00:00Today, as you remember, VE Day 1945, I remember my mum and dad because they were there.
00:21My mum was with her mum and her first baby, celebrating, but also remembering those she'd lost in the war.
00:32And my dad was part of the group that went into Bergen-Belsen and was not celebrating victory.
00:40He was looking at what happens if we don't end evil in the world.
00:45So I remember the sacrifices that that generation made for us, for a better world, for a fairer world.
00:54And I also, with you across the board this year, celebrate the values that we still hold clear today.
01:03The equality of that generation, the determination to make change, the determination to bring kindness in the way that we live and work together.
01:14And all our celebrations today, in community, is a way of saying thank you, but paying forward and remembering every other of our men and women who have had to fight in wars since 1945.
