remember the sacrifice of the many
00:18who gave their lives for our safety and lost their lives in the war, nine people in Greater
00:23Manchester have been arrested for celebrating the life of the man their ancestors fought so hard
00:28against. This comes after a far-right group celebrate the birthday of Adolf Hitler in an
00:32Alden pub. Pictures were posted by the group of a cake with swastika icing and members of the group
00:37adorning themselves with Nazi flags and boasting about reminiscing about the good times. Staff at
00:41the Duke of Edinburgh pub in Reuton claimed that the Nazi paraphernalia was hidden from them and
00:46that they were tricked into allowing the group to celebrate there and the group have now been
00:50arrested. Raids were conducted this week across different parts of Greater Manchester including
00:55Rochdale, Bolton, Trafford, Stockport and Southport with all nine being arrested on suspicion of
01:00breaching section 18 of the Public Order Act meaning that they displayed written material intended to
01:05stir up racial hatred. Now on top of this the raids also uncovered a cache of weapons including swords,
01:12a crossbow, imitation firearms and a suspected grenade which saw army bomb disposal experts dispatched
01:17to Bolton where they declared that the item was safe. Now as the country remembers the fallen and the
01:22heroic sacrifice of their parents and grandparents and grandparents' parents many will remember what
01:27it was that they were fighting for and against and the majority of the country will be hoping that
01:32it doesn't become necessary for people to sacrifice their lives on that scale again. Thank you very
01:37much for watching Manchester World, we'll see you again next week.
