00:00Do you know how the Chinese turned bamboo into paper?
00:03After harvesting, the outer layer of the bamboo is peeled off.
00:07The bamboo is then flattened, soaked in water, removed, and cut into short sections.
00:12These bundles are further soaked in a lime solution to remove impurities and help the
00:16bamboo fibers break down more easily.
00:19Next, the bamboo is thoroughly washed and boiled in large pots for several days until
00:24the fibers become completely soft.
00:27Once the bamboo reaches the desired softness, it is ground into a pulp using a traditional
00:31stone grinder.
00:33This bamboo pulp is then mixed with water and stirred to form a slurry.
00:37Skilled craftsmen use a special mold to gently scoop a thin layer of the slurry, creating
00:42the first sheet of wet paper.
00:44These sheets are then pressed to remove excess water and carefully placed on drying boards
00:48one by one.
00:50The final product is a type of paper with a smooth surface, high durability, and excellent
00:55ink absorption.
00:56Highly valued for calligraphy and traditional ink paintings.
