Transcript
00:00Let's go live to the Vatican City now to witness the voiding results of the second
00:05day of the conclave. We see the results as what a black smoke came out of the
00:11chimney and that signals that the votation is not concluded so that means
00:21that a new pope that the cardinals will go to a new election to a new round of
00:30voting to black smoke bellowing out from the chimney means no cardinal reach a
00:39majority. There will be a second round of voting. Let's remember that yesterday the
00:46cardinal started the heavily ritualized process of choosing a new leader for the
00:51world's 1.4 billion Catholics on Wednesday. In the evening black smoke bellow from a
00:58specially installed chimney visible from St. Peter's Square to signal an
01:02inconclusive ballot. No pope in modern times has been elected on the first
01:08attempt so this outcome has been widely expected. Given recent history a final
01:16result is possible from the third day when four rows of voting can take place.
01:23Let's remember that out of a total of 252 cardinals only 133 can participate in the
01:33election. Of these 51 cardinals are of European origin. 37 from the Americas, 23 from Asia, 18 from Africa,
01:38and 4 from Oceania. The youngest is the Australian Micola Bishop. 45 year olds and the oldest is the Spaniard Carlos Osoros Sierra, 79 years old.
01:57For the first time 12 nations with native electors are present represented in the 16th chapel.
02:04The Haiti, Cape Verde, Papua Nueva Guinea, Sweden, Luxembourg and South Sudan.
02:13Let's remind you of some information about the previous conclaves. A record of 133 cardinals from 70 countries are involved in this secret ballot.
02:19up from 115 from 48 nations in the last conclave in 2013. This growth reflects efforts by the late Pope Francis to extend the reach of the church during his 12 year old tenure.
02:41Argentine born Francis who died last month was elected at the second day after five runs of voting. Eight years earlier it also took two days but only four votes to elevate Germany's Benedict XVI to the papacy.
02:57But it seems that this new conclave after the death of Pope Francis will take more than two days.
03:07And in spite of the expected results that people thought it would last two days.
03:16Let's take a look at the candidates. There are some clear favorites such as the...
03:27There are no clear favorites, sorry, although Italian Cardinal Pietro Parodin who served as the Vatican
03:37No. 2 under Francis and Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Otego are considered the front runners.
03:43If it becomes obvious that neither can obtain the necessary two-thirds majority, votes are expected to shift to other contenders.
03:53With the electors possibly coalescing around geography, doctrinal affinity or common language.
04:02Now let's take a more detailed approach to these candidates.
04:09The 70-year-old Italian Cardinal Pietro Parodin, one of the favorites of the public, as a candidate to replace Pope Francis, is a present diplomat and essential partner in the Catholic Church.
