Sunderland care home resident Kathy Davidson, 93, has looked back to VE Day 1945.

00:00Most things, what you used to have a lot was paste and pressed sandwich and your bread and jam.

00:10I did ask her once, could I have bread and jam?

00:15And she said, yes, because that was to be lovely.

00:19On a Friday, we had sprats.

00:22On another day, we used to go to the baker's and get a crusty loaf and have bread and jam,

00:30because you didn't have cup bread in those days.

00:34And then they'd have a little thing where you would go and sing on the stage, something like that.

00:43And they'd give you something.

00:45But we had marbles, we played.

00:48It was fun.

00:49Even though there was a wall going on there?

00:53Well, yeah, I think it's just, as long as you were cautious where you were, I mean, if you was out,

01:00if you was out, then you'd go in the shoulders outside.

01:05Because in those days, I'm not being rude, but you see, in those days, there was respect.

01:12People, you know, today, I don't know what I've seen, but I'm not saying they're all rude.
